POISSONDAVRIL.pdf (186 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
This is all you need to print and play your own copy of the game.

You may never see an original and authentic copy of the game, but there is no reason not to enjoy playing it.

Included are all graphics and instructions, along with errata and a FAQ for newbies.

I scanned the copy I have in storage and enhanced the images (minimally) only where it was needed. I brightened some of the images and punched up the colors where they were a bit smoky. The card text and magical symbols are all perfectly readable.

Print in color (on nice paper,) mount on card stock using 3M (or equivalent) spray cement and cut along dotted lines. Make sure you use the permanent cement, as you don't want dog-eared bits later on. Lamination is also optional (preferred.)

You may mount the pawns and the bidding tokens on thicker card or even wood, but it is not strictly necessary. One of the gamers in my group mounted on very nice quality acrylic of different colors then laser cut following the shape, and gave the bits a lacquered finish. It is a very nice version, expensive but worth it. He says he will post photos in the Geek gallery later on.

The PDF downloads, but when I open it the PDF only contains the text:

FILE CORRUPT
PLEASE CLOSE THE FILE AND
OPEN AGAIN IN
FIVE MINUTES

in bold red....

Make sure you update to the latest version of Adobe Professional File Reader before attempting to open the file. It should be the Adobe PFR 2011 version at the very least.

I have Adobe Reader 9.1 installed and the file will not open for me either. Considering I've never had a problem with any other .pdf on the site, is it possible you can update with a different version?

THANKS!!!
I have Adobe 9 Pro (at work) and came in on the weekend so I could print it out on the office color printer. It is going to take a LOOONG time to cut out all those cards and tokens. I think I am going to glue the bidding tokens on some poker chips I have that are the right size.

If anyone has suggestions for how/whether to cut the magic swords and chests to shape or just go with the general rhombus orientation I would appreciate it.

I think you need an Adobe Reader compatible with the European version of Adobe. I have found that the Finnish one seems to work best/fastest so download Adobe Reader from a Finnish site. You'll probably have to get the font trascriber upgrade though.

How is it that this game persistently escapes the seemingly mandatory discussion of copywright infringement that accompanies the merest mention of component fabrication for other rarities such as "Eats, Chutes and Leaves", "Fish on a Bicycle" and "Who Needs Talcum Powder"?

In any case, no home made components could ever approximate the sensorial pleasure imparted by the original high quality Euro components. The Chrome Plated Mountain Dwarf Wizard in my original copy is a thing of ethereal beauty. "Go" players' love of their river washed pebbles have nothing on a Poisson d'Avril player who has experienced this game's exquisite tactile bliss.

Really, loosen up your wallet and spring for the real article, worth every penny!

Wow. Nice job putting this together!

I think I'll do what Rob did and cut the magic swords and chests to shape.

If you're having trouble with the pdf, keep trying! I don't know what it is with this one, but it finally worked for me on the twentieth download or so.

Come on! You must be joking!

How on earth am I supposed to print out the line-of-sight ruler? Do you have a more printer-friendly version of the file, perhaps with the ruler split up on the appropriate number of pages instead of one metres-long one?

Also, I think the type on the cryptozoology / hidden card managment chart is far too small.

Lots of people would if it was anywhere to be found. Do you have a copy? Is it for sale?

Edit: Ah, it seems you do. Is that why you want everyone to open up their purse strings?

tuskel,

I heard rumor of a FLGS (Finnish Local Game Store) that had a few copies of a semi-pirated Finnish version of the game. The name of the store was something like "Sitä Hanhivilli", and I'm pretty sure the game was called Aprillipäivä.

With the components from that, and a photo-copy of the rules in English, you'd be good to go!

Well there's your problem! The PDFs mentioned are specifically formatted for the old Commodore-64 systems... just because there's a "64" in your system, don't expect the files to work for you! But you must know some computer geek that has an old Commodore 64, and will download the files for you.

OK... I get it. however.

I do know someone with a Commodore 64, I still have a Radio Shack CoCo running Flex aka Unix, and my sister-in-law has a Vectrex system, one of the coolest game systems ever made. We had vector-based computer terminal screens at work that cost thousands, a $200 buck vector game system in 1984, priceless.
