Monsters Versus v10.pdf (1.21 MB) (Log in or Register to download.)
A friend recently brought out Monsters Menace America as a light end to an evening. Opening up the box, he pulled out the rulebook, a play summary sheet, two printed variants, and about 15 pages of forum posts with the "good bits" highlighted. This seemed, at best, silly.

So now, courtesy of your friend at NovaRules, I present Monsters Versus America. It's one rulebook that contains the "good bits" from variants and fan analysis, nicely organized and codified. This replaces your original rulebook and contains all instructions needed for play.

Designed to be printed double-sided, then bound along the left edge.

We tried this variant yesterday, and I'm sorry to say that I'm underwhelmed. The ideas sound good on paper, but the game takes significantly longer because the combination of the military being able to attack first and the "mature encounter" rule led to very few stompings as the monsters were constantly interrupted or even destroyed, and all 3 of us spent much time in Hollywood. From which it is almost impossible to recover (you come out with an average of 7 or 8 HP, and then 2 or 3 players have the opportunity to attack you in your lair and/or on the site you want to stomp on your next turn before you can gain more HP to survive longer.

I think this game should be a "fast and furious" kind of experience, and the two abovementioned factors detract from that.
