reaction-move-final-v3.0.doc (53 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
FINAL VERSION. Download this one, and not the two listed below.
I believe this to be the final draft of the Reaction Move. I've playtested this quite a few times and it really seems to be smooth and feel like its part of the regular game. It clearly does not dominate play, but certainly makes you plan your moves a bit more carefully in terms of the order in which you do things.
The format of this also looks better than prior versions. I tried to use colors consistent with the regular rules, and I cleaned up the wording in a number of places. Enjoy!
(...and of course, as luck would have it, there was one little error. Please change the single reference to an "AP" about midway down the document so that it instead says "CP."
I don't think this one little bit of proofreading folly is worth a new upload.)

OLD VERSION
This is a revision of the Version 1 posted below. Consider this Version 2, because it has some significant differences. Please see forum thread related to this optional rule for evolution. We think it is the better one, but you may playtest either version. This version is much more in line with the 'simplicity' of the game
Also, you will need to add three bits to this, which I will repair in the official revision after playtesting over the next month. These are:
[17.6.2] add "Disordered units may not attempt a Reaction Movement."
[17.6.3.2] add "Disordered units, though ineligible to Reaction Move, will not 'break the chain.'"
[17.6.5] add "6. Disordered units are not eligible to Reaction Move."

OLDEST VERSION
Here is a rule I created to add a small layer of complexity with cavalry, allowing them to React to nearby activity and cease an opponents movement.
This is version 1 of the file, a little more complicated than the newer Version 2.
