Possible Errata:

Page 2 > Set-Up > Generate a random map > a. > Note:

Note: Advanced players may wish to remove the fixed distribution of terrain types in order to increase variety in the random-map variant. To do this, simply draw the same number of tiles as you normally would (16, 27, 36, 45, or 52) from a larger pool of mixed terrain tiles. The larger the pool of tiles, the greater the possible discrepancy in terrain-type distribution.

The bold text should read: (20, 27, 36, 45, or 52).

FYI.

Nice job to everyone contributing to this effort!
Phil

I'm still using some early draft tiles - they're a bit smaller than the final ones. I'll probably make up a new set on glossy paper and thicker cardstock after the weekend.

In the meantime, this is a good indication of how the tiles look in action:

Thanks very much!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned about making the tiles.
You can buy self adhesive floor tiles from many dollar stores. They are very thin and you can just stick the print outs on them and use scissors to cut them out.
I have done this with many games its fast and the tiles are very sturdy.

best of luck,
Darrell

Tried this on the weekend and I'm very happy with the results. Works great for the single sided tiles and chits. Any suggestions for the double sided race/ability cards and tokens?

Going to try some double sided tape. My only worry is that the non-sticky side is too smooth to have the tape stick effectively.

I don't own this, yet, but will soon, and I had made my mind up after learning it that I wanted it, and that random tiles would have been very nice but that it was sort of oddly refreshing in a reverse way, that I was playing a board game with an actual BOARD and not the hexes. Then there was the doubt, did DoW miss it by not including this game as a Hex based random experience? I shunned the thought and decided to move on, then I heard, at the table about this, and have come here, and seen the work, and NOW I have to admit, I will own this and have it ready for my game BEFORE I get the game! Fantastic! Even though I am not the art type (I'm a writer) this WILL be done by me, I cannot wait. (this from the guy who took a YEAR to assemble his first set of Agricola tuck boxes, after they were printed and CUT out.. blush ) Anyway, thanks for this it is a very worth while addition to what I think is a wonderful implementation of good gaming!

I have re formatted the tiles with the random edges and included water falls as I've been asked by a few people. PM me if you'd prefer them rather than the solid edges included in the pdf.

Try this:

1) first use self adhesive floor tiles as the backing (FYI this trick has been around since the before the 70s
2) use clear wall paper (with self adhesive) to cover the front of the paper

this will make for a more durable finish. If you want print on cardstock paper and you'll end up with an even thicker finish. Use safety (EMT/Paramedic) scissors to cut them out.

I love this add on. I'm making 2 copies, one for each of the kids, They're attending different schoools on opposite sides of the world.

Edit: to keep the layed out hexes in place I got four 10.5" X 10.5" plexiglass pieces cut. These plexiglass pieces fit in the box and the deployed hexes don't move.

Edit:
Just looked and the wallpaper is called Clear Self-Adhesive Vinyl. I found it in the wallpaper section of Home Depot. I've also seen it in the homeware section of Walmart.

I have been to Lowe's, Home Depot, and 2 wallpaper stores. None have heard of self-adhesive clear wallpaper. Would contact paper do as well--is it as clear?

do the self-adhesive floor tiles ever come in the hexes, or only the 12x12 squares?

Many of the craft stores carry self adhesive craft foam. You can get it in 9"*12" sheets.

We've just completed ours, printed on cardstock and glued to posterboard. Took a while to cut out, maybe an hour. I think we may want to reglue some where it's peeling a bit. We used gluestick-- maybe this wasn't the best choice.

All in all, it looks pretty nice. We're setting it up now.

Errata?

Page 2 > Set-Up > Generate a random map > d.Place water tiles around the map to create coastal areas:

• 6 players: 3 coastal areas from 12 tiles.

should be 2 coastal areas from 12 tiles?

I think this map is created for 6 players
There are only 2 coastal areas

By the way
In that map, the 2 coastal areas from 10 tiles
Why not 12 tiles?
