Hi Bill, thanks for doing this!

Just a small suggestion... instead of a zip with both, keep it simple and upload each individually in this same file section... that allows folks to grab just the one they want (I'm guessing most just the pdf) without having to download/unzip/extract.

Jeff

ps: any chance you could also add under the copyrights that this image may be freely printed for personal use or something like that? I've had problems at a Staples before (a fan AoS user created map but they had the copyrights).

Seconded. My Staples will not print something with (C) on it, unless it has a release on it.

In v2 I've added the note 'Permission granted to reproduce for personal use.' I hope that this makes Staples happy. I've also smoothed out the kink in the river.

Can you guys help me get my printing right? I want to have Staples do the 17x22 maps, but I've never done it before, and I don't want to throw my money away. Plus, I'm impatient enough I really want to order them now and pick them up after work, rather than going to Staples and asking them. What options are best?

I've got it set to 18x24 photo paper - without scaling files to fit paper. Other options include laminate or mounting. Are either of those worth it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

I'm sorry, I don't have any experience printing at Staples. I take files down to my local print-shop where it costs S$16 (about US $12) to print A2-sized posters. They print them on some sort of poster paper, which is a little heavier than regular paper, but not nearly so heavy as cardstock. I then fold or roll the maps for storage. They are not indestructible, but I play with a sheet of plexiglass over them.

I'm not sure that I would want the maps laminated: depending on the thickness of the laminate, this will make them impossible to fold/roll up. If you intend to mount them and produce a folding board, there are several threads in the DIY forum (see, for instance this one), but this is a lot of work/expense for materials. JC Lawrence has stated several times (see here for example) that OfficeMax will print, laminate, and mount to foamcore for about $30, which sounds better/cheaper than what Staples will do for you.

fwiw I just printed the 17x22 pdf's out today on my color laser (samsung clp-510) on 110 pound card stock... using "poster" print 2x2 (4 sheets of 8.5x11), cut and tape. not as nice as real 17x22 poster but much more affordable for me.

That worked beautifully! I had no idea you could print "poster style" like that! Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it! Have some !
