TTR_Sodor_MadHattersNeverland.jpg (2.86 MB) (Log in or Register to download.)
The other day, someone commented on one of my images that there should be a TTR for the Island of Sodor. I of course had to draw it. This is based on the Sodor maps found in the various Thomas the Tank Engine stories. (Destination cards to come soon.)

How does this print out? As in sheets of A4??? Is it the same size as the other boards?

My computer shows the image size as 20.25 in x 16.25 in., which works out to 4 letter size (8.5" x 11") sheets in the US.

Unfortunately, we ran across a problem printing the map at the original size. It fits nicely on 4 sheets of paper, but we discovered that at that size the TTR train cars are too big for the track spaces. It looks like an approximately 75% size increase would be necessary to have the spaces be the right size. Unfortunately, that would require going to an enormous 4x4 page layout. We compromised by enlarging 50%, which allowed us to just squeeze into a 3x3 page layout with a bit of cropping (approx. 30" x 24"), and have spaces that mostly fit the train cars. (Our final size is just a little bigger than the original TTR board, btw.)

I think the print shop route might have been the better option, as we're still not finished with the trimming & taping, although it's been useful as an art project to keep my son & I busy...

Unfortunately taking it to a printer is not an option - the nearest one is hours away.

I've managed to get it onto 4 A4 pages (2x2). Now I've just got to work out whether to mount it or laminate it or what. Hopefully the size will be right for the trains. Haven't printed yet. Might just try to work out measurements of trains first.

This has been very helpful.
