Very good job! Our group uses only this updated version of the rules 'cause it makes things much clearer. Are there plans to also streamline the solitaire and the two player version?
I did update the Solitaire/2P and Advanced rules as well, but a) thought it would be good to start simple b) ran out of steam. I got pretty burned out on this edit and needed to take a break.
The next update I'll add those to the file as well.
No, Jordi, wars were the single most confusing part of the game for me as well on my first read. The lack of the armaments icon in the rules almost had me stop dead on learning the game right there - how is one to know what it looks like!?
I tried to clean up the language, but in the end it's just a very messy and complex mechanic (I'm talking about what to do with wars once one is drawn from the Form deck). The best that could be done was to include some examples, which the VG team did - the only way those can be elaborated on is including pictures, which I considered, but would have been horribly time-consuming.
In the end you just have to burn some brain cells. The whole process should really have been streamlined in v3 imho...

I asked that the armament icon be added though I am not sure if it is going into the living rules. However, there is an example of a concession card on page 7, which just so happens to be the Armament card, and just so happens to be on the same page as the Wars section!
Though finally comfortable enough with the game to manage with the rulebook as written, I'm definitely printing out at least one copy of this to stuff in the box as the 'pass-around' book for newer players. Very good work, thanks!
I have noticed one mistake in your otherwise awesome effort: in the War section (of course) you keep mentioning how the the commander will lose Influence depending on the number of legions lost. Then you refer to the Losses section on page 46. In that section you correctly state that a commander loses Popularity depending on legion losses.
I don't think there is any way for a War to cause Influence losses, correct?

you're correct, only POP loss when losing a land battle.
Thanks Jason. I just downloaded your rulebook file. My friend owns this game and eventually it will make it to the game table. It's nice to be able read the rules ahead of time without having to borrow my friend's copy, and when we play it'll be nice to have several copies available for consultation.
WOW! Great work. I've owned this game for quite some time...collecting dust. Just too painful to struggle through the rules. I've long since forgotten / repressed this experience.
Well, now this game might just have to be played. How novel
Any chance you will be picking this up again with corrections, solitaire/2P and advanced rules?
If not, is there any problem if other folks start adding edits?
I doubt I'll have time in the near future to do so, so please help yourself (and the community!).
I did have the skeleton of the solitaire/2P/advanced rules so I could pass those along if you like. The biggest reason I didn't publish them is that they add confusion for new players and the intent here was to make the game more accessible. They do still need some work.
I would suggest a separate publication of the complete ruleset if you want to make it comprehensive for the hardcores.

Sure I would like to see your skeleton for Advanced/2P/Solitaire, though admitedly I am not planning to immediately tackle that. I will GeekMail you with an email address to send the material to.
My immediate goal is to deal with the minor issues I have found. A couple others:
4. after trials, the corruption markers only come off the Senators IN ROME
5. if a rebel defeats Rome, he needs to prosecute wars until there are less than 4 active ones -- I want to clarify this, since the way it looks now, it speaks of only prosecuting the "first" war in a couple of places
BTW thanks again for all the work you put into this.
