Essential Railroad Tycoon Rule Modifications (ver 1.1).doc (112 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
After going out of print, Railroad Tycoon was re-implemented as Railways of the World, which changed some of the rules for better gameplay (these improvements were first introduced in the Rails of Europe expansion). It is highly recommended to adopt these rule modifications for an improved game. This player aid gives you all the information you need to play Railroad Tycoon with the benefit of the small improvements implemented in the revised edition.
For discussion on these rule modifications, see this thread. For a comprehensive comparison between RRT & RotW, see this overview.

Note: This printable document has been revised and now also includes a Player Reference for turn sequence, player actions, building costs, and major lines!

We have played with these modifications for a while and it has worked great. One more thing we add is another possible connection in the water between New York and New Haven, so there are four connections to New York.

That is another change made in Railways of the World, correct. A similar change can be made to add a connection out of New Orleans towards Mobile. Discussion on it in this thread. I've revised the file to include mention of these two additional hexes.

The document only lists the easy and the essential changes to make - for a comprehensive comparison between Railroad Tycoon and Railways of the World, see my article:

So you're wondering about the new reimplementation of Railroad Tycoon, and how it compares with the original: A Pictorial Overview
