My buddy the Bully Bear bought this game and I loved everything about the design, bits and cards. The problem was getting the game to END! This scoring system doesn't change 1 rule of how the game is played, you just play it normally scoring points as you go. You can possibly even win it the normal way but after 2 loooooooooong, long plays I seriously doubt it. We played 4 hours the 1st game and 5 hours the 2nd with no real winner in sight. The problem is 1) Allying to stop the leader 2) Turtling in Castles building HUGE forces to counter the other guys HUGE forces. Hopefully this system will instill ATTACKING by Warlord-led armies for fame, glory and VP's.
Some already asked questions on the system:
Q1) When you exchange Warlords both players get -5 points?
A1) Yes. Players are encouraged to RANSOM the Warlord for as much cash as they can get and +5 VP immediately.
Q2) When you ransom a Warlord to a player YOU get the 5VP?
A2) Yes. The Warlords owner must give you at least 5 gold but you are encouraged to extort as much as possible. Due to Kingmaking possibilities I would not allow Ransoms on the final turn so a player can't get 10 easy VP's for having the most Gold.
Q3) Only an ATTACKING Army with a Warlord gets credit for a victory?
A3) Yes. Players are not encouraged to sit in their Castles building large armies. You sit there and an opponent can get a lot of wins taking your lightly defended Fief's.
Q4) What if no one has ANY gold at the end of the game, does everyone still get the 10 VP's?
A4) No. Only players WITH GOLD can get these VP's.
Q5) Can I still win before the agreed-upon turn?
A6) Yes (but I highly doubt it). ALL normal rules are still in play and winning by the printed rules supercedes this system.
