Pocket_Battles-Reconquista_1_0.pdf (2.55 MB) (Solve captcha above to download.)
Pocket Battles in the Middle Ages.

I'll second that request. They look great, but I don't speak Spanish. Any chance of an English version of these, or at least for the textual parts explaining things?

JoseMari Makentrix
Spain

Hi, all. I'm the designer of "Pocket Battles: Reconquista" (Makentrix). I've seen that some people are interested in an English version of this redesign, ok, I'm going to summarize the contents of the 'pdf' file:

This game uses the SAME rules as "Pocket Battles: Celts vs Romans" (except for the Campaign mode).

First of all, I have to say that this redesign is set on the Middle Ages, when Spain was divided on two parts, Christians on the North side and Muslims on the South side.

The first page is the cover.

The second page is only a historical introduction of the battle "Las Navas de Tolosa", it took place on Jaén (Andalusia). It was the central point of the "Reconquista", where Christians pushed back Muslims southwards. Some historical facts could be found on Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Las_Navas_de_Tolosa). I have taken the units of this battle for my redesign.

What we found on the third page is the division of both sides: Christians were divided on several Kingdoms: Castille, Aragon, Navarre, Portugal, France (some French Crusaders), ... and some Religious orders: Santiago, Temple, Saint John, ...
Muslims, on the other hand, were divided in Almohads, Berbers, Moors, Turkish, ...

In the fourth page, we can find two tables indicating the units of both sides, with their stats, some translations:

Caballería Pesada (Heavy Cavalry)
Caballería Media (Medium Cavalry)
Caballería Ligera (Light Cavalry)
Soldados a Pie (Knights on foot. Heavy Infantry)
Infantería Media (Medium Infantry)
Milicia (Militia. Light Infantry)
Ballesteros (Crossbowmen)
Arqueros (Archers)
Catapulta (Catapult)
Rey (King)
Pendones Reales (Royal Standards)

Arqueros a caballo (Turkish archers on horse)
Trabuco (Trebuchet)
Guardia Negra (Black Guard. Heavy Infantry)
Califa (Caliph)
Visir (Vizier)
Tambores y trompetas (Drums and Trumpets)

Order "Flank": Put an order on the Caliph, in the same turn, he (using another order) can send a unit (not slow, and being on the front right or the front left sides) to flank and to charge to the corresponding back part of the enemy. If there is no enemy on the back part, it could charge on the back central part.

Pages 5 to 8: the cards with their backs.

Pages 9 and 10: Campaign mode for this redesign. (I'll explain these rules some other day).

Page 11: Campaign map for "Pocket Battles: Celts vs Romans" (with the same rules as Reconquista Campaign mode).

Sorry for my bad English modest. I hope it'll be useful.

JoseMari,

Thanks! Your English is far, far ahead of my non-existent Spanish -- I might be able to count to ten, thanks to Sesame Street those many years ago , but that's about it.

I'll give it a try when I get the chance.

Jonathan
