Egizia FAQ and Clarifications.pdf (99 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
After teaching this game 8 hours a day for 4 days in a row I managed to gather quite the collection of questions, misconceptions, and common errors when playing this game. In the course of handling those questions I've also poured over the rulebook more than is healthy for any one person. What I've assembled here are general notes about the game and common things that are often misplayed, misinterpreted, or simply missed. There are a handful of issues where I feel like I was taking creative license on how to interpret something that wasn't exactly clear, and I've highlighted these in the interest of full disclosure.

The rules nowhere require the first boat placed at a building site to use the space closest to the Nile. Players can control their build order by putting the boat last, for instance, to be able to build last at a site.

I believe your description for Step 7, turn order is backwards. If Red has the most points, red goes last, not first. If Yellow reached 7 last, Yellow goes first, not last. At least, that is what the rules say. IF they are wrong and have been subsequently corrected, I do not know.

Yeah, you are correct, that's what I meant but I typed it up wrong (obviously) Good Catch. I even re-read what I had written and still thought I had it right, I had to re-read it 2 or 3 times shake

I have a few more updates based on rules discussions in the threads, I will include this fix as well.

After talking to different people and reading more forums, I want to clarify, reading this fact and knowing every single line in it is not at all necessary to play and enjoy this game. There are just a lot of specific situations that are a little unclear, and this FAQ is meant to be a reference for those should they come up, rather then required reading before playing the game.

Thanks for preparing this Adam. I found the rules to be hard to follow, with odd gaps and plain errors. Your FAQ helps a lot.

One suggestion, you might want to globally change the term "prospecting" to "speculating" and "task master" to "joker" for the sake of consistency with the rules.

Cheers!

has anyone else come across the misuse of the word 'column' in the rules? clearly the columns in the temple look like columns but the rules use the word 'column' when they should have used 'wall' or 'side' instead. the PDFs above use 'side' which cleared up the controversy one player in our group had but just wanted to put it out there in case there were other opinions.

This FAQ is a real life saver, because the rules for this game are somewhat dreadful in places.

After our first play we were rather puzzled about several things in the rulebook, or things we couldn't find mentioned. Reading this document helped us realize that a big part of our confusion was a result of errors and omissions in the English rulebook. Great work in making this file!

I've been trawling the threads in the BGG forums with rule questions, and see that much of what is contained here originates in clarifications directly from the designer. Excellent job, thank you!
