Defenders of the Realm Forging of Heroes VariantV2.0.pdf (1.40 MB) (Solve captcha above to download.)
This is an updated version of the Forging of Heroes Variant that adds a 5th Level to the Heroes. This variant starts the game early in the war prior to the advancement of the 4 Generals onto the board, and the seasoning of the Heroes that must stop them. The game is played somewhat different both in set up of the game and the abilities of each Hero at the start of the game. This variant does add some extra time to play, but creates some new and interesting challenges for the players. All tokens (including the new 5th Level Tokens) and rules needed to play this variant are in the attached file.

I really enjoy this variant. This really should have been part of the official game.

For me, the one major flaw in this game was that the characters don't develop. The board environment does but the Heroes don't which caused the game to feel flat to me. This corrected it.

In solitaire, it plays amazingly well. When played with the Winds of War cards and the Minor Hero variants its like an MMORPG board game. One time I started playing and a friend came over, joined and then left shortly after and the gaming experience did not change one bit. Amazingly balance and well thought out.

Thank you.

I really enjoy this variant.
Though some of the things makes the game a bit harder, so i thought of something to maybe balance it out a little:

Bread and Water:
Each hero starts with 1 of each (yellow and blue token).

How are they used?:
When in combat, if the hero rolls a double of (char level, or below), the hero may use 1x water or 1x bread.
So if a hero is level 2, the hero must roll a double 1 or double 2, to use it.

What do they do?
The Water refreshes 1 action point
The Bread heals 1 wound.

How do the hero get the supplies?
Spend 1 action in Monarch City or Listen to rumors at the Inn, to get back up to 1x water and 1x bread.
