RESIDENT EVIL DBG LOST IN NIGHTMARE MOD.rtf (13 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
Modified variant of the story mode. My personal opinion is that this is closer to the style of the original Resident evil games everyone is familiar with. This includes searching individual rooms, searching for key items to explore more of the mansion and still has the element of surprise.

Can you release this as a PDF? Your formatting is not coming through cleanly, probably because you're using a font that isn't standard.

Carl,

Thanks for taking a look. Unfortunately, I do not have Adobe, or even Microsoft word on my home pc. I had to write it up in the only program I had available which was word pad. Try opening it up with that, it should come out o.k. I will see if maybe I can take it to work and transfer it but I cant guarantee anything.
Thanks again and hope you like it.

Get CutePDF -- it's free and creates a virtual printer you can use to "print" to a PDF. Once installed, start Wordpad, and open your file. Go to print and select CutePDF as the printer. After a few seconds to a few minutes depending on how big your file is, you will get a dialog box asking you where to save the PDF.

Works from any program that can print.

Thanks for the info. I will give is a shot once I get home from work and hopefully have it re-uploaded as a PDF sometime tonight or tomorrow. I don't know if you'd had a chance to actually look at it or anybody else has but if anyone has any recommendations before I do reupload it, I will include it in the updated version.

Carl,

CutePDF worked great and yes I did see how the format was a little out of whack. I corrected that and hopefully it looks ok once its uploaded. Thanks for your help and hope you enjoy as much as I did coming up with this idea.

After reading the rules, I really wished Bandai would've gone this route. This would've been a really nice change to the Deckbuilding genre, although using gold to buy cards doesn't make sense when you are literally roaming a mansion.

The problem with this variant though is it will be very, very, very painful to setup.

[q="bonix415"]What I did was, when I sleeved the cards, I bought different colored sleeves and made one color floor 1 one color floor 2 one color floor 3 and a last color all the starting deck cards, character cards and any other remaining cards. It doesn't really effect the normal game but when I play this version, it makes it much easier.

Have you tried this idea yet? I want to know how long it will take.

This is the only way I've played since coming up with the idea. Since all the cards are pre sorted, it's just a matter of taking which cards you need for each floor. Set up doesn't take as long as you might think. As for gameplay, I've played solo a few times and this variant does lengthen the game a little. I unfortunately don't really have anybody else to play the game with so I have not played multiplayer. If anyone has Amy imput please let me know.

Sounds interesting, however how do you use actions concerning ammo like Item Management?

That's a good question, thank you for asking. I tried to think of everything that could happen but I missed this one. I personally treated item management like jack krauser's ability, if you play the item management card you trash the ammo card from your hand, and replace it with the new ammo card worth 30 more gold from you current unused inventory or if none in your inventory then you can take one from your discard pile. This also goes for any other card/upgrade type of ability. If you do not have a such card in your inventory or discard pile, the card/ability can not be used. I would say you can search one of the room decks but that would ruin the surprise of the room, being able to see everything in that room.

My friend just got this game a couple days ago, and we've played it 3 times since then. We aren't super experienced with the regular game, but I would really like to try out this variant. I'll toss the idea out to them next time we play and see if my friends are up for trying this.

Ok I just played this variant with my friend, and here are my thoughts:

The game started out VERY slow, painfully slow, but after about 30 minutes, the game started to pick up. I think either starting with a higher amount of ammo, or putting more 30 ammos in floor 1 would help this a bit. My friend was really frustrated for these first 30 minutes because he was always short of money, and couldn't buy anything. He'd end up with about 30 or 40 gold every few hands, not enough to buy the 60 cold ammo packs, so he was stuck not buying anything for a while.

After we both had decent hands, we started clearing out rooms of enemies, which was fun. It definitely has a Resident Evil feel, going into rooms to find items or enemies.

I also thing the rocket launcher should be removed from the game, as I feel it's an unfair advantage to whoever gets it. Since Uroboros is visible at all times, whoever gets has the rocket launcher show up in his hand (and the top floor is unlocked), can insta-kill him. If you had to build up the 90 damage to take him on, it would be more fair.

Also, I think the Item Management cards should be axed from this mode. If you take the 3 of those out, and put 3 20+ ammos in there instead, it might work better.

Anyway, awesome idea for a variant, and I really enjoyed it, despite the slow start.

I think it took 2.5 hours for us to finish this mode, in a 2 player game.

Hi Kev,

I'm going to give this mode a try with my girlfriend it certainly looks like it will play better than the official Bandai scenarios.
Having only played it a few times so far my girlfriend an I both did'nt like the fact that you could meet some big nasties early on in the game and these would chew you up easily.
We started to modify the mansion deck taking out the bigger creatures but this meant the game whilst initially challanging became too easy once a tipping point had been reached.
Hopefully this floor idea of yours sounds like it could be the answer.

I had an additional idea to shuffle the "key" cards into a random 12 cards which are laid down first on each floor, so that the key card will be at the bottom of a room somewhere just so that the luck of the draw doesnt allow a key to be found to early.

Also your setup has 6 sharp shooter cards and there are only 5 in the game what would/do you use instead?

Also what do you think about Ryan's comments about taking out the rocket launcher and item managment and adding in more ammo 30, on floor 1? Would you agree or keep it as is?

thanks

kev (also my name btw)

hi Kevin,

In the FAQ, the ability of Jack is TAKE.
Does it mean Search it then Shuffle?

To those of you that downloaded this and gave me rep, thank you. This was my first mod upload and it's good to see that everyone is enjoying it.
To answer some or your questions, as for the rocket launcher, I agree, take that out and throw in an an addition ammo. That seems to even the game out a bit.
As for jack, yes his take ability would be to pick than reshuffle.
Kevin, I haven't checked my deck in months but if there is only 5 that might have been a typo. I reconfirm and correct that. Thanks for the heads up.
