Nexus Ops.doc (26 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
A while ago drpetrov and marhawkman began a thread regarding optional faction pwers for the different Nexus Ops colors/teams. I liked the ideas that were thrown around and wanted to add a few of my own. Moreover, since there was no file found here on the Geek, I decided I'd create one. It's simple--if anyone would like to spiffify this with faction symbols and nice graphics, they are welcome to do so.

A word regarding my thought process: I wanted each faction to have its own unique flavor, so I tried not to create powers that duplicated other teams' abilities. This made it difficult to keep faction powers balanced, but I think/hope I did a good job. All the same, let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement.

Good job - a nice addition. And you've done well in keeping each faction with a different theme. I think the Black Helix move 2 hexes and explore both is too strong, and personally I will use it that they have to stop in enexplored territory if they want to explore, but otherwise keep the 2 movement.

Excellent work Justin

Thanks for the support!

I wondered whether the Black Helix exploration power was too much, but my thought was that this would only make them strong in the pre-game (when everyone is going for territory). Likewise, in a multiplayer game, there wouldn't be as much territory to explore so this power would be less valuable. And in a two-player game, you would still need a lot of rubium when you start exploring in order to take advantage of your humans' rapid mobility and exploration. But, since you'd only get a maximum of 11 rubium (if you went second), that wouldn't really mean much (still only 5 spaces explored).

...although now that I think about it, 5 spaces is still a lot (other players will only be able to do a maximum of 3 on their turn) so perhaps that's enough of a bonus. Not to mention, if your first three humans explore in a bee line towards the enemy's base (instead of spreading out in a wall like most players normally do), then by moving for free through your controlled spaces you would theoretically be able to end your turn in front of your enemies home spaces (or even INSIDE their home base). Scary stuff.

Alright. I think I'll take that part out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ok. Just uploaded version 1.1 (well, once it's approved it will be up there). There are some logos for the companies now (nothing too fancy, but added more flavor) and I modded the Black Helix power to be more balanced.

Just wondering...but would it make more sense to swap the Black Helix and Zyborg powers? Helix is more of a genetics thing...and Zyborg could justify the same abilities described in the Black Helix section by using cyber augmentation (instead of drugs).

I was trying to stick to what had originally been posted in one of the variants forums, but this has been nagging at me. I may swap them out eventually (just to assauge my own doubts if nothing else).

Haha. You caught me. In another hundred years, they'll be widespread enough to mine rubium on alien landscapes and they'll make the logo red. And a few centuries after that, they'll change their symbol to this...
