PandemicSolo-2.7.1-release.zip (3.62 MB) (Log in or Register to download.)
This application helps you play Pandemic as a solitaire game "offline". You have to coordinate all of the roles on your own with EXACTLY the same rules and game-phases as you would play the game with other players. To start the application, you only have to extract the zip file to any folder, then double-click on PandemicSolo.jar. Good Luck!

v2.7.1 : Bug Fix release. See comment below and README.txt.

I can probably help, but could you be more explicit ?
What system are you using (Windows, Mac...), what did you try, did you get any message ?

Hi Emmanuel,

When I run this I get the following error message:

Java Virtual Machine Loader

Could not find the main class: PandemicSolo. Program will exit.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and have Java Version 1.6.0_24 from Sun Microsystems Inc.

Pandemic Solo v2.5 runs fine.

Kind regards,

Julian

Hello Julian,

Have you tried double-clicking on PandemicSolo.bat ?

EDIT: Actually, I think it's more complicated than that. I'm working at a solution. I'll let you know.

IMPORTANT

The above file is a new version (numbered 2.6.1) which attempts (and I hope succeeds) to correct the problem with the ".jar" file packaging. In plain English, it means that once you've unzipped the file, you should be able to double-click on "PandemicSolo.jar" and play the game immediately. (Please delete all files from former versions in the folder where you install this new one.)

I apologize for the preceding version (I learnt here that I should test my programs in "white room" conditions, ie in a separate folder than the one where I developed the code), and for the delay in releasing a bug fix : it took me a long time to find the (hopefully) correct solution, and the file submission process at BGG also takes a long time (almost a week from upload to admin validation)...

I'll be glad to hear your reports about this new version.

Emmanuel

Two issues, one with 2.5 and the other with 2.6.1

In 2.6.1 I started a game with two 'players', and had four hands of two cards dealt out.

In 2.5 I started a game, got an epidemic in the first draw. Hit the 'bottom' button, then the 'reshuffle' button. In the infector turn I drew an infect card and it was NOT the same city as the epidemic draw.

If my understanding of the rules is correct, with only one infection card drawn from the bottom then placed back on top, the first infection draw must be the same city again, right?

You said that this was the first epidemic card drawn, right? So it wouldn't be just the one card shuffled and put back on top; you'd be shuffling the newly drawn card plus all of the disease cards that "seeded" the board.

Does that help or is there more information to relate?

Thanks for the feedback.

I intend to release a 2.7 as soon as possible, that will correct this bug (among other things). Hopefully before the end of this month.

I think it goes without saying, but in the meantime you can simply drag and drop the dealt cards from the missing players' boxes to the real players' ones to create the correct starting situation (2 hands of 4 cards).

Works pretty good so far, good job! I have only one bug/incomplete feature to report: the game cannot currently implement the troubleshooter's ability to peek at the upcoming infections based on the current infection rate. Sure you have 'Forecast' there but it's obviously too powerful. A perhaps simple solution would be to have buttons labeled "Peek 2", "Peek 3" and "Peek 4" somewhere around the DiscardPile/Forecast buttons.

never mind -- I found it. clicking on the troubleshooter's little red pawn next to his name does the trick.

VERSION 2.7 RELEASE

People,

I'm excited to present you the new release, numbered 2.7, of this Java application. As promised a long time ago, I've worked during the last few months to add interesting features to this implementation. Here's the list :

New features :
- single dialog box for game configuration
- saving and loading games
- a menu bar
- an About box, featuring the details of the current game configuration
- start of a new game without closing and re-starting the app
- the counters not used for the current game configuration are not shown
Bug fixes :
- Clicking Cancel during game configuration doesn't throw a NullPointerException anymore
- Player cards distribution is now correct (2 players : 4 cards each, 3p : 3 cards, 4p : 2 cards)

As always, I welcome all feedback (bug reports, feature requests, GeekGold whistle...).

I hope you'll have a great time with this release !

Very cool, manur; I like this.

I regret to have to submit a bug report: playing on 4-player legendary mutation with all roles and special events, I drew an epidemic card when it should not have been possible to do so.

On this difficulty, the game begins with 58 cards in the player deck. I drew three epidemic cards within cards 58-41; there should, however, be only two epidemics in that range.

Here are a couple of screenshots to substantiate this report:

Note that I've migrated to v2.7 straight from v2.5, and I never encountered this bug in v2.5 after 50+ games. So I find myself wondering if you've modified the epidemic-timing code at all.

Thanks for continuing jancsoo's work on this app, and thanks in advance for your attention to this bug.

Edit: clarified difficulty setting.

Second bug report:

When I go to save a game, the default location is My Documents, but the game doesn't show me any folders under that one. (Ironically, the game is in a sub-subfolder of My Documents.)

Let me know if you need a screenshot of this.

Great idea!
Unfortunately did not work for me
I tried on my Macbook (Mac OS X 10.5.8) and it gave the following error
Quote:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file
at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method)

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:252)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(ClassLoader.java:375)

I tried all three methods of opening it.
I checked: the lib files are all there.
Version 2.5 is not working either.

Rike,
I'm pretty sure your Java Virtual Machine (JVM), also called Java Runtime Environment (JRE), is not up to date, ie still in version 5 (aka 1.5).
You need a version 6 JRE to run this app (and more generally 6 has been there for a while, you should probably upgrade).

How to check : open a Terminal and type "java -version". If you see "java version "1.5.x.x"", I'm right. Proceed. (Else, stop here and copy the result for me.)

How to upgrade : I found this page, but you'll certainly find more with google.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot - I had checked before that I did have Java SE 6, but knowing from your comment that the problem was likely connected to the Java version helped nevertheless: I changed the preferred order in the Java Settings such that Java SE 6 is now the first choice. That helped.
Now I'll try to play

Indeed. There are at least two workarounds for now :
- If you know the name of the subfolder, type it and press Return. You are in the subfolder now.
- At the bottom of the dialog, change the selected item in the File Format selection list to "All files". It will show you the directories (and unrelated files you'll need to mentally ignore).

Hello! I'm very interested in using this solo Pandemic gulp program, but I can't get it to work. cry
I'm using windows 7.
I've downloaded the newest Java version 6 update 27.
When I try to start the PandemicSolo batch file, it seems to start a smaller DOS appearing screen but immediately closes.
And a warning doesn't appear.

I'm not familiar with Java. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?shake
Thanks!

VERSION 2.7.1 RELEASE

Friends,

I've just released the 2.7.1 version of Pandemic Solitaire. It's essentially a bug fix version.

- the Containment Specialist's pawn is now beige (not grey like the Generalist)
- rigorous distribution of epidemics cards at setup, following more closely the rulebook
- subfolders of the current folder now shown in the Load/Save selection window

As always, I welcome all feedback (bug reports...), and especially feature requests !

Enjoy the game.
