Perhaps a more helpful aid than what is included.

The buying cost explains the disparity between trading a card and buying that card: the 'penalty' increases as you go up the levels.

Buying is not as restrictive as your aid makes it. Any two or more cards with a total point value equal to or greater than the value of the card being bought can be used. So three Bi's can be used to buy a Tri. Costly, but it can be done.

Edit: On second glance, it seems your aid is just showing the minimum necessary to buy.

1. Hehe, you are the omnipresent guardian of all things Monad-related

2. You know, I never really gave much thought to over-spending for buying a card (as much as 3 bi's for a tri). Maybe that's why I can never come up with huge sequences when I play.

3. Yes, the chart should just be showing the value that is wasted by buying a card. Although knowing the amount wasted doesn't seem that useful.
