Age of Empires III - Scaling for 3 players.pdf (3.89 MB) (Log in or Register to download.)
So you voted, and must of you believe AoE3 is best with 4 players ? I concord! This is my Scaling for 3 players. I've tested it enough, that I'm pretty comfortable to release this. I just used some basic math, taking a reference of 4 players. Some Capital Building tiles and some Discovery cards are removed to enhance the chance of appearing of the remaining tiles/cards. The afore mentioned Discovery cards also match the 2 regions disabled. You can print and build some included tiles to indicate the disabled areas.

I prefer it with 6.

But if people agree it is best with 3, as you claim, then why would it need scaling instructions for 3? Why would it need to be changed if it is already agreed to be best that way? I'm confused.

Edit: "So you voted, and must of you believe AoE3 is best with 4 players?"

I meant 4, of course, which is the recommendation according to the BGG polls and is the magic number I used for the scaling.

Thanks for your comment.

So you leave all the sugar, hmm me thinks this is faulty scaling. I would say reduce sugar to 3-4 remove one 4 or 3 group completely and just put out 3 trades and 3 buildings a turn and see how it rolls. The rest is unnecessary

Hi Ryan.

Thanks for your interest in my scaling. This is of course a suggestion. I even believe that designer’s rules are a suggestion, since players always take the final decision regarding the rules that will take place, how, when, etc.

I kindly disagree with your suggestions. You’re scaling is more similar to a 5-down-to-3, while I made my calculations for a 4-down-to-3 scaling.

I also disagree with "the rest is unnecesary" ... I don't want to bore you with the reasons why I made these changes for my scaling and the basic math I used, but if any of you feel really interested on it, let me know, and we can gladly extend this posts and discuss it.

Again, thanks for your interest.

Enjoy AoE.
