I've owned this game plus Banzai and Desert War since their publication. What made this game great was the original art work on the personality cards and the main playing deck. All information on these cards was precise and easy to read. It appears that someone has tried to "improve" on the original game by changing all of that.
What this "new" UF Rulebook updated looks like because of these new card art work is mass confusion. The art on the cards as represented makes it difficult to see what the illustration is supposed to be. In addition all numerical information on the personality cards is in such tiny print it almost makes them useless.
All I can say is that it looks like Multiman Publishing (or whoever is to blame) is trying to revise the best game ever made into a confusing mess all in the attempt to benefit from the game's incredible success, and in doing so ultimately making ownership of the original obsolete (Newer design has to be better, right?). Avalon Hill did it right to begin with, they knew the important parts of the game, what information was used the most, and how it should be displayed on the cards. The same is to be said of the SL/ASL game system. The mess made of ASL by that bunch led me to sell it. But I still cherish SL/COI/COD/GI Anvil of Victory.
I'm just glad that I bought two copies of each of the UF games so that I will never have to suffer through a lesser attempt. YIKES!

I do have to thank lourthan for taking the time to put this rulebook together. I can tell it was a monumental undertaking. My comments in no way detract from your work. I play this game on a regular basis so I'm always happy to see that others feel the same. All I can say from one UF player to another is thank you.

First of all, there is NOTHING wrong with the new artwork. I don't feel up to explaining the whole situation. Suffice it to say that this was a homemade addition that has come to be accepted as the norm, since the company owning the rights let down an entire fan base waiting almost 10 years for a new revision.

As for Avalon Hill doing it right to begin with, I could not disagree more. Had they "done it right to begin with", they would never had allowed the rights to the game to slip into the hands of individuals who apparently had no intention of ever producing the game. There are some threads on the subject - feel free to research.

As for this work here, it is surely a labor of love, and the poster is to commended - not wholesale taken to task.

I would be extremely grateful if some kind soul would e-mail me good .pdf scans of the rulebooks for the Up Front extensions Banzai! and Desert War. I am particularly interested in the sections about the actual historical squad organizations.

It would also be a service to the community to post the Banzai! and Desert War rulebooks as .pdf files here alongside that of the original Up Front rulebook which is already posted here.

Please e-mail the rulebook .pdf's to: brian.fritz1@comcast.net . Many, many thanks in advance!

Did anyone ever send you the .pdf scans of the rules for Banzai! and Desert War? If yes, could you share with another gamer. I have all all the parts and a poor copy of the Banzai! rules but when I pulled it out today I do not have the Desert War rules so I can not renew throwing the entire Italian army against a couple of Americans. Thanks

I have to agree. I prefer the old cards. Having said that, for those who disagree, I'm sure the effort put into this is appreciated.

It's a fantastic game so I'm pleased to see people working to keep it alive.
