Saboteur2_Flowchart_Alternative.pdf (15 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
The flowchart has two distinct versions to cover the rules discussions and updates from the designer. The new official rules are in the flowchart below, to be nice and simple for the profiteer.

This one is an alternative flowchart, which accentuates the difference between profiteer and boss. In this case, the Boss is considered part of both green and blue digging teams, while the Profiteer is only part of the single winning team. It's a subtle distinction, but it changes a few of the weirder cases in the flowchart.

This version is my personal preference, it should be considered a variant because it was not the final decision in the designer's poll thread as mentioned in the caption below.

This is the finalized flowchart for determining the winners.

It is based on the rules as written, and on the discussions in the rules forum, but with a focus on two threads: designer asks for input on rule clarification and discussion for Yargo's awesome player aid.

The profiteer's special cases are based on the idea that the "profiteer always wins" - this was the consensus built by the designer's poll in the first thread mentioned above. The support for this is that it keeps the rules as simple as possible.

Looks great! Very helpful for clarifying things.

Quick question, though:

"If the PROFITEER uncovers the treasure
and there are no doors blocking the path,
then the PROFITEER must choose which
digging team wins: Blue or Green, before
the role cards are revealed."

I thought that irrespective of which team the Profiteer chooses, both teams would get the gold (there are no doors blocking the entrance, therefore all the "good" dwarves can walk straight to the gold). Am I wrong?

I stand corrected - you are right I just checked the rules to confirm.

I am not going to update the file, yet.

There is a discussion going on in this thread that is currently focused on the Profiteer. I'm going to wait until the designer settles the issue, and then I will update the flowchart to reflect the final conclusions.

There's a typo under if Green or Profiteer revealed the treasure. Saboteur should lose (not win).

You should probably put the Profiteer in his own category because the rules say that ALL non-saboteurs win if the profiteer makes the connection.

Also, you left out the Geologist revealing the treasure.

Nice flowchart btw.

Thanks! The saboteurs winning typo is embarrassing.

I'm planning on updating the flowchart to tweak the profiteer win conditions too, but I was waiting on the results of the designer-initiated rules clarification thread.

The thread has settled on some final rules, so I need to update the flowchart accordingly. I'll try to get it done this weekend and upload it again.

Kurii, hopefully you can take a look at that point too. It's great to have someone proofread the file.

Of course. I'll take a look when you upload it.

I was thinking about making these small paper cut-outs (about less than half the size of the actual cards) of win conditions for each Dwarf type. This way I can sleeve the cards and slip the paper inside to prevent confusion among people unfamiliar with the rules.

For example:

Blue Gold-Diggers
Win:
- an unblocked connection to the treasure was made by a non-Green Gold-Digger

Lose:
- the connection to the treasure was blocked by a Green door
- the treasure was found by a Green Gold-Digger
- the treasure was not found

Saboteur
Win:
- the treasure was not found

Lose:
- the treasure was found

Boss
- gets 1 gold less than the other winners

Win:
- the treasure was found

Lose:
- the treasue was not found

Profiteer
- always wins; never loses
- gets 2 gold less than the other winners

Geologist
- never wins; always loses
- gets gold equal to the number of visible crystals on the board
- gold is split between all Geologists (rounded down)

The Lose condition may seem kind of redundant but it's sometimes necessary to have in order to grind the idea into someone.

So, according to the flowchart, the Geologist always win regardless of whether the start is connected to the treasure?

I think the rulebook says when the treasure is split, a Geologist gets as many Gold Pieces as there are crystals visible in the maze of tunnels."

I think they win only when it's connected to the treasure AND somebody's
splitting the treasure?!

Ok. I've finally updated the file. All edits/typos discussed above are included in the new file.

I've split it into two versions to reflect the rules debate. In the end, I didn't agree with the general consensus on how the rules should so I just included my version as a variant. However, I believe the game designer prefers my version too, as it holds truer to the original intent of how the profiteer differs from the boss, so I've decided to share it too!

And @Maki0930 - the geologists are independent of the gold.
