Mansions of Madness - Fully Revised Scenarios v1-3.pdf (7.08 MB) (Log in or Register to download.)
All five scenarios from the base game of Mansions of Madness, fully revised to improve the gameplay experience for those who dislike certain elements of the original game, such as unwinnable objectives or uninteresting keeper actions. Created with the help of the BGG community (the creation history of this file can be found in the Mansions of Madness forums).

This latest version contains some revisions to scenario 4 to make the story a lot more cohesive as well as rebalance the Darkness keeper action card. There are also new rules for fire, as well as revisions to a few other cards as well.

Note that for anyone who has already downloaded v1.2, there is a separate 2-page file that allows you to update your revised set elsewhere in the MoM files section.

If and when you do, please let me know how it went, as I'm not sure how long it will be before I have the chance to try it out myself!

Wow--excellent work! wow I watched this project with interest, but I was hesitant to incorporate these changes. I did not relish the prospect of keeping a crib-sheet handy, or slipping mini notes into the sleeves of each affected card. Now you've taken this a step further and made some fine-looking card AND rules overlays! Can't wait to see how it plays--we'll bust it out next time we play MoM!

This looks GREAT. i just wonder how to print all the extra cards. Will they be in artscow? Just printing and cutting will make them easy to distinguish from the other. Use a plastic sleeve on each real card and then put the print one inside would maybe be an option.

Is there any cheap online option for plastic sleeves (big as the keeper cards and small as the items cards)?

Cheap for the Netherlands, I have no idea, but you can order sleeves of exactly the right size from FFG.

Here's the FFG option:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm...

You're looking at Standard USA and Mini USA sizes. Count up the number of cards for the base game and for any expansions you own before buying to figure out how many packs you need. Who'd you buy the game from? Any chance they carry or could order these?

A lower-cost alternative is Mayday Games' sleeves, but I would strongly recommend you avoid them unless you have no alternative.

http://maydaygames.com/card-sleeves

You're looking at Standard Chimera and Mini Chimera sleeves. They're significantly cheaper than FFG's sleeves, but you get what you pay for. They're much thinner than the FFG sleeves, and break down pretty quickly. And the sleeves will vary in size, from "It's smaller than the card it's designed to sleeve," to "it's so big the card just falls out!" I used to buy them due to the price savings, but eventually got fed up with their utter lack of quality control.

There are other brands out there like Ultra Pro, but I can't speak to their quality unfortunately.

You roll the 10-sided die to test the number of rooms that are currently on fire. It's exactly like testing an investigator's Strength or Intelligence, etc., but instead of testing an investigator it tests an environmental condition.

So let's say the Bathroom, the Foyer, and the Garden are on fire. That's 3 rooms. You roll the 10-sided die, and the investigators are hoping for a 3 or lower. The keeper is hoping for a 4 or higher. This is because if the roll passes (3 or lower), then an investigator gets to extinguish one of those fires. Ashcan Pete REALLY needs to take a leak, so he puts out the Garden fire. (What--you thought I was going to say Bathroom? He's a hobo! The man bathes in the rain and uses poison ivy for toilet paper!)

Basically, the more fire tokens there are in the house, the more likely that some of those flames might go out.

I actually have a question for Chris--if we have revision suggestions, where would you like them posted? Here? The revision project history page?

My thinking is the Trauma Card "The Only Way Out." Not a fan. I always play Keeper in my group, and I still find it cheap! Have ever since my first game, when I used it the moment the objective was revealed to kill an investigator. It felt like a cop-out.

I like how your revision encourages the keeper to kill players mid-game with a threat reward. What if the card's text were changed to this (while leaving the flavor text alone):

"The keeper must spend 4 threat to play this card. You are killed. The keeper gains an additional 5 threat. The keeper must discard this card and redraw a new Trauma Card if the objective has been revealed."

Basically, this means the keeper cannot use this card to eliminate a character in the climax. Thematically, we'll say that now the investigators KNOW their reason for being, so at least until that purpose is fulfilled, they won't commit suicide. And for the Keeper, this is still a good card because they spend 4 threat but get 10 threat out of it, or even 15 threat in select circumstances. That's a net gain of 6/11 threat.

Anywhere, really (I'm subscribed to all related threads), though I suppose the project history page makes most sense.

I would love to revise all of the Trauma and Mythos cards as well (some of them are just ridiculously costed, and many are just boring or useless), but that's opening up a whole new can of worms. I'll get around to it one day when I have more time, but for now it will have to wait I'm afraid.

We're new to MoM, having only played the first scenario so far. I have a question about your mod here. I suspect it has an obvious answer that I'm just missing, so I'll ask:

For your version of Inner Sanctum's Objective 1C one of the possible conditions is "A monster is in the same room as the dropped Clue 1 card".

When would the clue 1 card (e.g. Marie's unconscious form) be dropped? THe only rules I see for dropping it would be if the investigator carrying it dies. But I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something. Is there another mechanic that would force or allow it to be dropped?

No, it is basically just if the investigator dies (or if the investigators choose to drop the Clue 1 card).

OK, thanks. I was also confused because I forgot clues count as exploration cards, which the investigator can drop during their drop action.

Given that, I would make the small suggestion of changing the wording on that card to say "A monster is in the same room as a dropped Clue 1 card" or maybe "A monster is in the same room as the Clue 1 card if it's not being carried by an investigator"

I suggest the change because in my mind, saying "the dropped clue" implies that it will definitely exist at some point (as a dropped card), whereas saying "a dropped clue" indicates that it's simply a possibility.

The wording feels a little awkward to me in all these cases, but brevity is important so it's a trade-off.

Anyway, awesome work on all this. Thanks!

"The" makes more sense in this case. It's a definite article, referring to a very specific card--the one and only Clue 1 card in this scenario. "A" is an indefinite article, meaning it could be referring to any old Clue 1 card. Since there's no questin which Clue 1 card we're referring to, it is the Clue 1 card. (It's the difference between saying "I'll read a book" and "I'll read the book." "The" refers to a very specific book, while "a" book could be any book.)

It's not about someone definitely or possibly dropping the Clue 1 card. To indicate that, we'd have to change the wording some other way, but it doesn't seem like a necessary change to me.

Quick question about your modified event 4 in Blood Ties:

The original card says to reveal the objective, but your version doesn't. When should the objective be revealed?

When the investigators find Clue 1 (or when the keeper fulfils his objective). It is like this for most of the revised scenarios. In fact, in the latest revision, I've also removed the Reveal Objective text from Scenario 1, Event 4 (though a few of them now have Reveal Objective on Event 5, as Event 5 no longer ends the game).

My ones seemed to turn out very slightly smaller as well, but I didn't create the card templates - they're the standard ones used by most people to create custom scenarios as provided by Matildadad. Has anyone else experienced this when printing out other scenarios?

Yes, this is the case with Completing the Circle as well. The advantage is that when put in a sleeve, a miscut doesn't reveal the paper behind the card.

First of all i would like to thank for this great remake of the scenarios.
I started playing with them and the new obejctive and keeper actions card are very interesting.
I'm going to play Blood ties soon using objective 1B and there are a couple of things not completely clear.
1-The pyromania card says that the investigator have the chance to remove a fire token from a room after the keeper test the number of room on fire. The investigators need to be in a room with fire in order to do that or can do that on a distant room?
2- Passing the test in event 4 is positive for the keeper so why the investigators should spend a skill point on that? did i interpret it correctly?

Thanks for the clarifications

It can be any room, not just a room containing an investigator.

In the case of that event, you add the blood relative's Luck to the die roll, not to the target number, meaning spending the skill points makes the roll more likely to fail.
