Looks very neat and more handy than the other version that was posted recently. Two ideas: Can you maybe upload a higher-res version (or does BGG block then?) - and, is it possible to add a legend that explains the icons somewhere on the sheet itself? I wouldn't want to come to BGG if I take out the sheet in two months and don't remember what they all were

I've only had a quick look, but once a monster den and and spawning ground are conquered, then the space is just ignored. You cannot repeatedly go in and kill more monsters.

Whilst I appreciate fan made handouts, the danger is that they aren't quite right.

I think that's an unfair assessment. I have been gaming for 40 years and have rarely found player aids from a manufacturer as being complete and free of error. The reason I put this out to the community was to have other eyes view this so we can get it right. I found the little cards, walkthrough and rules (all needed to understand Mage Knight) inadequate to serve the needs of the groups I play in. I have made dozens of player aids and have sent only a few up to BGG. Some get submitted to C3I and other house organs. I want to get this right and will make sure that the end result is factually accurate, functional and concise. I thank you for pointing out the errors. I will correct these and any other inconsistencies that are pointed out. As a point and perhaps to a fault I do not submit player aids frivolously.

Regarding the first posters comments I will resubmit with corrections and higher res if I don't violate the upload policy.

Regards,

Peter

No offence intended Peter, your attempt looks great and I'm sure some people will find it helpful. I pointed out what I noticed was incorrect so that you can fix it, I didnt say it was bad at all, just that there is a danger with things being wrong.

Heck, even my fan-made city reference cards were wrong, and I feel really bad about that, because a lot of people downloaded them and were using them.modest

I'm just worried that I might end up having to check everything people do to see if it correct.

I think that's what makes this community great. That there are other people checking the work produced here. Heck imagine how Vlaada or any other designer/developer feels when they get it wrong - errata, living rules, faqs, change in design implications (e.g. Marvel Heroes), house rules to fix supposed problems, whether real or not (AFAoS). I think we do the designer a service (when done responsibly) as it opens the door to many gamers that find the current aids, rulesets, walkthroughs and sample turns too opaque for others. It greatly helps introduce less fanatical gamers that are not well steeped in the mechanics of the game to pick it up and play, thus allowing these games to apply to a wider audience. I appreciate your input and should have version 1.1 uploaded tonight.

Nice catch and already fixed. The file that had been submitted will not not have this fix as it was uploaded last night 1-17-12 but does have the legend and higher resolution. I will wait to hear from others any tweaks that should be made, compile them and submit for upload. Thanks.

Looks great, can't wait to use it my only comment would be you might want to bold the small type as the lettering can get to thin and make a little harder to read, it's still readable as is just it might make it easier on us older, should be wearing reading glasses but don't peoples.

I don't think anyone's pointed this out to you yet, but there's a difference between how reveals for monster den/spawning ground work vs. dungeon/tomb...the first two are placed face down when revealed, and then turned face up when entered. This is important because the monsters will stay in a monster den or spawning ground if undefeated. The second two (dungeon and tomb) are drawn specifically upon entering the dungeon or tomb, and are discarded if they are not defeated. Every time you enter a new dungeon or tomb, you draw new tokens (thus they are more dangerous since you can't directly prepare for a specific combat). Another important fact that I don't think is noted is the fact that because of this fact, you can re-enter dungeons and tombs even after they've been conquered. (they are an infinate supply of monsters, and good for levelling up).

Perosnally, I would strongly recommend that the alternative rule (in the rules) be used where you do NOT place a token on monster dens and spawning grounds when revealed. Over many further plays, this only seemed to add to the confusion about which spaces were safe.

The rest of your comments Matthew are spot on.

I specifically did not broach the subject of when counters get placed in the hex. The "flip" column was meant to convey when counters get revealed not when they are placed on the board. So for the monster den/spawning grounds the counters get flipped when you actually enter the adventure icon on the space. I tend to agree with Paul on this that when the dungeon, tomb, spawning grounds or monster den spaces are revealed on the tile being placed we do not place any tokens on the board at this time. When the knight player moves into the space they must specifically state that they are encountering the adventure (e.g. going into the tomb), we then place the requisite tokens on the appropriate space.

Regarding the Spawning Grounds retaining tokens I see the following progression.
Prior to entry but the tile is revealed - Nothing happens
Once the space is entered and the knight chooses to encounter the SG they place two tokens face up on the space and enter combat.
If only one enemy is defeated a new enemy is place in the space face down. The enemy that was not defeated remains face up in the space.
If neither enemy was defeated they both remain face up in the space until a later encounter. The same is true for the the Monster Den with the exception that you are only working with one token.

The tomb and dungeon are replaced each time the combatant fails (i.e. tokens are discarded.

I have made some notes on the new revision to make this clear to other players and I thank you for your attention to detail. Hopefully the next revision clarifies all the points made.

Without knowing anything about your setup you may want to try the following:

First I just downloaded the file and printed it on a B&W HP laser printer and it printed fine. If you are using an older laser printer the memory buffer or spooler may not be able to handle the print density sometimes this yields a blank page or a partially printed page. If you are running on a windows box you may want to look at the printer queue while you are printing. It displays the status of the current print jobs. If the pdf is not showing up in th printer queue at all then something may be wrong with your system. I would test it by printing another pdf file. If you are getting nowhere then I can send you a down-sampled version of the pdf (lower resolution) and subsequently a smaller file. Let me know how you make out.

Same problem here; I love the look of the high resolution PDF, but trying to print it is placing a big strain on my PC (which hangs for several minutes). It was even worse when I tried printing it in B&W, taking ten minutes before my PC wanted to do anything else! And after all of that, all I got was a lovely blank page.

The printer should be up to the job, as it's the main colour printer at work, costing about as much as my car (so it's either a very fancy printer, or maybe I drive a very cheap motor vehicle).

I can upload a lower res image to go along with the high resolution image if you prefer. I haven't heard back from the Dan Conley so I assume he found a solution. Let me know if you would like me to do this.
