storm_on_the_woodland_realm_encounter.pdf (4.82 MB) (Log in or Register to download.)
Inspired by the other high quality scenarios here at bgg, I decided to do one on my own. "Storm on the Woodland Realm" is set right after "Escape from Dol Guldur" and is my personal ending for the Mirkwwood.
As you may notice, english is not my mouthed tongue, so please excuse smaller mistakes. I hope you have as much fun playing the the scenario s I had designing it, and please tell me how you liked it!

Hi Markus, thanks for producing this and sharing it.
Here are my initial thoughts (I haven't played it yet):

1. The presentation of this quest, and the artwork, are excellent.
2. It looks interesting. I will certainly print the cards and give it a try.
3. You have spelt "Forest" wrong throughout the quest :-)
4. Thematically, having Narya as a random guarded encounter is a bad idea. Narya is held by Gandalf and is an item of great power. I recommend you invent a new name for this, or call it "Elven ring of power" or something like that.
5. Dagger in the back - "discardpile" should be two words. Typo on "Shuffel". This card seems to be placed into the player's discard deck - is this right? Seems odd as all the other ambush cards go back into the ambush deck. Should the Ambush cards have the same card backs as the player cards?
6. Cryptkeepers of Dol Goldur - the card refers to "Guards of Dol Guldor". Should that be "Cryptkeepers of Dol Goldur"?
7. This tree looks familiar - typo on "Dicard".
8. Corrupted huorn grove - typo on "ist".
9. Not all who wander are lost - typo on "diveded".
10. Unexpected Help - "creatures" should be "creature" and "Damage" should be "damage".
11. They must come this way - I do not understand what this card does. Do you mean shadow cards rather than treachery cards?
12. The witchking's order - "discardpile" should be two words. The shadow effect needs to be worded more clearly - which player does the new creature engage? Does it attack this turn? Does it get a shadow card?
13. Unexpected Attack - I would probably give this card surge or some additional effect.
14. Armoured spider - there is no game definition for creatures with flying. Maybe use "eagle" instead?
15. Mudlurkers - Ambushcard should be two words.

Hope this helps, and keep up the great work!

Hi John Davis,

thank you very much for your feedback. Let me explain a few things.

1. Thank you.
2. I hope my game design skill are better than my english grammar
3. Sorry for the mistakes. I think I will correct all the typos and upload a revised pdf in the near future.
4. Hmm, I think I made It powerfull enough to be Gandalfs Ring. And the fact that it is a random encounter and not a piece of equipment you could buy any time, should represent that too. But maybe you are right, "Elvish Ring of Power" sounds allright for me.
5. It should go back in the ambush card deck. (First all the abbush cards were designed to go into the players discard pile, but after playtesting I changed that).
6. Cryptkeepers of Dol Goldur is correct. I changed the name during the design process.
11. Yes, it should refer to shadow cards. (I only have a german version of the game, and mistranslated it.)
12. The newly added creature should attack the same player, which the creature is attacking which was dealt the shadow card. I thought shadow cards are first dealt on all creatures and later revealed. So the added creature would not get a shadow card (in this round).
13. Ups, your right. It seems I played too much magic lateley. Please use "eagle" instead.

Wow these look awesome! I'm stunned at the talent out here. What are you folks using to back this beautiful artwork to make it more like the playing cards?

Hi, thanks a lot for creating such an enjoyable and challenging scenario, my play group used the the spiders of mirkwood option and it was a great ride. I had a question that wasn't mechanics related, but i was wondering where you got the illustrations and pictures from for the cards?

Hi!

I liked your scenario very much, your creativity is inspiring.

A few thoughts:

1 - 'Creature' is a trait, the card type is 'Enemy'.
2 - 'Forced' is a keyword that reacts to something, you do not need that on the first quest card; the setup should cover those two effects.
3 - Heart of the Forest: It is a 'Forced' ability but it says 'may' in the text. I feel it should be reworded as a 'Response' instead, and without the 'may' in there.
4 - Please, PLEASE, could you send me an archive with these images? laugh I have quite of few of those, but some other are simply AWESOME!
5 - This quest isn't as difficult as a Dif. 6 should be, can I recommend you to lower it down to 4-5 (with the increase of +1 when adding the Spiders)?

Thank you.

Abot the artwork. Look at a card with an artwork you like. The illustrator is written on the left buttom of every official card. Go to devianart.com and search for the illustrator. See what what he has done, and also what other artists he or she likes. Go there, and so on...

You will be amazed how many talented artist are out there in the web.

If you want to use any of the artwork from them, be sure it's nor for commercial use devil and credit the Illustrator on you publication.
