terrain tiles v11.zip (511 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
This is a set of terrain tiles that can replace the original cards for the Normandy campaign. They are (more or less) geomorphic, that is they fit nicely together and allow you to create big, connected Normandy landscapes.

V1.1 update
This slightly updated version fixes a speling msitake (thanks to Grotius) and includes a new 'map legend' tile (not for play). Included is the SVG only, useful if you want to change stuff. Exported tiles for print'n'play can be found as a separate file here.

terrain tiles.svg.zip (503 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
This is a set of terrain tiles that can replace the original cards for the Normandy campaign. They are (more or less) geomorphic, that is they fit nicely together and allow you to create big, connected Normandy landscapes.

This is the first version, instructions on how to print and assemble them are included in this file. The included file is a SVG vector file, created using Inkscape. I recommend opening, editing and printing using Inkscape as well. As there are a lot of objects, editing and/or moving many terrain tiles at the same time can be quite slow and cumbersome. I suggest copying single tiles into a new document for editing.

I've spent more time with these, and I'm really impressed. Two questions and a couple comments:

1. Is it okay for me to use these in a Session Report?

2. Also, do you object if we edit the tiles themselves? E.g., the word "cemetery" is spelled incorrectly (there's no "a" in that word). Also, I might want to add some real-world names to tiles.

I tried opening this in an SVG-friendly browser, but I had trouble. As you indicate, Inkscape is the way to go. It's free.

I don't know if I have the wherewithal to print these out and mount them on suitable cardboard: I'm not good at that sort of thing, and my guess is I'd end up with lumpy tiles. But I could definitely see "drawing a map" on my PC using your tiles, then maybe moving my map into Photoshop for more editing. I've already copied some into Photoshop, and they look fine. That'd be great for AAR-creation.

Hi Hugh,

Sure, you may use those tiles as you like (that's why I posted them I hoped SVG was the most compatible and usable format. The CC-license explicitly allows you to modify these tiles, create new work based on it, and share your creation as well.

Browsers (and I think some image viewers) have a problem displaying this file, as the 'viewable' area is defined as a standard printer-sized region which, unfortunately, puts all the tiles outside this 'viewable' area.

I had good results printing the tiles on glossy photo paper. That alone gives it a nice, sturdy feel. Additionally I glued them onto cardboard, and now these tiles are roughly as thick as GMT counters and very sturdy. You just need good scissors to cut through the heavier cardboard. It might even help to glue the whole page onto the cardboard first and then cut through the printout+cardboard at the same time -- it should give better edges.
