8 Advanced Civilization:: Advanced Civilization Optimized Card Purchaser
Submitted By: medew
AdvCiv.xls 372 KB
One of the things that takes the longest in this game is figuring out which civilization cards to get and what it'll cost. There are numerous tools that do the math, but this spreadsheet employs Excel's Solver add-in to optimize the purchase of the cards. You tell it: - Which trade cards you have - Which trade cities you own (if using that variant) - Where you want to use your Mining bonus - Your treasury - Any civilization cards that you MUST buy this turn - Which civilization cards you currently own When everything is input, click the "Buy me something!" button and a macro will run the Solver add-in to minimize the "waste" from spending trade cards and treasury while keeping below the 8 trade card limit. If you accept the OCP's recommendation, the civilization cards you own are updated so you won't have to keep entering which cards you own each time you run the tool. The spreadsheet has separate worksheets for each available civilization, so every player can use it simultaneously. It also has places to track number of cities and relative position on the AST so a running VP score can also be kept. The tool does have some limitations, mostly in that it doesn't "error-check" to make sure you're not using Mining on multiple commodities, or have more than 1 of a particular civilization card, etc..

Adv Civ 4 in 1 Aid v1.0.pdf 168 KB
I found many of the player aids provided for Adv Civ very useful but it was too many sheets to manage so I've produced this amalgam of several player aids into one double-sided sheet. This borrows heavily from mrtof's Graphical Player Aid, pchavez's Players Aid - Civ & Commodity Charts and JonesTheBoca's help sheet accompanying his excellent Adv Civ Score Tracker. In all cases I've made changes where (in my opinion) the information is now more thorough or easier to understand.

23 Advanced Civilization:: Color Civilization PDF Player Aid with Map
Submitted By: msobotta
ColorSatCivAid.pdf 6.02 MB
This is a color interactive PDF aid that includes: 1) A smaller sat map I created using http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/36555/vectorized-mapboard-incl-western-exp- as my starting point. 2) I also added a radio A.S.T. Tracker where you can track which Age each player is in. 3) A Population calculator that uses your Treasury and Stock number. You can also change the number of tokens in game. 4) City Support calculator and Ship counter to keep track. 5) City Tracker so you can see how many cities you have and where you want to put them. Also works for recording a session. 6) A Player tracker so you can list who is playing which civilization. 7) A Start Date/Start Time/Finish Time so you can record your playtime if need. 8) A place to put Notes about the events or player or anything else that will help you win the game or record your experience. 9) If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 or newer you can save the file as a record of previous games played. Also it is saved as READ ONLY so it will ask you for a new FILE NAME so that you don't save over the original. If you use this with one of the card downloads on year you will have a perfect setup to make the game move even faster by having an idea of what to do before you do it. Also by keeping track of what you need for support which can be easily overlooked. Also let me know any way you think I can make it better. It's not suppose to be the end all to all Civilization player aids. I spent a lot of time on it and hopefully it will help you enjoy the game and give you that edge you need. I also assume it would work with both regular Civ and Advanced Civ.

17 Advanced Civilization:: Custom AdvCiv Commodity, Calamity, Civilization Cards + tips for making your own AdvCiv game - v1.0
Submitted By: tpapp157
AdvCiv_makeyourown.doc 32 KB
This document contains some tips and instructions for making your own version of advanced civilization based on my own experiences making the game. I don't claim that this is the best way of going about constructing the game but it presents a good starting point for those unsure of how to begin. It also provides some good tips regardless of what methods you may end up using for making the various parts and pieces.

Techs.zip 2.81 MB
These are the Civilization cards. These cards are 600x750 pixels with a resolution of 300ppi. At this resolution they will print out to 2x2.5 inches (5.1x6.35 cm). This size is about as small as I would suggest printing these cards. You may want to consider lowering the resolution to print them out larger. These cards are black and white. They feature the card name, cost, credit/cost ratio, group, group symbol, and rules text. The rules text is meant only as a quick reference and may not cover all the rules associated with the card. Consult the rulebook for the full rules.
Apr 11, 2010
Calamities.zip 1.48 MB
These Calamity cards have the same sizing as the Commodity cards and the two should be printed similarly (because they need to go in the same stacks). The Calamity cards are black and white. They feature the calamity name, stack value, and a large body of rules text. The rules text may not cover all of the rules and is meant only as a reference. I encourage you to consult the actual rules during calamity resolution. Also included is a back image.
Apr 11, 2010
Commodities.zip 1.92 MB
These are custom commodity cards that I made. These cards are 467x668 pixels with a resolution of 267 ppi. At this resolution they will print out to 1.75x2.5 inches (~4.45x6.35 cm). I wouldn't suggest printing these cards out any smaller than this as they will start to become too small to handle. If you would like to print them out larger, you can do so by lowering the resolution. A resolution of about 207 ppi will print the cards at ~2.25x3.25 inches (~5.72x8.25 cm). These commodity cards are in black and white. Printing so many cards in color can get expensive so I avoided it as much as I could. The cards feature a stylized picture of the commodity, the commodity's value, name, and set values. I tried to make each card look as similar in style to the others as possible. Also included is a card back image. Watch this page as I will be uploading most of the other game materials that I made. The custom map that I made can already be found here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/54198/custom-advciv-map-western-expansion-v1-0

I created this map for my own use and I was pleased with how it turned out. You can view a lower resolution version of the map here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/690489/advanced-civilizat... The map was created using USGS topographic data so that all the geographic features are accurate (though some were adjusted for gameplay reasons). It was then modified in photoshop to get the style that I wanted. This file is a full resolution 10980x5820 pixel image at 300ppi. At this resolution it will print out at 36.6x19.4 inches (93x50 cm). This map size is best suited for square tokens of 0.5 inches (12.5 mm) or smaller (some areas like Greece will still get pretty crowded). Upload is complete. This is the fifth file archive part of five. Download all five archive parts into the same directory and use a program like WinRAR or 7zip to extract the map file. Let me know what you think.

Adv.Civ. Comodity cards [by MilanGM] -Fixed-.part1.rar 5.05 MB
(Fixed version of commodity cards. Part 1) I wasn't satisfied with either old or any of new versions of commodity cards provided. So i created my own commodity cards from samples i've found on this forum. I tried to make design somewhat "neutral", neither too modern neither too old. About cards: The numbers on cards are positioned in the both upper left/right corners (for left/right handed players). Also. I wrote more commodity value-numbers on the cards just to give you an option if you want to print more cards than usual. Calamities now have brief instruction about them written on the cards. But YOU SHOULD READ THE RULES FIRST, since i couldn't write absolutely everything there. Also, this may have a downside - if you read a card during the game for too long, other players may notice that, and they may figure out you have a calamity in your hand. So, instruct (new) players to pay attention to that. I've reduced the cards dimensions a little bit (they are 56 x 40mm) to fit my print format better (A3 with margins 40 x 28cm, where i can put 10x5=50cards) but you can resize them if you want. Since they are mainly made out of vector graphic - you wont loose quality. Editing: I worked in illustrator CS3 and all cards were converted into "Symbols", so modifying ONE card will modify ALL instances of that card-type! Except calamities, they don't have to be converted into illustrator "symbols" since you only need just one of each. So, if you open this PDF file in illustrator CS3+ you should get all editing capabilities, just in case you want to edit cards or text. Note that this is not print-ready version. I only provided one single instance of each card, you need to "clone" them yourself (alt+mouseMove) to fit your print-format. It's best to turn on "snapping" when doing this. Since this is a PDF fie you can import it even in photoshop, if you don't like/have illustrator. Printing: I suggest to print them on 250g heavy paper. You will notice that face of the cards will have one pixel of non-black space between them, so you can see where is the middle when you need to cut between the cards. Card backgrounds don't have any space, so you should cut from "face side" (it is always better for face of the cards to have more precise cut). On the pages where you only print card-backs, i suggest you to draw large rectangle below all cards and make it the same color as card frames (note, card frames are not full-black, they are dark brown, you should "pick" that color). The rectangle should "bleed" a few millimeters over, because, if you "miss" when printing card-backs pages, when you cut them, you may get white lines on the edges of the cards. Note that i already provided that kind of background as a separate object in separate layer. Hope you like the cards, enjoy Advanced Civilization ;)

I've created my own version of Avalon Hill Advanced Civilization game board. I've used real physical world map images. The map is scaled to 3xA3 paper format (with reduced margins) but you can resize it the way you want to fit your desired print format. Just don't deform it too much. ;)
