We found it annoying to get the setup of On The Brink correct when playing with the challenges, since you have to switch between the base game's instructions and several places in the OTB manual. These are the original setup steps for Pandemic modified with the changes in On The Brink. The steps that are specific to particular challenges are colour-coded. This is a revision of [url=http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/3422779#3422779]Superhawks excellent single pawn variant[/url] for Pandemic itself. Much of the credit goes to him! I have changed the rules a bit and added support for the Virulent Strain and Mutation variants. Edit: Having played it some more after submission I discovered that it might be a tad too easy. But then that may also be because I'm accumulating experience and some of the roles are quite easy in solo play. I used the Generalist with 6 Virulent Strain epidemic cards and the Mutation challenge, and lost because the virulent strain ran out of cubes. I then switched to the Field Operative (same setup) and won fairly easily. But the FO is easy, as accumulating three cards is MUCH easier in solo play than 5, and picking up three cubes from the same colour is fairly easy too (there doesn't seem to be a restriction on how many cubes the FO can hold at the same time). Let me have some feedback if you try it out. Here's an easy way to up the difficulty quite a bit: Draw an extra card from the Player draw pile after you have drawn your own two, and discard it - but apply an epidemic before you discard it if you draw one.
