In "Nice Weather - East of Essen" (with the modest tag-line "A brainy train game - the most clever ever), you travel around Europe chasing "Nice Weather". You spend your autumns and winters around the Mediterranean, your summers in Scandinavia and your springs in Central Europe.
You travel by your own railroads, or by paying the other players' to use theirs. Players can set ticket prices high to squeeze out profits, or low to undercut competitors. If you can't find a cheap train ticket, then you can always go by car/airplane, in which case you might contribute to global warming (the only random element in the game). Global warming makes the Southern-most cities unattractive, while new holiday destinations pop up in the far North.
The game features dynamic land prices, which automatically balances the game. This allows for a randomized game board; for each game, 10 European cities out of 72 are randomly selected. The eleventh city is always Essen, and this is where all players start the game; in October 2008 to be exact.
