Even legitimate game owners would be well served to craft a do-it-yourself version for the opportunity to fix all the mistakes (like removing the useless/misleading text on "RORRIM EHT NI EGAMI", correcting the errors on "Revolving Wall" and "Crystal Ball", making the Underground Lake a basement tile, creating a turn/damage track that has a 'zero' space, making a rulebook with all the "Addd this rule" passages from the FAQ ...).

I know I've given consideration to re-creating the tile deck with ceramic tiles.

Maybe somebody here knows somebody that works there, and they know somebody higher up... etc.

Pretty dang unlikely, but has anybody actually tried?

/Polyanna mode off :meeple:

True.

However, nothing stopping a company from doing a *similar* game. Heck, it seems like Flying Frog might just be on a path that will carry it directly to a Betrayal-esque style game.

Hi all,

this game is out of print for a while now, and it achieves really VERY high prices on ebay. Simply too much! So, with Avalon Hill having their 50th anniversary this year: How about a reprint of this game? This shouldn't be very expensive for them, as they already have everything they need....

Come on guys, don't let us suffer any longer! We should start a petition!

Yeah, QA/QC sucked on this one. They reissued the Booklets as PDF's to clarify these mistakes. I recommend downloading and printing Universal Head's sheets. He put the background on them and made them look more like the originals. Hasborg just issued Word documents basically.

Anyways:
1) It is the next room you reveal with either an Event or Omen symbol.

2) Sounds like the Traitor can discover the Phantom if he explores an area and a new tile is drawn with an Event or Omen symbol. Only the Heroes can fight it though.

3) Should be number of players: 3-6
The numbers have been revised to
3 players --- 8+
4 players --- 7+
5 players --- 6+
6 players --- 5+

EDIT:
Sorry, forgot the links:
Universal Head BaHotH TRAITOR'S TOME Reformat
Universal Head BaHotH SECRETS OF SURVIVAL Reformat

Thread: The Phantom's Embrace!

As everyone assembled for a long night in the house on the hill, each of them could feel there was evil in the air. Ox Bellows looks around, "OK, who wants to be the first to enter the house?" he asks the group. Ox is the a little scary, but the brave Brandon Jasper steps up to the plate and is the first to enter. Brandon is accompanied by Vivian Lopez, Heather Granville, Missy Dubourde, Ox Bellows and Father Rhinehardt.

All 6 of our brave explorers had no idea why they were summoned to the house. Each were invited with the promise of a scary and thrilling night of fun. Little did they know it was going to be much more than that. "Well, I am not going to hang around here" stated Brandon. "I am going to look around!" With that Brandon headed for the stairs to see what trouble he could find up there. Ox, admiring the young one, followed to make sure that he would not get into to much trouble. Heather too felt a little unsure of things and decided it would be good to stay with the big man. Father Rhinehardt was feeling hungry. He stuck his nose in the air and used his super sniffer to find the kitchen, when he entered the room, he saw this shadowy figure frailing like a madman! He was wrapped in some sort of mystic web. The father used all of his might to free him from the web. "YOU FREE ME!!! I AM IN YOUR DEBT!!!" screamed the madman.

As the night grew longer, our adventurers we scattered all over the house. Heather was fallowing the Father and his companion, when all of a sudden, they disappeared. She walked through the door way they just entered... WHOOSH! she slid down the same coal shoot that the father fell down. "This must be the basement." "Father, Father. where are you father?" heather shouted. But she did not get a response.

Missy was on the east side of the house when she found master bedroom. From under the bed a young girl crawled out, "Please!!! leave me alone!!! There is a Phantom after me!!!" the girl screamed as she ran out the door.

Little did the group know, Heather was the one who sent the invites to everyone. She was under the influence of a powerful and evil Phantom that ruled the house. The phantom needs to kill the little girl in a blaze in order to be freed from this place.

Each explorer could feel something was wrong... then a vision appeared to them all. *** the little girl was in the embraces of the phantom... around them both were a huge bomb that was set to go off! They are in a room that appears to be in the basement***

The Father shouts up the coal shoot, "I know where Heather is! I saw here run down this corridor. The Phantom has to be close by! I will see if I can find him and free the girl." Excitedly he also claims he knows nothing about bombs, and if were were to survive this mess, someone better come down to help. Missy, not sure how she could help, flew down the coal shoot to help out. The rest of the group waited in the foyer waiting to see if they could lend a hand.

The father enters the first room he found and sure enough, there was Phantom with the little girl in his grasps. Both the Father and Madman made a dash for them. As the Madman took care of the phantom, the father grabbed the girl and headed out. It was a tough fight but the madman took care of business and the phantom disappeared. as he vanished he bellowed the following, "You will not get out of this house alive! in just a few moments this bomb will go off and I will be FREE!!!!"

Just as the phantom was finished, Missy ran into the room. Earlier during her explorations, she found a strange feather. Something in her told her to hold the feather above the bomb, and she did just that. Out of the darkness came a light that could only be from heaven. This was a feather from an angel! the ray of light engulfed the bomb! As quickly as the light appeared, it disappeared and along with it, so did the bomb.

Our heroes saved the girl and lived to adventure another day!

-------------------------

What a great game! IT was only luck that the father got the boost of his might with the madman. Both the phantom and the father rolled 5 dice and the father crushed him. Then having that lucky feather that could be used for a roll of 8 crushed the bomb... the haunt ended rather fast... but without those two items, I am sure it could have gone the other way.

OK, the QA that did the rules need to be shot...

Couple questions...

1. It states use and event room, but has the symbol for omen... which is it... event or omen?

2. Says when explorer finds the room. From what I understand, the traitor is still an explorer... should it state Hero not explorer? If that is the case, the traitor can find the phantom.

3. The phantom books states number of players for the time of the bomb.
It goes 3 to 5. should it be number of heroes? If so, it should go 2 to 5. If it is players, it should go 3 to 6. Either way, it is missing a set of numbers.
chart:
3 players --- 9+
4 players --- 8+
5 players --- 7+

were missing one for either 2 heroes or 6 players.

Thanks

Thread: Re: Haunt dice roll question

When you drawn an omen card before the Haunt begins, I'm fairly confident that there is no possible way to interact with another explorer or monster, enter another room, or draw another event/omen card before your turn ends (because we know you just entered an undiscovered room with an omen symbol). But that just happens to be the case; I agree with Mark's analysis, and there are some items you could use after drawing an omen card and before your turn ends (e.g. Healing Salve, Medical Kit, Puzzle Box, Mask, etc.).

Usually the most important result of this distinction is that you can roll to open the Vault on the turn you discover it (unless the event causes you to leave the room).

dcclark wrote:
Whenever you draw a card and do what it says, your turn is over. So, there is nothing that *could* happen after you're done with the card. The "make a haunt roll" text is just a reminder to do that one last thing.

That first sentence is not quite true. When you draw a card and do what it says, your (voluntary) MOVEMENT is over. Your TURN isn't. You can still, say, use items after you've drawn a card. Also, several events cause something to happen after you're done with the card - like, if it spits you out in another new room with an Item, Event, or Omen symbol, you have to resolve that (yep, even the Revolving Wall that specifically says not to - it's been errata'd).

Your last sentence is right, though. The last line of Omen cards is a reminder to make a Haunt roll at the _end_ of the current turn. If you wish to use an item (or the Mask), you can do so after resolving the main text of the Omen card, and before making the haunt roll. In theory you could also do stuff like exchange items with fellow heroes or do battle with monsters after you resolve a card, though that's generally very unlikely because, barring some strange circumstances, such things aren't in newly discovered rooms.

After the haunt starts, you might also find yourself doing haunt-defined actions (Knowledge rolls, etc) after discovering a room and resolving its event/item/omen, but before ending your turn. Of course, under these circumstances, the 'Make a haunt roll' is a moot point anyway.

Whenever you draw a card and do what it says, your turn is over. So, there is nothing that *could* happen after you're done with the card. The "make a haunt roll" text is just a reminder to do that one last thing.

Thread: Haunt dice roll question

The rule book states that you make a haunt roll at the end of a turn that a omen card is drawn, you make a haunt roll.

at the bottom of every omen card it states to make a haunt roll.

do you make two haunt roll, one for the card and one at the end of your turn... or just one at the end of your turn.

Thanks

Thread: Re: Ok, my turn - I'm in Finland, want this game so bad, but how/where to get?

Thanks for the tip. I emailed the store, but including the shipping charges to Finland, the price was just out of my league... might as well buy it from some US-eBay seller if I had that much cash to spare. Too bad. :(

But like I said, thanks anyway! Still looking...

Thread: Ok, my turn - I'm in Finland, want this game so bad, but how/where to get?

Hi everyone,

encouraged by Haydn73's apparently successful plead to find a seller of this game (see this thread), I decided I'd try to pull of the same trick here as well.

The thing is, this game sounds so great and I'm simply dying to introduce it to my group and play it, but I live in Finland and I have no idea where to get this one. :soblue: So, if there is anyone willing to sell theirs (preferably located in Europe, to minimize shipping charges), or trade the game for something I have (not much unfortunately), please contact me and let's see if we can work something out.

Thanks!
