Thread: Re: minor errata and clarifications

Hi Brian. I noted another very minor error in learning the game today: the random events card says to look up section 11.7 for naval interception, but that should be 11.6. Interesting mechanics so far.

Thread: Two suggested optional rules changes
Here are two rules suggestions, recommended by the designer (me):

Optional but recommended rule (new):

13.1 Slow French Reaction. Historically, the French authorities were slow to perceive and react to the threat posed by the initial FLN actions in November 1954 (the point at which the game begins). They were also slow to adopt more effective tactics. Therefore, until the first turn the FLN PSL exceeds the French PSL, these restrictions apply to the French player:

- he may not mobilize more than one unit or Point of any type per turn,
- his infantry divisions may not adopt Dispersed mode,
- he may not perform Pacification or Intelligence missions.

And a suggested change to an existing rule:

10.1.1 Depreciation (alternate method). For a more probabilistic depreciation penalty, if the roll on the Depreciation Table <= Loss Number, then roll a number of d6 equal to the roll and deduct the total points from the total available.

(So for example, if the FLN player had 17 AP squirreled away, the Loss Number would be 4. If he rolled a 2, then he would roll 2d6 and most likely lose 7 of them (applying the infamous Bell curve). Under the existing rule, he would roll 1d6 and multiply it by what he rolled (2), making it equally likely that he would lose 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 points.)

Thread: Re: Two rules questions

I think I may have already answered this elsewhere, but will do so here in case someone else has the same questions.

1) When a Cadre in France does a propaganda operation, does France
count as an urban area?

Sure; I hear Paris is a nice city.

2) Is it legal for the FLN, in the same Reinforcement Phase, to upgrade a cadre to a front, and THEN use that front to construct other units?

Yes. Note that the Front does not actually "construct" other units, since making new units is not a mission. It just has to be there and non-neutralized.

Thread: minor errata and clarifications

Here are all the errata and clarifications that have been brought to my attention:

Rules
•	The headings in the Table of Contents do not match the rules themselves.
•	2.3 indicates that elite French units are red, whereas they are actually dark blue (this is correct on the Unit Legend).

Charts
•	French Mobilization and Maintenance Table: Naval points cost 1 PSP to mobilize and 0 (zero) to maintain.
•	Depreciation Table: should say “Find number of unused AP or Maximum Air/Helo Points and roll 1d6”.
Thread: Two rules questions

I've been through the rulebook, and am fairly sure this isn't covered there:

1) When a Cadre in France does a propaganda operation, does France
count as an urban area?

2) Is it legal for the FLN, in the same Reinforcement Phase, to upgrade a
cadre to a front, and THEN use that front to construct other units?
