Thread: Re: USN Deluxe Questions

Each game turn represents one week.

I cannot find an official map scale, but a straight line of hexes run from Oahu to Guadalcanal. A hex distance of 18 corresponds to a geographical distance of approximately 3600 statute miles or 200 miles per hex.

Land counters represent a range of unit sizes, from battalions to armies and fronts. Historical units are not identified on the counters or in the rules.

Aircraft markers are provided in "air point" denominations in different categories of aircraft (land, naval, long-range bomber, ...). I cannot find a definition of air points in terms of plane count. As an illustration, a Yorktown class carrier might have a capacity of 10 air points, representing 100 aircraft. In this case, a marker representing 1 naval aircraft air point might represent about 10 planes. Aircraft markers of higher denominations are also provided.

Thread: USN Deluxe Questions

Hopefully someone who has this can answer some general questions....

1) Do I unstand that the turns are Weekly?
2) What is the Hex Scale = to???
3) Do land counters list actual Division Designation?
4) How many planes do the aircraft markers represent??

Thanks in advance!

Sully

Thread: Re: Sea Lines of Supply

The answer (received through the publisher) is that the Wake(985) airbase is out of supply at the beginning of campaign game 1.

Since Campaign 3 and Campaign 5 have the same start as Campaign 1, the same out of supply condition must apply to these as well.

If I understand the rules correctly, the 2-6 defense battalion, and the 1 point of LAC which begin on this hex also begin in an unsupplied state and the airbase does not exert an air zone of control (ZOC), which means that the Japanese may use strategic movement rules through hexes around this base during their normal movement phases. However, the special rules (A & B) for the pregame and Turn 1 (first movement phase) Japanese movement prohibit movement "within five hexes of an Allied Air or Naval
Base" and this seems to apply whether or not the base is supplied.

The 6-2 CDU on wake must be considered supplied since all CDU's are always considered to be supplied.
Thread: Sea Lines of Supply

I am preparing for my first game and wonder if anyone can clarify the rules on Sea Lines of Supply.

The case which I am confused about involves the Wake(985) hex airbase at the start of Campaign Game 1. As it has defensive infantry, CDU, and 1 LAC deployed at game start, I would have guessed that it began in a supplied state. However, The rules of supply seem to indicate that it begins out of supply.

It sounds unsupplied because 1) there is no naval base in the hex and therefore it may not trace an unlimited length sea line to an ultimate supply source, and 2) there are no allied naval bases within 10 hex distance (the nearest I find is 12 hexes to Rabaul (759)), and 3) there are no allied ultimate supply hexes within 10 hex distance (the nearest Australian city I find is 15 hexes to Coen (626))

Am I missing something, or is that LAC unit stranded from the start?

Thanks.
