Thread: One night, Four Games

My wife and I(Emily and John) had played Ra twice last fall and purchased it just after x-mass. It took a while put we finally pulled it off the shelf. For the other two players(Trever and Kristin) these were their first games.

Game#1 played a bit slow with Trever and Kristin picking up the mechanics. Kristin decided to use tactics that had won other games for her and started collecting Nile tiles in hopes of getting the "Longest River Award":D. As it turned out this wasn't the worst strategy. Kristen won the first game but with a narrow margin, the top three players were all within five points.

Game#2 was a barn burner with the top players all in or near the sixty point range. Trever had found his groove by this point and went with his Puerto Rico like building style. He had a huge stack of Monuments in front of him by the end of the game. Even with this the first and second place players were fairly close in points. Unfortunately the fourth place player(me) became entranced by the power of the 13 point Sun and greed got the better of him. In a hubris soaked moment he passed on starting an auction worth 15 points in hopes of getting a just a few more points and was burned when the final Ra tile was pulled. This resulted in me being no where near the other players in final points.

Game#3 went very quickly, I was the only one in the first Epoch to have any luck in how the tiles fell. I was able to garner a number of Nile and Flood tiles along with five Pharaohs. More of a factor than what I had was what the others didn't have. Emily actually ended the first Epoch scoring phase with 3 points, not 3 positive points for the round but a total of 3 points. Trever didn't gain or loose any points and Kristin gained a total of 2 points. For the rest of the game I rode my lead and kept the others for amassing too many monuments to coast to a win.

Game#4 was a reverse of game 3 with the others doing well and me not being able to catch a break. After the first Epoch I had half the points of the next closest player and less than a third of the leader. The game became a hard fought battle between Emily and Trever with Kristin and I struggling to keep up. In the end Trever won a narrow victory with Emily in a close second. Kristin and I managed a tie for last with 29 points each.

Everyone enjoyed the game and agreed we would have to make it a more frequent play.
