Thread: User Review

In this edition of Trivial Pursuit, nothing has changed except the accuracy of the answers.

The game has not changed since its initial introduction in the early 1980's, when it was the hottest game in town and notorious for numerous errors in its answers - some estimates said that 30% of the answers were wrong.

As always, players attempt to fill their trivia pie plate with six slices of different kinds of trivia pie. Players roll and move to land on a question category, and get to move again by getting the question right, as well as earn a pie wedge if they land on one of the six large spaces at the wheel's edge.

Is it fun? Not really - unless you are genuinely into trivia and can hold 4 volumes-worth of encyclopedic knowledge in your head. Much of the time, most players will end up having to guess answers rather than outright knowing them. This was once a classic party game because it was simple to learn and required no special skills or tactical/strategic abilities. But the fun factor has diminished over the years and been supplanted by many other party games that make for much more interaction and silliness between players. Trivial Pursuit, by contrast, is almost a "serious" party game.

No one in our house ever suggests playing the game any more, for which I'm quite thankful.

The big problem with the Trivial Pursuit series is that only one person may answer the questions at a time while the others twiddle their thumbs. The Roll Again spaces are also very irritating. A mediocre game that jump started the whole genre of party games, many of which were superior to this.
