It has been released by RGG under the name Cult, Siege and Creativity. The Siege aspect is essentially same rules as The Cathars but with different artwork.

I have a variant for using Cathars tiles and Siege tiles together over at www.carcassonnecentral.com (available from the forum) for those of us lucky enough to have Cathars and Siege tiles.

Didn't RGG announce an upcoming expansion (release date listed as September) which would include this and the other stuff from the new German expansion that wasn't already published in English? Cult, Siege and Creativity, listed retail price $6.

Paying a silly amount more to avoid waiting for this RGG release seems a little odd

B>

Thread: Re: Two Tile Beseiged Cities

I know I'm excruciatingly late in responding, and perhaps may be giving a ruling in contradiction to the official one, but:

Inns and Cathedrals operate such that when there is at least one of such a feature, the road/city scores one extra point per tile. Therefore, two Cathedrals will not score 2 extra points per city tile; nor would two (or more) Inns score two (or more) extra points per road.

So for the sake of both simplicity and continuity, it should hold that multiple siege tiles don't reduce the value of city tiles (or increase the points to farmers) any more than if there was just one. If the castle falls under siege once, then I guess the goal of the crusade has been achieved; another siege on the same city is just redundant. The victims can't be superconverted or superexcommunicated.

Thread: Re: Re-release?

Yeah, it was this:

Q10: Can a knight in a besieged city escape via an abbey, or only via a cloister?
A: Yes: the abbey has all the characteristics of a cloister. In this respect more is on its way - in the next expansion (really just a collection of the mini-expansions) there will also be 'places of worship' which have a close connection to cloisters. We have to rule out various problems here…

. . .

So, the sixth expansion is also confirmed, and it sounds to me like it should include The Cathars - cool!

But I think they were referring to the heretic thing or whatever, which isn't nearly as cool. What a shame. :[

There's no real reason not to, as HiG certainly isn't making any more money from the tiles.

It's Spielbox, not HiG that owns the tiles, though. If I'm correct. And Spielbox doesn't seem to want to reprint them. I think we're out of luck as far as a reprint goes.

Well, let's put it that way: I am not to judge what people are willing to pay. If it's worth for someone than it's perfectly fine. I was just shocked about the price, I didn't expect it to go that high and offered it here on the geek for like half of the price (but I wanted to trade it).
I really rarely sell games or expansions. I much more like to trade and in trade I only have a not-so-close look of the actual selling price of a game.

I no way I wanted to mock the buyer - I am happy and hope the buyer is happy as well...

Sorry if I sounded like an ass, that wasn't my intention.
Simon

Starsunsky wrote:
It intrigues me that you said such thing after you sold something. In conversations earlier this year with Spielbox, I had understood I would have access to all their expansions 6 - 12 months after they were published.
Thread: Re: Removal of meeple on a double turn (thanks to the builder)

I'd have to agree with Mik on this one. Aldaron is quick to note that the builder allows a 2nd turn (especially when someone says the builder only adds a 2nd tile). But that sometimes leads to confusion as really, it is only the "turn" itself that is double up. As Mik said, anything that happens "after" a turn, and for that matter "before" a turn only happen once, the just now happen "after" the 2nd turn and "before" the first only, not a second time in between turns.

So removing a meeple at the end of the turn through the cloister only happens once. Scoring the fairy on the same tile as your meeple before your turn only happens once.

The only way to remove more than 1 meeple per turn in a besiged city is this:
1) Complete the city and remove your meeples normally!
2) Place a princess tile in the besieged city and seduce your meeple as normal, then at the end of your turn, use the cloister to get another one out.

The Builder allow you to take a second turn (but not a third).
All normal rules apply to the placement of that second tile.

As for the escape from a besieged city:
This happends at the END of a player's turn,
so only one knight may escape per turn (after you have used your builder, and after a possible score.)

Do you end up removing 2 meeples if you placed a tile on a feature with a builder? One at the end of your 1st turn and another at the end of the 2nd turn?

Of course, I understand that the besieged city must adjacent to a cloister.

Thanks.

Thread: Re: Die Katherer - rules and collector's item questions

1. The original rules were not very clear. I take it that you can simply remove a knight from the city if the conditions are met.

2. Original rules stated it must be a knight you own. You cannot remove your opponent's knight.

3. The way I read the rules, you may remove only 1 per turn but may take as many turns to remove one knight each round until all of them can escape. There is nothing I know of that forces you to keep at least 1 knight in the city.

4. There is no restriction to the order of knights. You could remove a big one first.

5. I only have the Alamanac version. The artwork should be the exact same as the original. But what seems to happen is that the colors are slighlty off from expansion to expansion. I do not know if there was a difference between the two releases. however, my expansion is slightly different in color than the original game. The tiles are "richer" on the side with color while the tile backs are slightly washed out. However, I had the same situation with my River 2 and Count tiles as well. So it's not obvious that you are pulling just a Cathar tile and unless you study the tiles, not so obvious they are different at all.

6. Not so much rare as expensive. It is still available for purchase from Funagain.com (at least it was a few months or so ago) and you can still contact Spielbox directly to get the Almanac back issue (which is what I did). In both cases, you are paying a premium for the shipping to the US (or whereever you may live).

EDIT: While I like the Cathar expansion a lot, I mostly just like the beseiged city aspect that reduces the value of cities and increases the value of the farm. Allowing a knight to escape is good in that if you get a knight stuck in a city that can't be completed (usually for reasons not having to do with the beseiged tile), then you can get him back and and get him productive. But a besieged city can still be completed and to me is the easy way to allow a knight to escape! Finish the city, get some points, and get a meeple back. Why lose the points, even if reduced?

Thread: Die Katherer - rules and collector's item questions

First, I want to say that I read through the posts but was getting more confused. I wanted to put the answers I have for these questions in here.

1. When you have a besieged city, is removing a knight a move that can be done if you decide not to place a meeple or can you place a meeple somewhere and then remove a knight all in one turn? I read through the forums and the answered seemed mixed.

2. Can you remove someone else's knight from the besieged city or must it be your own?

3. Is it true that you can remove as many knights in your besieged city, but at least one must remain there?

4. Can you remove the big meeple first or do you have to remove the small ones first? I would probably think that this depends on the answer to Q3 because removing the small ones first will automatically leave you with the big one as the last meeple thus eliminating any chance of getting that back.

5. Is there any difference between the 2004 version of Die Katherer and the Almanac version in terms of look and artwork?

6. Since I hear that GQ won't be coming out does this make Die Katherer a rare item?

Thread: Re: Don't like Princess/Dragon? Convert it to Die Katharer..

The dragon laying siege to the city makes sense too... I think the princess tiles work better though because they match the 4 actual Katharer tiles a little better, and also the Princess (Soldier?) icon is actually *in* the city that it affects, whereas the Dragon icon is outside the city in most of the Dragon tiles. This makes it less clear which city the Dragon is affecting.

The easiest way to do a Cathars-style expansion with the P&D tiles is to choose four of the tiles that have a picture of a dragon on them as well as a city section. Assume that this tile indicates that a Dragon is attacking the city (rather than the Cathars) and score accordingly.

Tout de suite!

Thread: Don't like Princess/Dragon? Convert it to Die Katharer...

My wife and I are Carcassonne fiends and we don't like Carcassonne - The Princess & the Dragon. It's mainly the tedious tracking required for remembering the fairy point and remembering where the dragon has moved on its previous 5 turns that interferes with our enjoyment of the game. We play the RGG Big Box with the other 3 expansions and The River.

I'm interested in trying Die Katharer, but not willing to pay $25 USD for 4 tiles. So, I'm seriously considering converting 4 of the Princess tiles into Die Katherer tiles. They'd just have a little princess-in-a-castle (or is it a soldier?) icon in the city segments instead of the praying monk. Seems just as appropriate to me.

Here are the Princess tiles we have to work with:
http://boardgamegeek.com/image/67888

The 2 with the city on 2 edges are already made for you. The other 2 with only 1 city edge require modification. There is 1 Princess tile with 1 city edge - and 3 road edges. A green paint pen might erase the roads pretty well, or just one road segment for one of the Katharer tiles. A white paint pen could join the remaining road segments. A black ball point pen could add the road borders.

The last tile will be the trickiest, as there are no remaining 1-city-edge Princess tiles. There is one with 2 city segments, and an oval shaped field in the middle. The green paint pen could erase the undesired city areas, then maybe the border of the remaining city segment could be added some kind of way. Perhaps a green felt tip could add the speckled look to the new field areas.

I just wanted to share this idea, and see what others think.

Thread: Re: Two Tile Beseiged Cities

wait a minute. I just started a thread about this and I was told that a besieged 2-tile or small city is 0 points using the 1st edition rules.

The reason is that a besieged city reduced the value of the tile by -1. According to the 1st edition rules for small 2-tile cities, each tile is scored 1 point. That's why it would normally score a total of 2, but if it is besieged then it scores 0 because each tile is essentially reduced to nothing.

On logic is the same for larger cities, a simple 3-tile city would be worth 6 points because each tile is worth 2 points each. But if it is besieged then each tile's worth is reduced to 1 point each and that's why a 3-tile besieged city is worth a total of 3 points.

If there's a pennant that would also be reduced -1.

If a city has a catherdral and is besieged then each tile is worth 2 points + 1 point for the catherdral -1 point for being besieged. This sums to each tile being worth 2 points (the catherdral and cathars zero each other out). In the end, that city would be worth 6 points total.

Is that how it would go? That's how I understand it after hours of reading the rulebook and getting info from the members here.
