Thread: Re: More than 5?

It actually works with 7-8, but I think we meant to say "best" with around 5. Since each player will see 5 cards to begin with, and maybe draw through 3-4 more if they choose, the deck supports 6 players without a reshuffle. More than 8 would require 2 decks, but I'd only recommend a game of more than 8 if all the players are experienced... or if you are just looking for some rip-roarious chaos.

Look for Wench Double Trouble at GenCon!

Thread: More than 5?

Since this is a party game of sorts 5 people max players seems like an oddly low amount. Does this scale well to more people on it's own? Or do the cards run out doing that? Has anyone tried, say 7? At what point do you need a second deck? Does a second deck even work since you may end up with similar rules on the table?

Thanks, thinking of trying this for a New Year's Eve starter.

Thread: A Thinking Drunk's Game

Wench is a simple to learn but not so simple to win (requires dexterity and quick thinking) non-collectable card game. The premise is simple : be the first one to get rid of all your cards and be crowned the King of Beers (Yes, you Bud).

Every turn, a player may either :
a) Play a gold border card or
b) Draw a card

Since the game revolves around getting rid of all your cards, option (b) is really a last resort. The gold border cards are divided into 2 types : the stay in play (an icon of a beer on the table) and play it now/discard after use (a gears icon card). There can only be one 'stay in play' card per player and it stays in play throughout the game until the player exhanges the card in play with another in his hand. The 'play and discard' cards are played and discarded on the same turn.

Then, there is the blue border cards, which essentially are fast effect cards (or interrupts, in Magic terms). These cards can be played anytime as long as the conditions are met.

When a certain condition on the cards are met, the player can claim the reward (eg. discard a card from hand, give a card to another player). The fun begins when a player forgets to do something that is stated on the cards and is penalised (usually punished with drinking a pint of beer).

This game is great for social nights, especially where alcohol is available. The game is also small enough to carry around (only a pack of cards) in your back pocket.

And if you are tired of playing this game, the cards in this game also doubles as poker cards. There are 52 cards of four suits in the deck with 2 additional Joker cards, just like regular playing cards. How convenient, ya?

The gameplay is very simple, but for a beer and pretzels night, this game is perfect. Nothing beats a drunkard saluting (because of a card in play) and talking in slow motion (because of another card in play) while trying to keep his hands in the air (yet another card) just to get rid of a card in his hand while trying not to break any rules (which are set down by the cards in play).

So, let us recap: great drinking game, can be used as poker cards, small enough to carry around, very fun to watch and play. So, yeah, what are you waiting for?? Get one today and be the life of any party!! A word of caution: chicks dig this game.

Gameplay : ***** (Simple but ingenious mechanics)
Components : ***** (Nice art...)
Replayability : *** (For when you are drunk only)
Concept : **** (Unique and fun)
Overall : **** (Really good but not exceptional)

Thread: Re: Wench: A pretty drinking game

I just have one comment on this game. A self-described drinking game needs to be at least spill resistant if not spill proof. Unfortunately, these cards are printed on regular cardstock, not playing card stock, so are unlikely to survive the first spilled beverage, or being used as an accidental coaster.

The artwork is pretty though...

Thread: A Wench Review

This is a pretty good game as a whole. I wasn't sure when I got it, but when I presented it to my group, it just took off. It's really a lot of fun. The rules are simple, albeit perhaps a bit poorly written. There were a few items that were not clearly worded.

Cards consist of Flight Cards, Table Cards, and Turn Action Cards. You start with 5 cards in your hand, on your turn you have to play a brown border (table or turn action) card on the table in front of you. The rule listed on the card is now in affect. breaking the rule results in you gaining a card from whoever caught you breaking the rule. The flight cards are cards you keep in your hand, which contain rules on them as well, but only you know what they are. You can also give a card to somebody who breaks one of those rules as well. The objective is to get rid of all your cards.

As you can see it can get pretty wacky, cards getting passed back and forth all the time. Rules-wise, the game would be a fun family game, but the adult themed art and the idea that it's a drinking game (drinking not necessary) makes it more for a mature audience. The art is wery nice, by the way, and you can use it as a regular playing card deck, as suits are printed on it.

4 / 5

Thread: Wench: A pretty drinking game

Wench is a drinking game turned card game.
Instead of (or in addition to) taking a drink, you draw cards.

Players playing cards to impose rules (like "anyone putting their elbows on the table must draw a card" or "anyone speaking the name of a proper noun must draw a card").

Object: to get rid of your cards (in addition to playing them normally, some cards will give you the option to discard, if you can pass a test similar to the examples of imposed rules above).

It's extremely light, but that's what it intends to be.

The art is provocative, as you would expect, and quite good, albeit not up to Mr. Moore's usual standards.

If your friends aren't into the drinking/drawing game, the cards also come printed with standard deck markings (Ace through King in four suits), so you can play your favorite regular deck game with the pretty pictures.
