Thread: Best Quest in Return of the Witch Lord?

Following up on people's votes for best Quest in the main game (Thread Here), here is the list for Return of the Witch Lord:

Quest 1 - The Gate of Doom
Quest 2 - The Cold Halls
Quest 3 - The Silent Passages
Quest 4 - The Halls of Vision
Quest 5 - The Gate of Bellthor
Quest 6 - Halls of the Dead
Quest 7 - The Forgotten Legion
Quest 8 - The Forbidden Caverns
Quest 9 - The Last Gate
Quest 10 - The Court of the Witch Lord

Quest 3 still gets my #1 vote. Long corridors filled with a Death Mist. A number of times I've played this with people they've not been able to figure out what to do other than run. Only a few times by chance has someone decided to use the Spirit Blade on it... Tempest also works to kill it, but who would think of that!??? It's otherwise immune to damage and can inflict 1 damage each time it passes though the tile occupied by a Hero... I remember having a nice row of four Heroes on several occasions and just running through all of them. It also happened on a few occasions that it just ran back and forth across the same Hero 2-3 times (has 6 movement)... talk about enraging players

The Forbidden Caverns (Quest 8) is also pretty good for the same reason as Quest 5 in Kellar's Keep, Zargon gets to place 4 Monsters on the board each turn. Unfortunately they can only be undead, which are all fairly slow and the positions are fairly easy for the Heroes to avoid for the most part.

~N
Thread: Re: Alright expansion if only for the new quests.

I loved this one when I was a kid. I think it was the continuing story line aspect that got us hooked. It was much more of a coherent 'whole' than the base game.

Thread: Alright expansion if only for the new quests.

Return of the Witch Lord doesn't really add anything new to the Hero Quest Experience. Sure there are minor additions:

Alchemists shop - where you can buy potions before a quest.

New artifacts - only five and you have to cut them out...definitely lower quality than the base games artifact cards.

Iron/Wood doors - used to enter maps instead of the stairwell.

Coffins - can contain monsters/treasure/traps (or all three). Unfortunately they are only cardboard counters.

Death Mist - Cardboard counter that moves in the hallways of some adventures and chases heroes.

Revolving room - Kind of cool...square room tile that puts the heros out at a randome doorway (diceroll).

Anyway, aside from that there are no major gameplay changes (the big throne room tile doesn't do anything special). This isn't to say the game is no good, after all, it is definitely worth it for the new quests that follow an ongoing storyline. I didn't think the quests were quite as good as the original, but they had some nice touches and were thankfully a bit harder.

So get it if you can, but it probably doesn't deserve the high prices it sells for on ebay.
