Hey, I was playing this flash game just a few months ago, now it doesn't work for me. All I get is a white screen with some intro music.

Anyone know why? and how I could play again, it was great!

Edit-- I hit tab saw the word 'begin' appear, clicked that and I was on my way to alien combat.

Thread: Melee Combat question

From the rules:

Rules wrote:
In order to avoid the risk of Acid, it is sometimes wise for the Marines
to attempt Melee Combat with the Aliens. Melee Combat may be attempted
by any Marine who is adjacent to an Alien, and each attempt uses one
Action. The Marine rolls a die; if the number roll is less than or equal
to his Melee value, then he or she has Stunned the Alien. The Alien
immediately lets go of any Marine it has grabbed and must move one square
in whichever direction the Marine chooses. The Alien cannot end up in a
square with a Marine; if adjacent squares are filled with Marines, then
retreat the Alien an additional square. If the Alien loses its next Turn;
to indicate this place the Alien on its side. During the next Alien
Movement Phase, the Alien Counter is set upright again, but may not move
or attack.

How would an Alien lose it's next turn as a result of melee?

Thread: Re: Flash version of the game

I gotta brag! I just finished all three scenarios with only Burke MIA (and
I passed the chance to rescue him). 189 points, Queen dead. Screen grab if
you don't beleive me. Many hours of my life gone never to return (but oh what fun)! My tips:

1) Use the flame ground option as much as you can. With proper terrain you can
force Aliens to line up for an easy kill the next turn. The only time my
FT's are offensive weapons is in the Reactor Room or the alien is only 1
space away and acid spray will result otherwise.
2) Reactor room -- Flamethrowers, then machine gunners, then pistols then Hicks
batting cleanup.
3) Reactor room -- take the upper route over the well, keep Apone and 1 FT
in front, keep 1 FT behind. Kill everything you can when you can but keep
moving.
4) Operations -- Pistols, then Pulse Rifles, then Flamethrowers, Apone or
Hicks last
5) As soon as you can pull back, shove a fast character down the hall to cut door.
6) Move everyone else as soon as you can, Move FT's last and block the hallway
to extract some sweet revenge from the bugs with as many pulse rifles as
you can. Use lots of grenades since the FTs keep the aliens at least
four spaces away from the marines and the grenades have a damage range of
six. Consider always trying to use grenades at more than 8 spaces
but sometimes ya gotta take a risk (like when you can blow up 9 at a time when
they all crowd around a hall they can't enter because of FT's).
7) Send Ripley, Newt, pistol wielders followed by one pulse rifle down the ducts
as soon as possible. Move as fast as you can to get ahead of the aliens that
drop into the ducts.
8) You run out of aliens about turn 19 or so until turn 31 in the ops room
if you follow number 6. At that point, send everyone but Hicks and Apone
down the hall, FT first. Apone and Hicks will try to buy time for everyone
else. Remember the door lets aliens through 15 turns after you seal it.
If you keep from sealing it until the last second and all four aliens from 9
have dropped and been killed, it is an easy and unopposed stroll down the ducts
for Apone and Hicks.
9) Only four aliens attack in the ducts on turns 21, 25, 29 and 33 or so. They
pop in progressively farther down the ducts. If you move the team from 7
fast enough they get through before the alien drops and will attack the group
from 8. Let them drop in front of you and use Flame Ground to line the
alien up for an easy kill. Do this four times and your team walks out.
10) Aliens start popping in on Turn 31 in ops again. Using Hicks and Apone and
deliberately taking a short grenade wound if you can, it is possible to
kill all the Aliens again (just did it tonight)! If you can't manage that
(and I have only once), always keep 1 action point of the last moving
character to to seal the door if you must.
11) Rescue of Newt -- quarters are very tight. Aliens drop for three turns after
you enter a room. Hint -- move into a new room with just 1 AP and then get
out. Shoot anything that drops from outside the next few turns.
12) Quarters are tight and the queen used to just assassinate me every time I
met her cause I couldn't get clear shots. Now I use FT's (flame ground)
to control her movement and keep her away. Apone and Ripley can flame SIX
ground squares a turn, which is more than enough. If she cant get at you
she just stands there and you can plug away at your leisure till you kill her.
13) Did I mention that FT's as defensive weapons are the key to survival?
14) Most of the time you'll still lose people in random drops in the reactor room.
After that scenario though you should eventually know enough about drop
patterns and locations to always avoid losing people to attacks in the last
two scenarios.

What a great, nostalgic game!!!!

Thank you!

Hello!

The manual states:

"Melee Combat may be attempted by any Marine who is adjacent to an Alien"

"adjacent" means only the 4 squares adjacent to the sides of the square where the Marine is, or means all the 8 surrounding squares (counting also the 4 diagonally ones)?

I'm asking because the marines can move also diagonally ...

Oh ... I forgot another question (forgive me!) ... the marine's facing is not important right? he/she has always 360 degree view so he/she can fire to an alien behind ... or not?

Thanks in advance!

Roberto
Thread: Re: Flash version of the game

Yeah, the MG overkill is there. If two aliens are adjacent to each other, choose the alien with the lowest chance to hit.

When I play the default operations map, I put hicks last in order. Then I place him far on the right near the hallway, Newt goes above Burk and moves into his space when he moves out of it. Rippley goes beside Burk in that alcove. The rest I shove down on the left side, keeping them as far away from the alien wall as possible. I even place Gorman behind that corner block even though he can't see anything. He can't hit anything anyway. That way I can grenade the large waves of aliens that arrive.

When the marines can move down the hall, hicks moves at full speed to cut open the door. He will cut through on the same turn Burk hides behind the second door. Then I move Hicks to the location where he can seal the door and wait for as many of the other marines to make it down the hall.

Are those useful tips?

The flamer's ability to block movement can be really useful on the Operations map. But you have to get Frost or Drake through the reactor to use them there.

If you want tips to get past Operations, I can give you some.

And, the Aliens don't eat you. the truth is much worse than that
Thread: Re: Marines carrying incapacitated marines

As Jason said, the base game rules don't answer to your question; only in the EXPANSION there is a rule specifically for the INCAPACITATED marines carried by another marine when the QUEEN makes a type of attack called "RAM ATTACK".
The rule states:

"When the Queen Rams her way through a Marine's square, the Marine does
not have to move. The Marine's Counter simply remains in place, the Queen's attack is resolved, and her movement continues. If the Queen actually stops in a Marine's square, then the Marine's Counter is picked up and placed upright on the Queen portion of the Reference Card. If the Marine is carrying an Incapacitated Marine, then the Incapacitated Marine is automatically considered Dead, and the Card and Counter should be removed from the game."

About your question, because there are no provision in the rules, and thinking to the Aliens dimensions (normal Aliens ... not the Queen) that makes impossible for one of them to takes 2 marines at once (think to the movie ...), I suggest that the marine who is carrying the incapacitated one will leave the "hold" and the incapacitated marine will "fall" on the same square.

About the incapacitated marines, the rules state that he/she doesn't do anything for the rest of the scenario ... but, if you are interested, there are a couple of optional rules (not official) that state:

"An Incapacitated but not Grabbed Marine may, on his turn, make 1 attempt to blow himself up with a Hand Grenade, succeeding by rolling 6 or more on 1 die."

"A Marine carrying an Incapacitated Marine, add 3 to the firing die rolls (except for Hasty Shots – the advantage of the second pair of eyes over the shoulder helps in that case)."

What are the Hasty shots? they are specified in another not official optional rule:

"HASTY SHOTS
At the moment an Alien enters a Marine space, the Marine may squeeze off a point blank hasty shot. Aim is affected by the weight of the weapon.
1. Pistols use the Aim 2 line, Range 1 column.
2. Pulse rifle and Shotguns use the Aim 1 line, Range 2 column.
3. Flame units use the Aim 1 line, Range 3 column.
4. Machine guns use the Aim 1 line, Range 5 column.

The usual acid spray takes effect if the Alien is killed (unless it is by a Flame Unit)."

the final price including shipment+insurance was $350 and I paid 232 EURO.

Unfortunely, I'm not good at this type of work ... and I don't own a color printer.

You'll pay £180 for a game, but can't afford £30 for a new printer. That's some proper game-geekery!!

He even has the Xenos.

OneMonk Miniatures has a ton of great figures that are also perfect for this game. (Including some excellent Hybrid Aliens).

Here are 4 images I took while using the items mentioned above:

http://www.ebblesminiatures.com/forum/images/memberalbums/Fl...
http://www.ebblesminiatures.com/forum/images/memberalbums/Fl...
http://www.ebblesminiatures.com/forum/images/memberalbums/Fl...
http://www.ebblesminiatures.com/forum/images/memberalbums/Fl...

~Floyd
I foolishly cleaned out my closet between moves about 10 years, and this fine game was the sad victim. I got $35 from my not so FLGS for Aliens, Space Hulk, and Star Trek Combat Simulator. It was my fault for being such a sucker, though. It was so good for solitaire. I wish a new version would come.

Well done for pointing this site out Matthew. I have known about it for years and never thought of connecting it to the game, more fool me.

The designer is an absolute genius... I've seem some clever papercraft models, but his are truly brilliant, even to the 1:1 scale Pulse Rifle!!!

Hiya,

I came across this site http://aliens.humlak.cz/aliens/aliens_papirove_modely_gb.htm which has papercraft models that are perfect to use with expansions of the Aliens board game rules. So far there are the north airlock and landing pad models but when complete there will be the whole colony, atmosphere processor and derelict ship.

Also there are the apc, dropship, jordan tractor and some other colony vehicles.

They also go well with the 15mm Quick Reaction Force aliens figures although the scales are not exactly the same!

I've bulit the apc and service robot and I'm just about to finish the dropship.....

Adios,
Matt

Get over here, we've got a live one."
Cocooned colonist: "Kill me!" As a chestburster burrows through her chest, Dietrich flames it.
Hudson: "Holy F... What's that?"
Wierzbowski: "What's what? There's nothing man, don't get spooked, just
keep it together."
Hudson looking at his scanner: "No man, I'm telling you somethings in
here."
Apone: "Talk to me Hudson, what have you got?"
Hudson: "Movement can't lock up...uh...multiple signals...they're
closing...I got readings in front and behind...Look, I'm
telling you something's moving and it aint us!"

Suddenly! With a huge screech 4 aliens drop down around the marines, 2 in very close proximity.

TURN 1
Apone advances 1 square and toasts an alien 4 squares away. "Where did
they come from? They're all around us."
Crowe runs 2 spaces for the exit, Hicks passes him with 3 movement.
Hicks: "I'll take point."
Wierzbowski flames an alien that had moved adjacent to him, too scared
to say anything.
Frost moves 2 towards the exit. Vasquez and Drake each take a step in the right direction with Hudson bringing up the rear.
Dietrich: "What are these things."
Hudson: "I don't know let's just get out of here."

TURN 2
2 new aliens, one is a few squares from Hicks.

Apone: "You got him Hicks? As he moves up 3 squares towards the exit,
Crowe right behind him with 2 movement.
Hicks: "I got him" unloading his shotgun and recieving a satisfying
squeal.
As no other aliens are close the rest of the marines move towards the exit.

TURN 3
2 new aliens arrive towards the rear of the group.

Apone,Crowe,Hicks,Wierzbowski and Frost all move towards the exit.
Apone: "Keep movin, don't let them get near you."
Crowe: "Why don't you tell THEM that?" as he runs.
Hudson: "SHOOT IT! SHOOT IT!"
Vasquez: "I'm trying, shut the frak up! She shoots at an alien 4 squares
away, needing an 8 but rolling a 9.
Suddenly the alien explodes into pieces under the force of Drakes machine gun.
Drake: "I got your back Vasquez, get out of here."
Vasquez: "I'm not leaving without you."
Dietrich: "I could use a hand here!" as 2 aliens run towards her. She
flames 1 but misses the other.
Hudson takes a shot at an alien needing a zero and fails.
Hudson: "Someone give me a fraking weapon, I can't hit sheep with this.
Fraking state of the art firepower my butt."

TURN 4
2 more aliens drop behind the marines, one reaches and attacks
Dietrich. {an 8, in combat}

Apone,Crowe,Hicks and Frost continue to advance towards the exit.
Apone: "Marines, keep up or we'll leave your sorry butt's behind, let's
move."
Wierzbowski decides to move back 2 in order to assist the marines in the rear.
Apone: "Wierzbowski, get back here Gorram it!
Vasquez shoots over Hudsons shoulder to take out an alien which sprays acid in his direction.
Hudson: "Judas Priest, watch what your doing, that almost hit me."
Meanwhile Drake is charging at the alien wrestling with Dietrich. He slams the butt of his gun into the aliens head knocking it to the ground while he takes a step towards the exit.
Dietrich flames the stunned alien and also takes a step towards the exit. "Thanks Drake, I owe you one."
Hudson: "GET THE FRAK OUT OF THE WAY!" As he runs 2 squares past them.

TURN 5
2 aliens drop in front.

Apone moves 1 square and flames an alien "C'mon c'mon don't let up marines."
Crowe moves 2, Hicks moves 3 and the rest of the marines move 2 towards the exit.
Vasquez: "Hudson move it will ya?"
Hudson: "Don't worry about me baby, I've got moves you havn't seen yet."
Drake: "Less talking, more running."

TURN 6
2 more aliens in the front

Apone and Crowe move 2 squares.
Hicks: "Look out!" he shouts as he shoots an alien comming up on Apone and Crowe. he continues towards the exit 1 square.
The rest of the marines move 2 towards the exit.

TURN 7
A couple of bonus bugs. We've got movement in front and behind

Apone moves 1 space and flames an alien. "Where the frak are they all comming from?"
Crowe stays put sensing aliens ahead.
Hicks shoots an alien. "I don't know but there's no way the colonists could have survived this."
Wierzbowski and Frost move 2.
Vasquez: "They're so fast." as her gun rips apart another.
Hudson: "Just don't miss, I plan on getting out of here alive. Man I
was short too, 2 more weeks and I was out, 2 more weeks."
Drake: "Hudson, quit whinning and keep running!"
Drake,Dietrich and Hudson run 2.

TURN 8
Aliens drop in front and behind

Apone flames an alien and holds up. "The EEV is just around the corner,
let's move marines. GO! GO! GO!"
Crowe,Hicks,Wierzbowski and Frost move 2 towards the exit.
Vasquez: "I can't get a bead on it." she fires at and misses an alien.
Drake: "I got it, I got it." As his machine gun rips through it. "Man
that was close. Get your act together Vasquez or your not gonna
make it."
Dietrich and Hudson move 2.

TURN 9
Bad Drop. One on Crowe and 2 right next to the marines in front. The alien attacks Crowe grabbing him.

Crowe: "HELP ME! HELP ME! Somebody get this freaking thing off of me."
Apone flames a threatening alien but can't make it to Crowe.
Apone: "SHOOT IT! FROST, SHOOT IT!"
Crowe: "HICKS, HELP ME!"
Hicks: "Hang on Crowe." He blasts an alien that was almost upon him, flips his shotgun around in an attempt to beat the alien off Crowe. The alien shrugs off the blow.
Frost takes a couple of swings at it but the alien is already climbing to the cieling ductwork with it's prey. Crowes screams quickly fade away.
Vasquez,Drake, Dietrich and Hudson all run 2 spaces in an attempt to get to Crowe but they're just too far away.

TURN 10
An alien drops onto Vasquez and attacks. { It rolls an 8 with Vasquez's plus one for melee it's a 9, the alien is stunned}

Vasquez: "YEAH! YEAH! Don't mess with me you stinking frakin bug!"
Apone: "There's the EEV." taking 3 steps towards it.
Wierzbowski flames another alien approaching from the rear.
Frost and Vasquez move 2 towards the exit.
Drake shoots the alien that Vasques had stunned.
Dietrich and Hudson move 2.

TURN 11
Aliens drop behind Marines.

Apone exits into the EEV holding the door for Hicks who does the same.
Wierzbowski is sweating as another alien has managed to get adjacent to him. His flame starts to sputter as his fuel is running low. A scream starts to rise up in his throat as his flamer fails him.{ He only needed a seven, I thought sure I could burn the alien and move 1 towards the exit. Unfortunatly he rolled a 9 and an 8.}
Meanwhile Frost had moved directly in front of the EEV.
Vasquez dispatched another alien.
Drake realizing Wierzbowski was in trouble delivered a number of bullets into the unfortunate alien.
Wierzbowski's screams could be heard through the complex as the acid tore through his body armor burning his limbs and chest. Wounded he struggled on. Dietrich and Hudson are running for the exit.
Hudson: "HOLD THE DOOR, don't let it shut, hold it, hold it."

TURN 12
Mass of aliens behind the marines.

Wierzbowski is wounded with an alien 2 squares from him. He needs a 6 but rolls a 7. He silently craps his pants.
Frost runs through the exit.
Vasquez and Drake look at each other. They know the only chance they have is to leave Wierzbowski behind. They back 2 squares towards the exit.
Dietrich and Hudson exit.
Hudson: "I'm in! GO!GO!GO!"
Apone: "Sit down and shut up, we still got marines out there."

TURN 13
A bad drop close to the marines and the mass is getting closer.

An alien attacks Wierzbowski Incompacitating him and running away with it's prize.
Vasquez moves 2 towards the exit. 3 more steps and she's out.
Drake shoots an alien running towards him and backs 1 towards the exit.
Drake: " GO! VASQUEZ! GO!"

TURN 14
An alien drops right between Vasquez and the exit and the mass is on top of them.

Drake has an alien adjacent to him and one right behind that.
Vasquez: "I don't need this crap!" She blows away the alien behind her and deftly dodges the acid moving one step closer to the exit. Next turn she's out.
Drake: "DIE! DIE! DIE! You freaking bugs!" He lets loose on the alien in front of him and let's loose a scream as the acid washes over him incompacitating him. Unfortunatly that means the alien that was next to the one he shot can now reach Vasquez.

TURN 15
No aliens drop next to Vasquez but the one Drake failed to take out attacks her. The alien wounds and grabs Vasquez whose screams for help reverberate against the walls of the EEV sending chills through the surviving marines.

GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!

5 surviving marines mean this scenario ended in a draw. 23 dead aliens and technically no marines were killed, Crowe was grabbed, Vasquez was wounded and Drake and Wierzbowski were incompacitated.

With the expansion the marines can attempt a rescue. I just might try it.

Thread: Re: RIPLEY VS. THE QUEEN

We use the expansion and thus link the first two scenarios with those of the expansion, effectively skipping "Ripley VS the Queen". The last scenario in the expasion features Ripley (but also a band of marines) against the Queen (but also a LOT of Aliens)... on a BIG map... and that's quite fun!

Sorry if this isn't the kind of answer you were expecting.
Have fun!

Thread: Marines order of movement ... how do you play?

Hello!

New to the game ... reading the rules I found this sentence:

"the Players choose which order the Marines will move in. Once established, this order cannot be changed"

So, if I'm playing solitaire, after the scenario set-up, I have to decide the order of movement for the marines and this order will last for the whole game if I have understand the rules.

I'd like to know if you play as for the rules, or if you decide every turn how the marines will move; I think the only reason for the original rule is to simulate the confusion and the lack of time for "thinking" in a real situations like the ones described in the scenarios or like the ones seen in the movie (where, if you think, you are dead!).

Roberto
