A 30/40mm miniature would be large enough for detail and the cost wouldn't be that prohibitive. I'd love to see Deathclaws (non hairy version), Giant Scorps and even Fallout's take on Pinky and the Brain. good luck on it all

Thread: Re: Fallout on the net and post apocalyptic fiction

I've got a Fallout dvd collection in the "Size Matters" math trade right now!

Comes with fallout 1 and 2 plus tactics, bonus material including the Pen and Paper game, Fallout Warfare!

Also, I was very skeptical about Fallout 3. Why change the graphics, why change the POV, why fix it if it ain't broken.

But the screenshots so far do look pretty cool, and I'm sure the music, sounds, writing and humor and attention to detail will still be there.

Also, combat can be pulled out from 1st to third person, and combat can be stopped to aim, inventory etc...so yeah, i'd rather them keep it just like the other games, with better programming, updated graphics and bigger universe, but i really think part 3 will be fun and enjoyable.

Also, the book "The Road" is post apoc...great book, though not funny in the least.

Hi there, hope you're still checking this post.
By the way, I wonder why nobody has replied you earlier, since you have a nice list of Fallout inluences. It's small, sure, but I think it holds a certain value!

It's "Damnation Alley" (the movie. I'll get the book) that brought me here. It sure is campy and aged, but the Radscorpions and bugs prove that it was an influence (and having George Peppard and Jan Michael Vincent as both heroes is great!).

Mentioning "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" is a nice addition, too. I guess you played the game. If not, you should, it's a masterpiece! And it got me to read lots of Ellison's other stories - good stuff. By the way, you could've mentioned "A Boy and His Dog" (story and film), since it is absolutely post-apocalyptic. In fact, I think it deserves its place in your list more than "I Have No Mouth".

"I Have No Mouth", along with "The Outer Limits" episodes written by Ellison "Soldier" and "Devil with a Glass Hand" are more the origin of the "Terminator" movies, in my opinion. After all, Ellison went on trial with James Cameron about those two episodes and Terminator's plot. And he won, so it's true! And I think the supercomputer "AM" from "I Have No Mouth" is direct inspiration for Skynet. But I'm just speculating...

Feel free to share more info, in those times of speculations and fear over Fallout 3, it's valuable!

Guy Kergall

I really would be interested in helping flesh out a fallout minatures game ruleset. I've even gone so far as to modify the old ruoge trader ruleset to play fallout themed games. if their is any action on this whatsoever I will work on it. as others have stated, the fallout setting is is a personal favorite of mine.

I second what Kevin said. I loved F1 & F2 (especialy F2 as I'm from Nor Cal and know many of the settings. As a mac owner I couldn't play F3 but I love the whole setting (Post holocaust is my favorite setting {except for Lord of the Rings}). I look forward to it, a LOT.

Chris,
I would absolutely love a more fleshed out version.

The Fallout universe is 3rd only to Middle-earth and Star Wars in my book. Actually, I probably like it more than Star Wars.

I am eagerly awaiting Bethesda's Fallout 3. I hope they do as good a job as they did on Oblivion.

Do you have any say in the making of it?

Well , anarchy , I don't know if they are coming after me with a big hammer for posting the location of the files , and some images of the game,( in fact, I imagine this "copyright-protectors" more like advocates or something....not medieval warriors with hammers , swords and bows...but if they REALLY are that scary , I live in the country, near the river PO', so I can make a quick escape!!!!!!),but in the post I specify that the game is a gift-addon so it can be included in specific Geeklists like "available on the web" or similar subject.

P.S.: Now I've got to run ..... there's a strange man with an horned helmet and a crossbow at my door, and some knights with double-handed swords ........To the river, my friends!!!
Thread: Design Notes

(I had never thought to look this up, and I had no idea someone had already entered it into the database.)

Here are some nearly random thoughts about FOW:

Fallout Tactics was developed by an Australian company called MicroForte for Interplay. I was the senior game designer at Interplay overlooking MF's design efforts. I also did a bunch of little projects for FOT, like writing some marketing material and working with various people to QA the Fallout references. The idea for a game like Fallout Warfare had been kicked around earlier as we pitched a miniature game internally (we wanted to get some metal miniatures done as bonus items for Fallout 1).

When the need came up for a bonus disc item, I wrote this very quickly to go on a disc for people who pre-ordered Fallout Tactics. I used to play a lot of Warhammer, so that was an obvious influence, but I also tried to convert as much of the Fallout RPG system as possible.

Fallout 1 was designed to capture the spirit of paper and pencil role-playing. Fallout Tactics was designed as a tactical combat game using the Fallout universe, but I thought it would be neat to try and capture some of the miniature gaming vibe in it. Fallout Warfare was that taken to an extreme.

It suffered from a lack of playtest there at the end because at the last moment the silver date for the bonus disc was pushed up. It lost about two weeks at the end of the schedule that had been reserved for playtesting.

The artists at MicroForte took the pre-existing game models and gave us two special pictures (one for the front and one for the rear view). I used Canvas to lay out the various paper miniatures. I used Word to layout the rulebook since we didn't have time to send it to creative services to have them really lay it out properly.

This was really a low-budget effort. It felt really cheap to me at the time because we didn't get the time to really make it shine, but it turned out better than it had any right to.

Anywoo, if anyone has any questions about FOW, I'd be happy to help.

Thread: Fallout Warfare Officially Free

I've made a little search on the 'net to see if Fallout Warfare is free or not and the answer is yes. I've found a lot of fan sites and videogame sites that are actually including the rules files and counters files ( in the original PDF format). The package was released also by Black Isle ( publisher of the game) with the Fallout Bible , but since the company is now closed and there is not an official site , is now available from other locations.

Here ( rules only , and a little background):

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6490&highli...

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12234&highl...

Here ( all the original files , big size download FOWrules.zip and FOWcounters.zip):

http://www.3ddownloads.com/nma-fallout/misc/games

For French users here is a link to a fansite that has the files and also links
to the original official file download area from Black Isle ( now closed, but it shows that the game is really free):

http://www.roliste.com/actualite-details.jsp?id=2560

Now , if you have the original Fallout Tactics computer game , you can also get Warfare by downloading an official patch for the game that also adds a new mission "Springfield" ( yes ,the Simpsons town ) to the videogame to play.
The patch can be found in the download section of

http://www.nma-fallout.com

ENJOY!!!!!!

I'm a great fan of all Fallout universe games , long ago i've played the original rpgs from Interplay , and i really love the "Mad Max with humor" style.
Actually i'm playing the PS2 game and i remembered this miniature wargame from Fallout Tactics : it's really fast and funny. Now , i don't know if the game is legally free , but on a lot of sites in the internet, like NO MUTANTS ALLOWED and DUCK AND COVER, can be found all the original material ( it was never relesed in a box , so the original form is in PDF files): rules , counters and sheets. It can be also played like Car Wars , because the rules for vehicles are included.Originally created by Chris Taylor , designer of the Fallot Tactics videogame.

P.s. : i've included a link to a website with all the files in the link section and , if you like the post apocalyptic/wasteland/survival setting ( or simply need some background for adventures and scenarios), here are some suggested movies ( other than the obvious Mad Max) and books:

Movies:

1- Damnation alley (from the novel by Zelazny)
2- The Crazies by George Romero (viral infection)
3- Living dead movies by George romero ( can't wait for Land of the Dead!!)
4- Escape from NY by Carpenter (survival setting is confined only in NY or LA)
5- Escape from LA by Carpenter
6- 28 Days Later by Boyle (viral infection)
7- Return of the living Dead by O'bannon (viral infection and nuclear weapons)

Books:

1- The Stand by Stephen King
2- Damnation alley by Roger Zelazny
3- Devil Car by Roger Zelazny (short story)
4- Last of the wild ones by Roger Zelazny (short story)
5- I have no mouth , and i must scream by Harlan Ellison (short story)
6- I am legend by Richard Matheson

.......

Fell free to add suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!
