Thread: First game of Turtle Twiddle

I played this game with my 3 and a half year old nephew on New Years day. We both enjoyed the game. The biggest debate seemed to be which color turtle he wanted. After the big debate was solved we proceded with the game.

Now, I have to admit that I have only glanced at the rules and basically just adapted what I read to our situation.

We took turns drawing the animal tiles. This became the goal that we were aiming for that round. Whoever got closest without going past that animal goal won that tile. My nephew was a natural and easily got most of them. Occassionally I would try so that he didn't win them all.

I think the hardest part for him was to only move his turtle once if it didn't go like he wanted it to. I would say 75% of the time he had a great roll and didn't need to do anything. When his fingers would slip or if it just didn't go far enough he would move it a second time. I would remind him to only go once. He's young but I'm working politely working with him on playing by the rules.

I had him use track one because I believe it was track two where the pieces of the game board seem to come together. In my tests the day before on the carpet the turtle in lane two would slow down because of the way the board is put together. There are more bumps on that lane when played on the carept.

We did play this game on the table. I'm looking into possible covering the game with plexiglass for the future.

My nephew loved the cute animals. He would excitedly announce which animal it was on the tile when we would turn one over. He had fun pointing out where the animal was on the side. Probably the toughest part for him was to figure out which turtle was closest to the goal. I would always ask him first and then correct him if he was wrong. I'm not sure if he understood what I meant by the word closest or not.

We enjoyed this game. I would rate it an 8 so far. I'll have to see if it moves up or down a little bit after more play. I believe we played this game three times using all nine animal tiles with just two players.
