The new art is great, One thing though. Could you have the card backs filled in. In the PDF there are gaps. If the gaps were filled in It would allow people to print these files on printers that do not get 100% straight alignment.

I just printed and laminated the cards and they look great! All I have to do now is cut them out and clip the corners. I did have to reorganize the PDF's so they would print front to back on my fancy printer at work. I used a PDF editor to put the cards front - back - front - back etc. That way the printer automatically printed the cards properly. I also cropped the rule book so that I could make a booklet with the pages in the proper order on 5.5" x 8" paper (a normal sized pice folded in half). Our copier automatically folds and staples booklets too, but as the files were the booklet would have printed in the wrong order.

Anyways it looks fantastic. Congratulations on a fine looking project.

At last, IOD2 has a facelift and an upgrade to ver 1.1 !!

Change from ver 1.0 to ver 1.1 (29 Oct 08):
- all the design/artworks
- change the Bandit Lair and Trapped Gnome Locations.

I have tried to upload all the files in IOD site, but (IMHO) there are problems with Geocities (finding a way to fix it), so I uploaded all IOD2 ver 1.1 files in IOD Yahoo Groups (in Files section).

PS: I will ask Hozo to upgrade the IOD2 Flash game to Ver 1.1, hope he says ok
Edit: can't reach Hozo, his mail has changed. What I'm getting at is that if the backs don't have white corners etc you can trim the pasted up cards and cut the corners based on the fronts and you're less likely to get white bits showing on the backs.

Well I know what I mean anyway ......

I've used this approach on cards I've done elsewhere on geek and it works well.

Chris

Very very nice!

I am maybe too wanting to ask this, but I will:

WOuld it be possible to lay the cards in a way, so that the front and back would be on the same page - maybe two columns/two columns instead of four columns of only front/backs? And after printing you would be able to fold the paper in half, glue the insides (blanks of the front and back together) and cut it out as a single card?

It would require more sheets, but maybe a less heavy paper. And no aligning needed in-printer (if you cannot do it precisely).

Home printers never line up completely straight, it is best to leave a margin at the edge of cards that doesn't get printed on.

Good to keep in mind. The way the redesign of Dungeon of D was done was perfect. Having everything line up when you do double sided printing saves tons of time. All I had to do was laminate and cut out the cards. No glueing! Your samples would seem to neccessitate folding and glueing. It is also very hard to get the backs of the cards to line up with the front if you keep it in this format.

Quick answer, you can't. OK then, I have to upload it somewhere first. Someone in IOD Group suggest me to upload in the User Image Gallery... good idea!

That's some good art work up on the IOD2 bit; By the way, I forget to add that the project was abandoned unfinished(the last time I made contact with Peter was at the beginning of 2007). Everything that has already done are shown in this thread, so it's quite far from finish(Peter's works are great, though). That's why I want someone (if any) to reworked IOD2 components(with images from the net,it's quicker)...

Cheers!

Jack

Thread: A story about IOD2 reworked components, and a request...

A few years ago, I and Peter Szabo Gabor made an agreement to try to offer IOD2 to publishers (and Peter made the cards with original arts, it's great!). You can see some of his works for IOD2 in his site HERE: click Galery on the left, then click CCG Artwork on the left, then click Island of D 2 on the middle screen.

In fact, one card is ready for the sample (see the Temple HERE).
A question: how can I show an image not hosted inside BGG? (I have searched the FAQ, but BGG can only show image that is inside BGG).

But after a few months (almost a year I think), this project was abandoned (since no good reply from the publishers).

And now, as DoD has already got reworked components (see HERE)...
is there someone who can make the reworked IOD2 components? I know this is a lot of work... (well, at least not as much as DoD)
PS: no,not really have to use original images...(just like DoD is okay)

Thanks...

Jack

Isn't there supposed to be a You Win card to print out and go on the other side of the You Lose card? I've played the online version a lot and finally decide to print up and make my own copy tonight. I was wondering where the card was supposed to be. It is alluded to in the instructions, but I couldn't find it in any of the card files. Is there one floating around somewhere? If so, it would be great if you could post it. Maybe by itself so I don't have to print up a whole full page over again. Thanks.

-Legend

Thread: Man I lose... a lot.

I haven't won yet, so I'm completely lame. It's super tough. So I thought I'd document a loss. and add a little story. And it's really easy to play the flash And somehow, it decided to be a hallucinagenic story. Go fig.

INTRODUCTION:
The Village of Dawn is in grave danger! Not only two of the village's special items were stolen, but the great and wise Village Elder of Dawn has been missing for months without a trace! Soon after, Goblics and Orcs have appeared and begun terrorizing the village. Even worse are the bandits, for it is said that their mysterious leader is invincible. He can heal his wounds in seconds!

A brave local spy was able to return with vital yet horrifying information. In two weeks the bandits will attack with full force to completely destroy the Village of Dawn! In these desparate hours the Guildmaster of Dawn had no choice but to send a messenger for help to the nearby village of Dew.

They suffered and they prayed. And now, in their most critical moment, YOU are their answer. YOU are the hero who saved the island by defeating the Black Knight a year ago. By the time you arrive at the village of DAWN, you have only 8 days left until the bandits invade. After gathering some information while eating breakfast with the Guildmaster, you start your adventure to save Dawn.

The MISSION:
Find the High Priest in the Temple and have him create a Dispel Potion. Then find the Bandit Lair and defeat the mysterious Bandit Leader in his own turf, but you must hurry! Time is running out!!

Day 1:

I arrived in the Village of Dawn and decided to rest up before embarking on the quest to destroy the bandits. I would need gold, so I kept things that might attract them... fresh meat, shiny objects, and hope. I tried to keep small items that might help me in the challenges to come. Unfortunately, the town could offer me no help... I could buy a dagger, but had spent my money getting here.

I travelled East and found exactly what I was looking for. A mighty Giant came upon me, with horns adorning his head. Luckily I had found a nice tree branch, set it on fire, and took the orc down without any loss of Hit Points. (Str 6 vs 4 Attack card, +1 card, +3 gold)

I came upon a Hungry Hermit. I tried to trick him by telling him he needed more wood for his fire. But he would not leave his post, and recommended that I throw my burning branch on it if I was so concerned. He talked about the proper way to make fires, and it hurt my head. (Used an Orange 4, drew a 1, challenge failed, -1 HP, +1 card). I decided that tricking him wouldn't be advantageous, so I headed North.

Here is where I found the Bandit's Lair! It was deserted at the moment. I marked it on my map and headed West. Here lay a clear pool, whose waters were so very blue. I sat for a spell, but there was still much of the day left. So I headed North to see what await me there.

My path was blocked by an ugly light skinned troll. It was as dumb as it was strong. He was easily defeated by pushing him into the dark cave. Something in there ate him and spit out his carcass. Along with 2 gold. The cave looked dangerous, and I was not yet ready to explore it.

The day was nearly done. I headed south to the pool to spend the night. It glowed a pale blue in the moonlight. I felt safe resting there, and warm.

Day 2:

I travelled West from the Pool and encountered another Giant! The woods have been infested lately. Luckily, monsters are very dumb and fall for such simple tricks. It launched its great hamfist down towards me. I dashed between its legs and made death noises. Cut took my little knife and cut a hole in its purse, taking its 3 golds. When it liftd its fist, it thought it hit me so hard that I was pounded so flat it couldn't see me. He never saw the blow that would strike him dead. (6 Str vs 4 attack card, +1 card +3 gold.)

Here was a hut. I approached it, but an eerie feeling made me stop. That and the floating eyeball wasn't the most welcoming sign. I decided to return here later when I was better equipped.

As I travelled South, the spirits were whispering their deaths to me. My blood ran cold, and I knew I must leave this place as quickly as possible. The graves of the dead seems to fade in and out of view, revealing their pits of death. I put my ears and ran quickly, a burst of urgency providing the stamina I needed to escape. (Played a 4 speed card, +1 card)

I continued the journey South. Yet another Giant! But I knew this one was to much for me. "Look in the sky! The dragons! They return! Run for your lives!" I screamed and pointed to the sky. The giant looked up, and I had run for the hills. (-1 card)

A Dwarven Training House came into view as I was sprinting. I was very weary (4 hps). The dwarves had been practicing all day. They saw I was weary, but still forced me to train with them. "Earn our respect, young human." I trained with them (swapped a 1-6/2 and a 1-6/3 card). At the end of the training, I explained my mission. For a large donation of 7 gold, I was allowed to take the Magical Dwarven Axe to aid in my battles.

I wanted to rest, but this was not a place for humans to lay their heads. So I travelled West. A cliff lay before me, begging to be climbed. But I was in no condition to do such a thing. I needed to rest. Dawn was just a short trip North, and I had one last gold to buy a stay at the Inn.

Day 3:

I headed South to the Cliff. I tried to use a rope to climb the cliff, but the rope was too frayed to be any use. (4 Speed card, +1 card, but a failed attempt.) It looked bleak, so I travelled South to see what fate would bring.

A beautiful fountain was before me. "Only if you have a good heart and bring me a brand new flask may you take some of this pure water." Well, that's just great. No money to buy a flask and no monsters to kill. I travelled East cursing my fortune. Maybe I didn't need that Axe after all.

There was a light skinned troll that answered my prayers! It snarled at me. I grabbed the axe and took a swipe! (3 attack card + Axe vs its 5 strength, success!) I finally got a small bit of gold - 2 coins were just going to have to last me. I thought I heard something in the distance. I travelled a bit, and saw this little gnome staked in the ground with some death machine precariously placed to run over him. Who am I to judge? He must have committed some foul crime. I thought it best not to get myself involved in such affairs and headed north, hearing its death screams behind me.

Here I found the High Temple with the Priest I had been looking for. He informed me that I needed a Magic Seed, a Red Plant, a Flask of Pure Water, an Empty Flask, and a blood of a virgin if you can get it. Well, I knew where they all were. Except the virgin part. The priest looked nervously at me, rubbed his nose a few times and said sheepishly, "Do you like to party? Do you have any fairy dust? I can pay for party favors." I shook my head no, but said I'd be sure to deliver if I happened to score.

He pointed to the East and said, "I'd bet you find a crack den, uh, fairy ring over there! I can't go there any more, they know who I am. Uh... just be quick about it... and be careful! Those mushrooms break easily!" Oh whatever. I travelled to the East to give this guy his fix. Doesn't everybody need performance enhancing drugs at some point in their life?

I was expecting a fairy ring, not a ring of hippy dippy trippy fairies. But here they were frollicking around, hand in hand, spinning themselves sick. Carefully, I nipped a mushroom and headed back West.

This day wore me out. (HP = 1!) I handed the Priest the mushroom. He gave me a gold. He then took out a small mirror and a razor, cut it into lines, wrapped a leaf into a roll, and began to snort the dust. Some of it launched into the air and made me feel good... really good. I fell asleep on the couch (+6 cards, 7 max today). It wasn't very comfortable, but it would do in a pinch.

Day 4:

I informed the High Priest that I would be heading back East. He got excited and gave me these pieces of paper with little prayers on them. "They'll help you get in a fight. I don't want my supplier getting jacked in the woods." I thanked him, and headed back to the Fairy Ring. Those things would come in handy!

A giant wandered into the Fairy Ring like vulture swoop down on carrion. The fairies were still spinning, but away. "Hey, Giant!" I called. "Have you snorted that dust yet. Here, use this!" I handed him one of the Priests prayer slips. The Giant rolled it up, leaned over, and took a snort. He exploded in multicolored glitter. The fairies all danced through this shimmery cloud, while I nipped two of their mushrooms and three gold from their cashbox. (Two Blue Speed cards and 2 successes!)

I travelled West to the temple, but decided to take the long way around it. I wasn't ready to deliver the goods. I needed to get to the town to make a lot of purchases. So I kept going West to the Cliff. I ran into another Giant. With the axe and the prayer slip, the Giant was quickly destroyed. (4 Fight card, at 4 HP's and 9 gold.) Suddenly, I was flush with cash, but inadequately equipped for the trials to come. I travelled North to the town of Dawn to get supplied.

I bought 2 daggers, 2 flasks, 2 apples and decided it was time to recover some of the objects that were missing. I travelled North to that beautiful pool to get some much needed rest. (+6 cards, 8 HP's)

Day 5:

Man, getting high really makes the time go quick. 4 days of getting prepared, and I still feel behind. I travelled West to Baga's Hut, and was met with another light skinned troll. (Str 5.) With the Dwarven axe, I felt a healthy power surge and lopped off its head in one shot.

I approached the door of this hut. That eerie feeling came across me again, and this time, I knew what I had to do. I pulled out a Fairy Mushroom, chopping it up in bits, and snorted it. The world started swirling. A crystal grew up from the ground, the eye blinked at me, the hut grew frog legs. All of this would have freaked me out, except I was feeling REALLY good. The Eye spoke.

EYE: "What walks on four legs in the morning, two by day, and 3 by night?"
ME: "Dude! It talks!"
EYE: "Correct! You may pass!"
ME: "Sweet!"

Upon entering the hut, an overly tanned woman in a hood looked up from her cauldron. She muttered some unintelligle words, and green goo shot up from the iron pot and shot its way towards me. It his me square in the chest and burned me. "Yo! That hurts! Me angry!" With the Axe in one hand, dagger in the other, I lopped off both her hands.

"Alright, you win! Just take the ring and go away! I don't need it anymore!" Well obviously, you don't have any more hands! Then I saw her hands crawling back towards her. Oh man, bad trip. I think I gotta lay off the shrooms. I headed back to the pool, and man, I was in pain. (4 HP's.)

I couldn't resist these tasty apples, in hopes that something good would come out of it. (+2 cards) Well, they made me feel better, but nothing really good came out of it. But I felt good enough to go to Dawn and try to buy some more provisions. So I headed South.

The store loves me. They obviously don't care that they'll be burned to the ground in a few days. A dagger and 2 apples were purchased. I decided it was time to visit that hungry hermit. I headed East. I handed the Hermit an apple, and he gladly gave me a green plant. I headed West to the Village of Dawn, bought another apple, because they're quite useful, and stayed at the Inn. (1 gold left!)

I encountered a Goblin (str 4) and thought it was cute. Now that I've been stocking up, I showed him the Dwarven Axe and its pulsing power. He dropped his gold as he turned to run. "Come back any time!" (I used a 1 attack card with the Axe.)

Here in the graveyard, the voices were whispering again. But the green plant became warm in my pack. I grabbed it, and felt compelled to wrap it into a laurel and placed it on my head. As it fell over my ears, the voices of the dead suddenly turned into the voice of a beautiful woman. "Traveller, meditate here by my grave. Free me of my accursed existance!"

I wandered towards the voice and came upon a headstone with a statuette of a virgin. I meditated at her grave, and her apparition appeared before me. She leaned in close and kissed me. As she pulled away, the green plant scratched her... her etherial essence showered me. "My blood flows into this plant, and it shall free me so that I may finally rest! May the blood of a virgin aid your quest!" Huh, guess that Priest was right. (Used a speed card, success, green plant becomes a red plant.)

I headed South to visit the Dwarves. I gave them a report on how the trip was going on my way to the cliff. Of course, a goblin decided to get in my way, but those things are just annoying. And this one didn't have any gold. *Sigh.*

This time I was very prepared for the cliff. It was simple to climb, once I could plan a bit better. I got the magic seed. A swallow witnessed this and decided seeds would be great for dinner. It swooped down, and I instinctively took a step back to avoid it. I never thought about the climb down. Oops. Ow. (3 Hp's left)

Well, that's what Apples are for, right? I ate two and felt much better. I still needed pure water, so I headed South to go get some.
I got a flask... I debated on getting more, but I just felt like there wouldn't be enough time... or money... for me to get everything done. And I had everything I needed, so I better get that Dispel Potion made.

I headed East to the scene of the Gnominator. One of those white trolls was setting up for the next show. And decided it should be a Huminator. Thankfully, I've been really mighty lately, so it didn't slow me down any. And I got 2 gold from this little encounter. It was a bit bloody, so it makes me think it may have been the Gnome's. Oh well, we all need a little fortune these days. Heh. Get it? Little? Gnome's gold? Okay, I'm not that funny.

Back at the temple, I decided to make the potion. The high priest went to the altar, mixed the items in this scrying pool basin. After an hour, it was done. He dipped a fresh flask into the mixture, and handed the Dispel Potion to me. "You got any favors, you know, it's like 4:20 or something, right?" I thought about the mushroom hiding in my back. I furrowed my brow, not sure what to say. A couple of plans went through my head.

In my head my thoughts were running.. "I need 2 for apples, and that leaves 1. I don't really need any more gold than that, but then I'm kinda stuck. It's day 6, I still need some stylish boots, and have to rest before the last battle."

The High Priest looked up from a small scrying pool on the altar. "It's in your pack! Dude, you're totally holding out on me! Give it up! Give it up!" Reluctantly, I pulled it out of my pack and handed it to him. "You can't have any!!!" His face contorted, and suddenly I was in the air, falling, and landed in the center of Dawn. OW!!! Bastard. Didn't even pay me for that shroom. I guess I'm not a very good dealer.

I bought 2 Apples and a night at the Inn. No more gold.

Day 7:

I travelled North to the Clear pool, on my way to that Dark Cave. It seems that the Cave is a breeding ground for Giants. No more fear. It's do or die. I'm outta time! There's no creature that can harm me anymore! (Well, except maybe an immortal bandit, but we'll see.) At least I got 3 gold!

The cave was dark and cold. A raving half-orc, half-goblin creature in a tattered loin cloth attacked me. Before I could wonder why such a creature felt the need for modesty, my dagger flew and the axe cleaved. The creature was struck dead. I tried to find where my dagger had gone (those things are expensive you know), found a trap door. Unfortunately, it was open and I fell into a makeshift dungeon.

There was a light here and an ugly gorilla in chains who looked hungry. Rather than chancing it speaking my language and a lecture on the proper kidnapping of hairy apes, or maybe even trying to eat me, I handed it one of the red apples. The ape ate it greedily. Each bite it took, it grew smaller and smaller, hair slowly retracting, until there was a 16 year old girl in front of me.

Girl: "Thank you for saving me! I was so foolish to go wandering into that Fairy Circle by myself. Daddy would be so mad!"

Me: "Uh, no problem. Hey, why are you rubbing against my manly blond body?"

Girl: "I'm going to teleport us back to the Village of Dawn. I've been staying there to avoid my Dad."

Me: "You teleport? Is your dad the High Priest?"

Girl: "Yup! Here we go."

I heard her say some strange words, and suddenly we were in the Village of Dawn. On the ground thankfully. The girl peeled herself slowly away from me, letting her lithe little body graze my lack of armored flesh. She motioned me towards a small house next to the Inn. I followed her in, and she shut the door behind me. "Wanna come up to my room?"

Her arms were still a bit hairy, as it looked like the transformation wasn't quite complete. I shuddered... here was a young beautiful girl throwing herself at me, but she may have more grass on the field than I want to see. And her dad is dusting, who knows how that would go. Still, a few mushrooms, and he'd probably be thanking me. I gazed around the room, searching for an answer, and before I knew it, I was in her room.

She pulled me to the bed, lay down and pulled me on top of her. Instincts took over. I grabbed her wrists and stretched them over her head, making her feel helpless. Her bosom heaved, and she began to pseudo struggle, kicking her legs around and making grunting noises. I leaned in close to kiss her when the door swung open.

"There she is," a guardman shouted. "It's okay, it seems our hero seems to have caught her! And yes, she's wearing the stolen Elf Boots!" A man dressed in the Captain of the Guard uniform appeared. "Oh thank goodness you saved our boots, Hero!"

The girl stopped struggling and frowned. "uh, these boots? They weren't stolen. I, ah, borrowed them for the spring virgin rites. Oh please don't tell my Daddy! I'll do anything if you don't tell him. You hear me, anything."

The Captain of the Guard thanked and informed me that he could handle the rest. The boots were removed from the girl and handed to me. "You'll need these, if you want to have even a small chance of succeeding. Oh, and here's a $1 coupon for our village merchant. Thanks again for stopping this thief." He shoved me out of the bedroom and closed the door.

Heading to the store, I bought 2 empty flasks, a dagger, another apple, and then I headed North towards to take a cold shower at the Pool. I had only one chance to defeat the bandit. I slept fitfully that night, in hopes that the gods would grant me some strength to actually succeed instead of failing. It just seems impossible to defeat an invincible bandit.

Looking at my provisions, I knew victory would be only granted by some warped twist of fate. I'd probably be better snorting dust and just giving up. Still, I headed East to the bandit's camp. I plowed my way through a lowly goblin and game across one of those Orclins, uh, the Goblins of Copywright avoidance, and took a swing at him. A miss.

"Excuse me, one second." I ate two apples and tried again. Success! After this Goblorc, I noticed a bandit chasing me. Why I don't just cleave him in twain is beyond me. So I ran. I ran so far away! I ran over over some caltrops. (-1 HP) I ran over some spikes. (-1 HP) I ran over some hot coals. (-1 HP) I decided to run... away. Nothing's worth this much agony!

The spy was right. Early in the morning the next day, hundreds of bandits attacked the Village of Dawn. The villagers defended their home with everything they had, but the Bandit Leader's magical ability is too much. He always recovers his wounds in seconds! And slowly, the villagers are forced to abandon their relatives, their belongings, thier homes, and even their lives.

As I watched this carnage, I pulled one of the bandits aside. "Ho ho ho, easy there! I'm not here to stop you! I just wanted to let you know that there's this village of Dew that's about 9 days away from here. You should probably hit there next. I hear they got great stuff to loot." He thanked me, and went on his bandit way.

If I left now, I could be in Dew before the day ended. And then have 8 days to try and stop the bandits and get paid. At least now I have these nice boots, a nice ring, a Dwarven axe and no village to really remember that they owned such things. Hey, a guy's gotta make a living.

---

What's the moral here?

1.) If you want someone to save your town, give them gold and equip them.
2.) Don't do drugs. Once you do, you'll have a hard time stopping.
3.) Sex with 16 year olds may seem like a good idea, but it rarely works out the way you want to.

Thread: A very good fantasy adventure game

It is easy to print the cards and read the rules (just 5 pages). It is a very good adventure game. It reminds me some old computer adventure games, like King's Quest.

It is expandable game. If you change the prologue and the epilogue and you create a new final Location card needing the three items needed to enter the Location, you could have a new adventure.
