Thread: Re: How is this different enough to warrant its own database entry?

I could've sworn I heard someone mention that this has somewhat different rules. Probably not.

wdgrant wrote:
It is no different than the more than 50 entries found when you search for Monopoly. It makes it easier to put in wishlist and trade items if listed separately. Otherwise, I could see your point of one entry with just a list of the variants.true at that. There is no way to comment directly for the wishlist field. You could put in a general comment about looking for this specific theme, but there's no garuantee that people will read it. Trade In Condition is also only used if you're doing trades and not receiving these as gifts or from purchasing.

The 50 entries of Monopoly actually are a mistake. It really is supposed to be strictly if the rules are different. It's just that it's too much of a hassle for them to combine everything at this point.

Seriously. This one should be merged with Settlers of Catan: Bionic Commando Edition.

Same for Settlers of Catan: Blaster Master Edition. Did they think we wouldn't notice?

^^

The heck with Settlers of Catan: Rockman edition. Settlers Of Catan, the US version by Mayfair isn't doing too well either. While it's more popular than ever, it's still being dwarfed by the more heavily marketed American board games

Thread: Looking for scans of the game

By scans, I mean all the images I could use in the creation of my own homemade game.

I mean, if I can't even find it on eBay, I may as well just look into creating it myself at home.

Anyway, I'll need scans of the:

* Development Cards (with a translation guide)
* Rulebook (with a translation guide)
* Tiles
* other necessary stuff

Have a friend go to Japan. Other than that, I'd say your chances of seeing it are really really low. It's just not the kind of thing that'll do well in the U.S.

Thread: It's Rockman, it's Settlers!

A friend recently went to Japan, and at my request, tracked down a copy of Rockman Settlers of Catan. I'll post some pictures later, but first let me review the game itself.

First off, it's straight Settlers of Catan. I'm not fluent in Japanese, but as far as I can tell, there are no rules changes, special Rockman stuff, etc. Everything is there, not simplified at all.

The components are very nice. Each of the four player colors has a different face molded onto the plastic, and all the individual resource cards and soldier cards have unique pictures. The tiles are nice and large, and made of a stiff plastic-like paper. It's worth the price just to have a colorful set of Settlers.

Pretty much everything is just renamed, but I think it's done better than, say, versions of Monopoly. I'm not too familiar with the Rockman Battle Network series, but it's something like robots fighting for control of computer networks, using chips to power up, and fighting other bots.

Resources become Battle Chips, and settlements and cites are Nodes. Link up Nodes to draw more Battle Chips, and use your Chips to fight your way to new Nodes. Fight robots to prove your strength (i.e., play Soldier cards to move the Robber and get the largest army). First to ten points wins!

In summary, there are no surprises here. This is a very nice, well-done retheming of Settlers of Catan. The rules are absolutely unchanged. That's good for me - this is my first copy of Settlers - but if you were looking for some crazy new Rockman rules, that's not what this game is about.
