Thread: Re: Distribute or publish in the US?

If you're interested, you may want to see if larger stores are stocking it in Quebec, such as Renaud-Bray, Archambault or GGC. Since this is a Francophone province, there's a huge community of Asterix and Obelix readers that may have translated into French game stores here carrying the game.

Much cheaper than shipping from Europe, anyway.

EDIT:
None of the big three seem to carry it, alas. Nor does Le Valet d'Coeur, Montréal's best games shop. Sorry!

Well guys I broke down and ordered it http://www.ludibay.net. They had some other games I wanted and couldn't get here. The shipping wasn't so bad and I supported a BGG user: titalight. It's not the best two player, but I think it captures the spirit of the comic. Good luck.

I did my best to translate the manual. I do not speak German, used Babelfish and other web sites to do the translating. Then I reworded the Babel-ish into readable English. I just submitted what I have so far. If/when it gets approved feel free to comment on what should be rewritten.

But you do not get an extra turn for a row (or column) which has less than 4 cards.

Ah - ok, thanks for that. It was not clear in the summary that I had seen.

Btw, it is no interpretation

Sorry I was not questioning your translation but trying to clarify your use of the word row in your explanation. Being pedantic a row is only horizontal, a column vertical. I was just checking my personal understanding of what you had written and not your translation from the German !

Thanks for your help - it's much appreciated.
It does not matter if it is a row or a column. Sorry for confusing you.

You are right, with less cards it is easier to beat all cards in a row or column. But you do not get an extra turn for a row (or column) which has less than 4 cards.

Btw, it is no interpretation. These are the offical rules as we have edited the game for Kosmos.

Best,

Wolfgang Lüdtke / TM-Spiele

1. When you have beaten a complete row of 4 cards you can choose any row to go on. You replenish the cards on the table only after you have ended your turn.

Could you clarify - when you say row, you mean row or column.

That is to say that your interpretation of row is not only left/right but also up/down ?

So I can run along a row of four. Come down a column which is now three and then cut along another row of three ? So the more I push my luck the easier it (theoretically) becomes ?

Thanks for clearing up the other points !

The game ends after revealing the 5th dorffeast card. No matter if the legionnaires deck is exhausted before.

3. You can do this only at the beginning of your turn before you turn over the first card in the row chosen.

Best regards,

Wolfgang Lüdtke / TM-Spiele

It would be great if someone could post the rules in English as I find the short description leaves some points uncovered.
I picked the game up in Germany last week and it's a lot of fun for my children but we are having to invent house rules to close the gaps.

Perhaps someone can help:

I have just completed a row and replenished to five cards. I want to keep Roman bashing. If I choose a column it will now only have three face down cards - is it ok to fight my way down this column or do I have to add another card to it before setting off ?

Does the game also end when the draw deck of Legionnaires is exhausted or do we keep fighting until we get all the feasts ?

When can I throw away a card to look at the end card in the row ? Any time or just before I attack it ? [Suppose I turn up a pirate as the third card - can I discard a card, to look at the end card, before choosing which card to bash the pirate with ?)

So many questions, by Toutatis

There is certainly a memory element to the game.
There are only six Romans in each of the five 'suits' - so if you know that your opponent has three and two have been discarded then the liklihood of running into another is lower. All stuff to take into consideration when you want to 'push your luck' but at the end of the day if you are card counting in a fun, light, game like this then you are probably over competative and better off with something of more substance.

I find this a neat and enjoyable little game.
But then I like Asterix.

I bought this game and another game for my girlfriend as a present for Valentines day, our anniverarsy and she was accepted to start training as a nurse.

So today we decided to give this game a go.

I can't read german as of yet so for the first time my girlfriend had to explain the game to me.

We didnt know what to expect from the game itself but we soon found out.

My girlfriend picked Asterix and I, Obelix.

The first game was close. Back and forth we would knock out romans.

The game came to a quick end. I got 3 tokens and my girlfriend 4.

The next game was not so close. I had terrible luck, every Roman card I would turn over I had no cards for. While on the other hand my Girlfriend would constantly just ravage through and take card after card.
The score 7 - 0 my girlfriends way.

Not much excitement to write about. But we found out what a great little filler this game is. 15 minutes for 2 learning games is very good. I will definatly play this game again. Im not usually a card game fan but the theme and the game have won me over.

Thread: A Great Simple Little Time Filler

So there are 2 of you that have to wait 5 or 10 minutes for something, maybe a game group to show up. What do you do?

The answer is simple you pull out your copy of Asterix and Obelix.

This game might not be the most complex or brain consuming, but it wasn't made for that purpose. This is a filler and a great filler at that.

The object of the game is simple beat up Romans and other things. You do this by playing a card from your hand of the same colour of that which is facing up. You get point counters at the end of a game for each certain group the players have the most victims, 1 for pirates, 1 for yellow, 1 for red etc etc. Which ever player has the most point counters at the end of the game wins.

Theres really nothing else to this game. Simple and fun for 2 players.

If your looking for a cimplex multiplayer game I would recommend looking somewhere else because this game is not one of those. But if your a fan of Asterix and Obelix or you want a quick easy filler then this is the game for you.

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. You can attack rows or columns. You can block rows or columns. You cannot attack a blocked row or column from either end, but you can pass through a blocked row when attacking a column and vice versa.

4. Left, right, top or bottom.

5. If pirates are tied, nobody gets it. If Romans are tied, whoever has the centurion (with a star) gets it. If neither player has the centurion nobody gets it.

It mostly works.

Question 2: If you fail to beat up on some Romans because you lack the right card, you have to discard those beating cards, don't you?

Question 2: If you use all your beating cards, you can shuffle them and start again, right?

Question 3: The description says you can block a row or column, How does blocking a column work? Can you attack rows or columns, or just rows?

Question 4: Must you always attack from the left, or may you choose either side to attack from?

Question 5: What happens in the case of ties for pirates and colours? The VP does not get awarded?

Thanks!
