Thread: Whoopies: I thought I was buying a kid's game!

I bought Whoopies thinking that it would be great for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. In fact I gave it to her as a Christmas present. I, however, am the one who is addicted to it.

The components: 5 little stuffed animals (Whoopies) of differing colors of body and hair are the main components to the game. Their tails are very long with a wooden ball on one end and a breakaway center section so that the Whoopies are not damaged in the chaos that ensues. There are also a wooden die, stickers to place on the 6 sides of the die, and 20 plastic gems. The components are remarkably well made and have stood up to multiple rough plays.

The rules are very simplistic: Roll the die, identify a Whoopie, grab it by the end of the tail and get a gem. Whomever meets the required gem amount first wins. A variant in the rules requires that each player start with a certain amount of gems and when a player grabs the correct Whoopie they steal a gem from someone else, the game ending when someone has no gems left. If the correct Whoopie is not grabbed or is grabbed incorrectly then 2 gems are lost.

The 6 sides of the die essentially make you pick a certain Whoopie. One side doubles the points for catching that Whoopie, one side identifies the only Whoopie to be left behind.

The game play: The game is about quick observation and quick grabs. It has a very similar feel to Jungle Speed but with obstacles to grab the totem. It is not to be played with children and adults. One or the other, not both.

Note: make sure everyone in the group has trimmed nails and removes any jewelry from the fingers. Ferti will not be responsible for anyone who is maimed for life due to playing this game otherwise! (That was my disclaimer not Ferti's.)

This is one of the best party games I have ever played. The mad grabs and the ensuing laughter are more than any game I have experienced. You don't need to know any random trivia to play it, you don't have to draw, act or sing. If you enjoyed mazes or identify which string goes to which kite activities as a kid, grow up and get Whoopies.

Note #2: The green Whoopie is the cutest.

Curtis
