Thread: Re: How does this compare to Here I Stand?

I find playing the Protestants and Papacy in Here I Stand pretty interesting. I think any game set in this period which combines the religous factions with the various monarchies is going to have a problem in that the Protestants and Papacy are weak militarily: the big military decisions are elsewhere.

How does AMF handle the religous struggle?

Thread: Re: How does this compare to Here I Stand?

Can't say I've played Here I Stand, but AMF I have. It has its flaws, chiefly, I feel, balance. The Protestants/Palatinate (sorry, it has been a long time and I forget now exactly what that player is called) have a hard time establishing themselves. I'd anticipate that all the nice things about AMF are present in HIS, so if you have HIS there seems little point in buying AMF.

Thread: How does this compare to Here I Stand?

Wondering if anyone would care to compare A Mighty Fortress to Here I Stand. I'm particularly interested to hear if playing the Protestants and the Papacy in this game might be more interesting than in Here I Stand. Decision Games has put A Mighty Fortress on their pledge list, so the game might get reprinted (and upgraded).

Thread: The Divorce Question

I think there's a loophole in the rules. What if the English player is converted to Lutheranism before he makes the request for the Divorce? Since he is no longer a Catholic country, England is not eligible for excommunication. Does he ask for the Divorce or can that be freely ignored as the Pope is no longer the sole authority for religion in England as a result of a conversion to Lutheranism?

And to offest the victory point loss, the English player then is converted back to Catholicism after 1540 when the Jesuits are available?

This seems like a bit of a free pass to get around this sticky issue.

This has been a tough game to get a hold of. I've seen it go in excess of $90 on EBay recently (I lost an auction for it today, the final price was 62GBP!)
