Thread: Re: British AND German ground units in the same hex?

Roel,

It might look like all water on the simplified weather map cards. But there *is* land in both those hexes on both sides of the channel. You might want to refresh your memory by looking at the game board.

Andrzej,

No, not really. The designer states in that thread German fighters can ditch on the right hand land portion of hex 24. And there's no mention at all in that thread about hex 31.

Note: the designer/publisher have no problems with putting German ground units in hex 4, which is about 90% water. The thin sliver of land on the right side seems to be sufficient for any number of ground units.

I think in future this question will be of even more importance once the Baby Blitz expansion comes out in November 2008.

I think that is 'sea' :) So both may not placed in that hex.

Thread: British AND German ground units in the same hex?

I just spent an hour reading most of these rule question posts. So I hope this hasn't been asked before. And it might be more appropriate in the applicable mini-expansion's area. But from other questions this seems to be the place people are placing this type of query.

If you are using the British anti-aircraft gun and the British search light, can both they and German ground defense units be placed in hexes 24 and 31? I ask because those hexes have bits of Britain on one side and bits of France on the other (and the Channel in the middle).

weesp wrote:
masdero wrote:
No circling.
At the beginning of its turn, the fighter is already in the same hex with a high-altitude Mosquito. All the fighter does, is landing.

High altitude - no points. Low altitude 1VP to the Brits.

This contradicts Friedemann's earlier ruling in another thread (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/1680310#1680310):

depedro wrote:
4) A fighter already in the same hex as the Mosquito lands without moving.
first combat VP's for beeing in the same hex like the mossie after the Mossies move, + one VP for blocking,

Thread: Re: Mosquitos at low alititude to blockade German airports?

I am just now getting into this game after playing it for the first time at Origins last week. It looks like this change never made it into the FAQ. Was it discarded, or does the Mossie indeed have to be at low altitude to gain the VP for a German fighter taking off or landing?
Thread: Re: Solitaire Duel in the Dark - A Review

Hate to be the Negative Nellie here, but my first try at the solitaire version of this game was a real snooze-fest.

You're right about one thing, though--the well-written rulebook made the game very easy to learn quickly. I even got all the rules right on my first try. Unfortunately, that eliminated the excuse I was hoping to have for the dull game I played.

Because I always knew where the 'skeeters were going to be, they were outrageously easy for my fighters to avoid. Once I got behind the Mosquitoes, I was just tagging along and pounding the bombers on every turn. I managed my fighters so that there were always a couple of them hammering away while the other two refueled.

To make matters worse, the Brits chose a wimpy, low-value target whose point value didn't even begin to cancel out the beating their bombers had been taking all game long.

I got so far ahead with the Germans that my score was off the scale. It was 33 points by game's end....

I'm not giving up on the game as a 2-player contest, though. I'll try that out someday soon. It looks like fun as a 2-player game, but the solitaire version leaves WAY too much to be desired.
