Thread: What font is that?

Does anyone know what font is used on the character cards?

(pic is Scott Roberts'. he changed the figure, but the text is the same)

I have a few character cards I'd like to make, and it would be nice if the font was the same, but I'm not sure which one to use.

-Aaron

Thread: Re: New Characters for 4th Edition

The site doesn't exist anymore, since the game was taken over by FFG.

[-]Anyone know if these extra characters are still available somewhere?[/-]

They have them over at Talisman Island, along with other fan-made add-ons:
http://www.talismanisland.com/expansions.htm

Thread: Mixed Fortunes

First, some background info. This was meant to be a looooong story, which I partially wrote down in last October. I wrote down the following for each turn:

- move roll
- where move ended
- encounter
- possible extras

Idea was to have a few lines for each turn. Some took more thinking than others, and few wanted to go on for 7+ lines. Checked what I'd written, seems I have only written down 5 of 76 turns. Maybe I'll get around to finishing it one day.

Anyhoo, here's the short version of what happened:

Druid, Wizard and Ghoul duke it out for the trophy called Crown of Command:

Right off the bat, both the Druid and Ghoul end up missing a turn (Marsh and lost in Forest). Wizard meanwhile casts a Divination (Evil Darkness, Lion, Boar x2, Maze). Druid kills a boar, while Wizard has a Stand-off with the Lion and Ghoul with the Boar in the Ruins. Wizard finds some Gold while Ghoul picks up a Guide. Druid gets lucky and gets a free ferry ride to the Temple, where upon praying, he is gifted a Talisman! Ghoul finds Solomon's Crown, but can't enjoy it too long, as the Wizard, who is on a roll (Runesword, Pixie, Mule) meets him in the Tavern and beats in combat, taking the crown.

Druid is having things his own way in the Middle Region, finding Gold and the Magic Stream at the Oasis. In the end, he drinks thrice from the Stream, while also getting Gnome, Armour and Princess to his fold. Wizard's luck turns as he meets a Dragon (evaded by Invisibility), loses a turn in the Graveyard and then gets cursed by the Hag (bye-bye, Pixie and Mule). To add insult to injury, the Mystic tells him he's Good, so he loses the Runesword (but gets rid of Hag). By this time Druid is Evil, having come across a Phantom. Ghoul isn't having much luck at all, getting drunk in the Tavern and getting Raidered out of his 2 Gold.

The now Good Wizard has better luck, finding the Ring and Holy Lance. Yet he keeps being completely ignored (3x in Chapel, 1x by Mystic). Luck with the Adventure deck continues though, Talisman, Mage (1 Spell/ visit to Good chars) and Unicorn are drawn by him, while Druid mainly gets gold (5 in total) and Ghoul meets a Demon, gets Imped to the Forest and finally picks up the Runesword + Spell in the Village.

Druid heads to the Inner Region first, with 8 Str and 6 Craft (not too high, but Wizard is getting all the good stuff and is looking like a threat). Quaffing a Potion of Strength helps him through the Crypt, but he gets delayed while Dicing with Death (a loss and draw) before finally moving on. Werewolf is only at 6, but still manages a standoff. Finally, after making the Crown of Command, he is 1 for 4 with the Command spell before the Wizard arrives.

Speaking of the Wizard, even with the Gnome (Mesmerised from the Druid early on), he fails to breach the Mines on the first attempt, but is luckily only thrown to the Plain of Peril. 2nd attempt at the Mines is better and the Gnome is soon fed to the Vampire. Pitfiends merely manage 1 standoff, but he still defeats them (was at 7 Str).

Ghoul is abusing the Temple to the max, getting 3 Spells, 1 Craft and 1 Str (total gains for Ghoul from Temple: 5 Spells, 4 Str, 1 Craft, 1 Life), while killing enemies with the Runesword. Ghoul ends up with 8 Str, 8 Craft (Acquisitioned Crown back from Wizard), but plays no part in the final outcome. He just couldn't get a Talisman. Instead, the winner will be decided in the CoC battle between Evil Druid and Good Wizard (both with 3 Lives).

Wizard arrives at CoC and immediately goes in for a Psychic confrontation., Druid evades through Immobility. Druid's own attack ends in a standoff (though Wizard did pay his last Gold for the Merc). Wizard's Psychic takes a 1 Life from Druid. Next turn, Druid finally wins, taking the Ring from the Wizard, leaving them both at 7 Craft. But Wizard still beats him, taking another Life. 3rd turn, Druid's win is nullified by Wizard's Shield, while the Psychic battle ends in a standoff. 4th turn, Druid wins and Shield fails, Wizard loses 1 Life. But it's all for naught, as the Wizard's Psychic dominance (luck?) brings down the Druid. Game over.

Well, not just yet. Ghoul is making him work for it, thanks to the Runesword, not to mention the Crown being quite possibly a replica, it certainly doesn't seem to work. Ghoul remains on the Middle Region, but it still takes another 25 turns for the Wizard to kill the Ghoul. Nothing works right. Random spell (by the Wizard) gives the Ghoul +1 Life, he finds the Pool of Life, one of the Spells from the Temple is Healing. All in all, the Wizard succeeds in 13 of 25 Command spells before the Ghoul finally dies. If not for the Vortex that sucked away the Ghoul's 2 Counterspells, he might've held on longer.

Thread: Re: FFG to Produce an "Upgrade Kit" and Revised Edition of Talisman 4th Edition.

I like the cardboard characters quite a bit and prefer them over minis. I like this kind of art, which is nicely done.

Ditto!!!! That's why I just bought a copy from Thought Hammer, on sale for $25.00!!! Now I can add the miniatures if I want, but still have the option of using the "card" miniatures.

Gopher of Pern wrote:
We sorta made up rules as we went along. We weren't sure of the exact rules, so as soon as my warrior was heading backwards we made a rule that allowed him to encounter characters. We are still learning the game, and made some rules up as we went along.

Heading back out of the inner region, you don't encounter the spaces either.
As the Troll, I had just headed to the WereWolf and had no worries about getting through it. Of course.. just as I moved into the space a Random Spell was cast upon me by the Prohpetess and Iwas turned into a Toad. 1 str toad vs a 7 str werewolf. Took me down to 1 life. I headed back along the path and the Prophetess took the crown. I turned back into the Troll and was going to head back, get my stuff and kick the Prophetess out. Too back the Crown killed me before I got there.

Grrr.....

I am thinking of maybe buying the 4th via the internet…

Yes, I still play Talisman from time to time... along with a lot of other games. :) (If you check the session reports for Talisman - 1e/2e & 4e, you'll find a few from me).

I have both the 1st edition and the 4th edition. The differences in rules and cards are very minor between the two, basically they are the same game (unlike 3rd edition, which is quite different and uses a lot of plastic pieces). The difference in presentation is substantial - the 4th edition has superior card stock and art (IMO).

4th edition will soon (don't ask me when!) be re-released by Fantasy Flight Games, and will have plastic pieces and some errors in the cards corrected. Sometime after that, expansions will come, we hope!

Cheers,
Merric
