Thread: With a Twist

My wife and I had another couple over last night to play some games, have some food and visit. As usual, we like to play at least one trivia game, which is typically Trivial Pursuit. We have four versions of Trivial Pursuit and only Genus V gets played, so it was decided to mix in all versions (Genus, Genus II and Baby Boomer). Couples teamed up, and two questions were asked at each space: one from Genus V and one from the other sets (rotated each time). If the team could answer one of the two questions correctly, then they proceed!

My wife and I were able to get out to a very quick start by landing on several pies and getting reasonable questions. We got to six pies while the other couple had three, and finished it up quickly after.

If you have old versions sitting around that you can't imagine you'll play again by themselves, mix them in with your current favourite edition!

Thread: Trivial Pursuit Genus 5

First off, let me begin by saying that I really enjoy Trivial Pursuit. It is a good way of finding out what you know and do not know. This edition of TP is good because it has a variety of topics like the other Genus editions. Sometimes the subject specific versions of the game are either too hard or too easy depending on who is playing.

This version is a no frills straight up TP. The board redesign is kind of unnessicary but it is purly cosmetic and does not affect gameplay. I just don't really care for pop clip art all over my gameboard.

Also I believe the categories have been somewhat changed from back in the other genus editions. Categories include People & Places, Arts & Entertainment, History, Science & Nature, Sports & Leisure, and Wild Card. Missing are the geography and Art & Literature and those are my two favorite categories from the older games. The Wild Card category is nice though, so I guess I could let that slide except for the fact that the new sports questions are so specific that green is always my last pie piece and it will always be the category that is picked for me in the hub.

The only other real gripe that I have found in this game is that some of the qestions have incorrect answers. Example being "Whose 1998 death inspired the poem:"she touched our hearts, filled a void / her sudden death has left us quite annoyed"?" The answer is Princess Diana, which my group almost said but they stated that Diana did not die in 1998 so it could not be her. She died August 31, 1997 but the card said 1998.

There was one other instance of a wrong answer but i cannot remember exactly what it was.

All in all, I like this version of the game and it is a worthy edition to own and play. I would give it an 8 out of 10.
