Thread: Teams

Chairs with a large group doesn't work with individuals playing for each other. The tension is better when played with teams of 2 or 3. Break-up a large group into 2 or 3 teams. For example, with 6 players, every other player is on the same team. With 9, every 3rd person is on the same team. Team game should encourage trash talking and such. Pre-select the number of rounds and the team with the lowest score wins.

Thread: Community Chairs

We played a variant to the rules posted herewith. All the chairs are kept as one community pool for the active player to choose.

Determine a start player and remember who started the game.

Pick a chair and place (just as per original rules). Keep going until a player creates a fall. This ends one round of play.

Count the number of chairs fallen, including the one a player may still have in their hand. (We played where you could ONLY physically touch the chair you are using/placing and you can use it to move other chairs.) If all the chairs fall except the first/base chair, then that original chair is also determined as "fallen" and is counted as a point (if you make the whole stack fall, all the chairs are points). The number of chairs fallen is the number points you receive.

Lowest score wins. The game ends when a finite number of points has been breached (we played until someone hit 20+). Once someone has done that, you finish out the round so that everyone has equal # of start turns. Lowest score wins. We didn't need a tie breaker but so I guess ties are possible since it is a silly fun, dexterity game after all...

Thread: Chairs - a game about stacking chairs

Chairs is a stacking dexterity game, along the lines of Stacrobats, Arbos, Bausac, Blockhead, and others that challenge the players to continue building the stack until one of them loses by toppling it.

The game bits themselves are, unsurprisingly, chairs. Plastic, about 4 inches tall, in three colors and a mix of back, seat, and leg designs. (Solid, slotted, straight, squared, rounded, etc.)

The basic game is the same as most other stacking games, pick a piece, then try to add it to the stack without toppling it or knocking any loose.

Other variations come to mind, have your piece picked for you by your opponent, roll a die to decide how many pieces to place, each player takes all chairs of a specific color and tries to stack higher than the others, etc.

All in all there isn't much to it. In the end it is in fact just a box of bits to stack up.

If you are a fan of stacking games like these, then this might be an interesting variant. If you aren't, then this isn't going to change anything unless you are especially partial to chairs or want to re-live that restaurant closing job of your youth.
