Thread: Re: LNoE; My First Wins and Loses Sessions.

You definitely learned the right lessons. Liberal searching and spreading out your Heroes are generally the best ways of keeping the Zombie hordes divided and clumsily shuffling around. I think a Zombie players best tactics are to turn over Zombie cards as quickly as possible, keep Heroes on the move, and create Zombie death walls.

Nurse Becky is extremely useful if used in conjunction with Father Joseph. The duo can cancel Zombie Cards left and right. If you see that combo played, it usually results in a very frustrated Zombie player. :)

Mano a mano, Heroes actually have the better chance of "winning" a Fight. Something like over 50% Fend-off,

I'm a Zombie here too... left Hawaii at 8pm (Hawaii time) arrived at LAX 5am (Pacific time), didn't get any more than 1-2 hours of shut eye, but had to go straight to work...

I think that's half the point though. FFP found a mixture that allows for highly flexible yet detailed pieces. Usually it's one or the other in miniature gaming. With the LNoE pieces, you can accidentally step on a piece and not break a sweat because it will pop right back into it's original shape.

Anyhow, I'm always on the look out for other 28-29mm pieces that we can use in our game. Thanks!

Thread: Black Sheep variant

So after playing a game of LNoE and then watching Black Sheep the same night, I thought about my Target meeples that I got for Agricola and realized that I had the equipment for a variant and all I needed to do was come up with with the rules. For those of you who have seen the movie, these rules will makes more sense.

In this variant, all zombie sheep are spawned from the well in the center of the board. Zombie sheep are faster than humans so they can move 2 on each turn instead of 1. Zombie sheep are extremely flatulent, therefore any human with a card bearing a flame marker can kill them with any higher roll.

The game begins with one human zombie character representing the human who was responsible for the Zombie Sheep epidemic. For the humans to win, he must be killed. If he is alive after 15 turns, the Zombies win. Unlike other zombies, though, it takes two doubles rolls to defeat him. They must take place in the same turn.

Thread: Re: LNoE; My First Wins and Loses Sessions.
Yes, but I did play the Heroes seven times and the Zombies four times. It really gave me a feel for the game and how useful the Basic is to later scenarios. I learnrd a lot about the importance of searching and exchanging items with the rest of the Heroes (gives that co-operative feeling, when you are playing all four characters).
At first, I thought having a nurse around would be quite useful....do not think so now. She is a weak character, imho. The chance of getting a wound healed with a good card does not require the nurse.
However, I must say that being a Zombie is fun  Watching your opponent trying to get doubles and making a run as soon as the zombies spawn...great laughs. The last thing they should have done was to enter a buiding for safety :ninja:
The main issue I have is that it does seem that the Zombies have a better chance of winning and that can be a it of a spoiler. The Zombie cards are so much stronger than the Heroes deck and let us not forget, there can be a lot of zombies strewn on the board (however slow they move). Oooah, when the Zombies remove ten cards from the Heroes deck :shake: Its bad enough waiting for a weapon and then see ten cards thrown away
Believe it or not, I had five more sessions after my initial eleven DZD introduction to the game and ended up not winning once (twice with Heroes and three times as Zombies). So, in a way...yes, it sort of makes one wonder if rolling two dice as Zombies is helping them a lot at the end of their round because if they have a good roll they sure know how to spawn ! And as for the Heroes and rolling doubles :soblue:
Anyway, I really think I am ready to mix a few new characters with new scerarios (the expansion looks good)....and come this Friday, I will play that way.

Regards.

BTW: I went to sleep at around 7.00am :snore: I feel zombiefied

If a Hero dies before all of their Fights are complete, the remaining Zombies that Hero was supposed to Fight do not fight anyone (they spend the time feeding on the dead Hero).

Why part of mine didn't YOU understand

But then, I used the Hero who had a lucky break in getting a long range weapon to ward off and kill quite a number of zombies while the other heroes searched, grouped together and finished the spawning zombies off. Good win. Used this method for the two of the remaining games but was unlucky because the zombies turned ten Hero cards over from our deck on both occasions:angry: The zombies kept spawning with lucky dice rolls. However, the last two Hero game went very well and we spread out, searched and re-grouped,had the right weapons and saw the last of the Zombies off.
So, Heroes won 4 out of the 7 times they played.
Now, the zombies won all four of their games based, I believe, on their lucky dice rolls and spawning left, right and centre (well, not centre exactly ...buildings) and the Heroes did not seem to have planned their strategy very well as hardly any of them searched long enough ; they seemed to group together and tried to fight the living dead with the few weapons they found. No amount of Blessings helped the heroes, they were simply out-numbered.
All in all, I think that for a newcomer to this game, I learned that it is best to take the time to search and spread out, get the right weapons and try to keep the Zombies as far away as possible until the Heroes are ready to face their undead enemies.
Well, I can now go and have another two or three sessions knowing that the next time I play, I will do so with other scenarios and added characters from the expansion. Confidence comes with knowing the basics and I used Die Zombies Die scenario as the intro to this most enjoyable game.
BTW: The CD is a waste of time, it got on our nerves  We played Tublar Bells for a while !:laugh:

Holy cow, did you play the DZD! scenario 11 times in a row? In one sitting? The other scenarios or so much more interesting, IMO. We only played DZD! twice, and it was to teach newbies how to play... even then, they'd learn how to use Zombie Hunger to their advantage and camp their Zombies inside buildings all day to avoid being hunted down.

The CD was fun for a few giggles, but we threw it back in the box after the second game. Found music for the Resident Evil sound track, Michael Jackson's Thriller, and even Nine Inch Nails - Ghost Album to be more fitting at times. :)

Thread: Re: Reading the Rules and about to Start my First Game: Which Characters ?

Johnny is a straight-forward fighter. Give him a decent weapon and a good event card if you can swing it and he is usually good to go. You'll come to appreciate his wins on ties ability a great deal. Don't get too overconfident with him though, as he only has 2 hits.

Father Joseph is actually a very decent melee character, especially with some faith on him. His card canceling power can be extremely useful, and when teamed up with Becky, the duo can be almost game breakingly powerful

If the Barn is on the map, Jenny is a very wise pick. Even if it isn't she can be very useful. Just remember that luck can swing fast in this game , and, like Johnny, she can go from awesome to dead surprisingly fast.

If you feel like countering some of that luck a bit, try using Sally. She isn't exactly play and go like Johnny, as her Lucky ability requires a lot of dice rolling and attentio. With some fortuitous draws and the great equipment however, Sally can be one of the deadliest characters in the game.

Becky, as you mentioned, is a wonderful support character, but I have found her to be a bit of a liability when she tries to go out on her own and fight. Play her as a nurse, not an action hero.

Jake is very good at finding cards and is thus very good in scenarios where you need to find specific items. That said, he can get equipped with deadly weapons quite quickly as well and shouldn't be over looked as a decent, versatile character, both as a fighter and in a support capacity with his tendency to find useful events and healing supplies.

Billy is fast, and can be good at evading zombies when he is vulnerable, and being where he needs to be rather reliably. However, this kind of play is better suited to other scenarios. In this one, Billy is more vulnerable. Don't despair if you draw him randomly, Billy isn't useless, but I would let him sit this one out.

They don't move a space back.

Think of it, like you put them down for the moment and they need one turn to get up.

And i strongly suggest you read the FAQ version 3 before playing.
Thanks, Rick.

Sheriff Anderson is on my list....his gun will be helpful
I believe that when you search this is counted as a move. Fifteen moves only ....LOL that does sound scary :what:

Thinking of adding the nurse just in case of emergency. The other characters seem to be very similar, hence my question.

Also, if the rifle is not in the deck or turns up in the discard pile, it is taking a risk choosing a character who can make use of this weapon.

I must say, this game really does look great and I am really looking forward to a long night ahead :)

Hi Gordon -- since you'll probably be doing the killing scenario, I would recommend Sheriff Anderson just because he starts the game with a gun. That will help you learn the line of sight rules for guns. Anyone else with him will be fun. Just remember that you need to SEARCH to find weapons. You can't kill zombies without something that gives you more than 2 dice.

Have fun!

Thread: My favorite game does it again (and again, and again ...!)

After 30 plays, LNoE is still going strong here. Every time you play is a different adventure and tells a new, exciting story. It's long enough to be epic and short enough to play several times in a night. It's my favorite game by far, and also in the Top 3 of most of my friends. In fact, I used LNoE as a freakin' gateway game with my best man and now that's all he wants to play. To top it off, I'm bringing it to his bachelor party next month for some all-night gaming!

Flying Frog, keep up the wonderful work. And for the love of the Zombie Master, let's see a Scenario Booklet! You've had plenty of time to work on it and now we're clamoring for it!
Thread: Re: Idea for new hero - please comment and help design?

Perhaps the Movie Fan's ability could work for heroes in the same or adjacent space, but not for himself since he would, in fact, be a couch-potato. So, make it sort of like Amanda's ability. He's not powerful by himself, but works best when teamed up with others.

Name: Steve, The Horror Movie fan
Keywords: Male, Student, Strange
Ability 1: "Invaluable Knowlege!" - "During a Fight, any hero in the same or adjacent space may add or substract 1 from any one of their Fight Dice."
Ability 2: "Youth"
Wounds: 2
Quote: "I saw this in a movie once. Trust me."

Bio: Having spent the better part of his childhood watching monster movies while his mother worked long hours, Steve has never been more prepared for the horror which is about to be unleashed upon Woodinvale. He knows that the wisdom he's gained over the years is invaluable...if only he can find the right people to share it with.

What actor or person did you have in mind I could pop his face on to a card for you with name and final write up of abilities.
Just let me know unless you already have it planned out.

I thought with one zombie player he could discard & draw up to 2 cards. I don't have the rules in front of me to check though. I could be wrong.
