Thread: Re: I am confused be the rules. Breaking up stacks.

Striton wrote:
The point of Dipole is to keep as many of your pieces in play as long as humanly possible. Since stacks have to move their full distance, large stacks find themselves off the board very quickly. Splitting stacks is the only way to prolong your lifespan.

I actually reread the rules and it makes sense to me now. I was reading it with a Focus bias and didn't see that you were moving your pieces forward only (also diagonally forward), unless you capture, and you ended up staying on black. It is clear to me now actually.

This is a reasonable argument, but not rigorous enough to
be a proof. White's countermoves are not fully explored.
STEP COUNT

After eat E5-A5 eat the piece on d8(or pieces if white dont remove any). Then start to eat a b8 in the next move d8-b8 (if he do the error of eat your alone piece of d8 after this, eat him agaim doing b8-d8). After this start to move slowly to numer 1 colum. You have go bacward and have more time to move. Also, your opponent will finish faster because he will have beetwen 2 or 4 pieces less for play (depends of his moves).

minimum two pieces eaten (less moves to opponent) + moves a5-d8, d8-b8, c8-c7, b8-c7, b8-c7 again, c7-b6 three times and b6-a5 three times, do 13 moves more of advantatge

PIECE COUNT

You can put one more white piece in b8, d8, f8, h8. After that, put 4 more pieces on f8. (total eight pieces more).

Then do a similar tactic that the one is up. After E5-A5, eat the two pieces (or the three if you oponnet quit from another place) of d8 ( A5-d8). After this, send your pieces again to A5, d8-A5. After this a5- c3 two times, after this, c3-d2, c3-b2, c3-d2 again, c3-b2 again, b2-a1 twice, d2-c1 twice, and later quit pieces (4 moves more), total 15 moves. Your opponent have after a5-d8 only have between 14 and 13 pieces. You win, minimum for 2 moves.

Pensator - Mindsama

PD: sorry for my english

Thread: Dipole "win from behind" challenge

I'm offering Geek Gold for improved solutions to this puzzle.

"what is the greatest disadvantage from which it is still possible
to force a win"

I'm proposing two different metrics

1) Piece count. Ie; one player has more checkers than the other.
The theoretical maximum piece deficit is 11

2) Step count. Step count is the maximum number of moves left
in the game (which would be reached if the player moved his chips
as slowly as possible toward the opposite edge). If there are no
captures, the player with the higher step count can win the game.

This image represents the starting point for the challenge. Black
is moving toward row 1, white moving toward row 8. Black can win
by E5-A5, then moving as slowly as possible toward the exit.

I'm offering a prize of 5 GG for each quantitative improvement in
this piece deficit of 8, and 1 GG for each step increase in the
step deficit of 4.

Fine print: The positions must be possible to reach in ordinary
play (not a big constraint) and you must show a convincing argument
that the losing side cannot avoid the loss.
