Thread: Re: Bridge Question

Land spaces can be occupied (by buildings, calpulli, or mexica) or empty, but they are still land spaces. When placing a bridge it must have land spaces at either end, nothing is said of whether they must be empty or may be occupied. The distinction between occupied and empty land spaces is made elsewhere in the rules (e.g. movement) so if it was relevant, I'm sure it would have been mentioned here.

Also, if you do assume that a space with a building is not a land space (as you eventually ruled) then many other rules become very unclear. For example, the founding of districts says:
A Calpulli tile is considered appropriate when its turquoise number exactly matches the number of land spaces in the built district.
So, do spaces with buildings on them no longer count when founding a district?

Thread: Re: Bridge Question

Returning the bridge to that location is permissible. A temple or calpulli {sp} tile does not stop it from being a land space. Land space is not the same as an empty space. The two entrance rule is just specifying that the entrances can not face a water space.

Thus, the current position and the position one space to the right are legal. However, the position two spaces to the left is illegal because one entrance will face a water space.

Thread: Re: Bridge Question

It's not possible for a bridge to have no entrances. By definition, a bridge has two entrances. They're printed on the tile.

The rule doesn't say that both entrances must lead to unoccupied land spaces, only that they must lead to land spaces. Land spaces continue to be land spaces when they contain buildings or calpulli tiles. As the next sentence in the rule makes clear, the distinction being made is between land spaces and water spaces.

The italicized part is what made us decide that I would not be allowed to move the bridge back to where it was in the picture.

Mexica Rules wrote:
Building a bridge costs 1 AP.
• A bridge may only be built on a canal tile.
• Each bridge has two entrances. Both entrances must lead to a land space. Thus, a bridge cannot be built next to a canal tile or the lake.
• Buildings, Calpulli tiles, and Mexica may be placed on the land spaces at the entrances to a bridge. In this way, access to the bridge may be temporarily or permanently blocked
• A bridge may not be placed next to another bridge. Thus, bridges may not be strung together to cross multiple canal tiles
• When there are no more bridges in the bridge supply, players may move unoccupied bridges from any canal tile to any place where a bridge may be legally built for 1 AP.

There's nothing in there prohibiting building a bridge with no entrance or exit.

Thread: Bridge Question

I recently purchased this game, and a situation arose that I'm not sure was addressed here. I saw it asked, and answered two different ways so I was hoping for a final ruling.

3P game, The turn order is White, Orange, Yellow. I am Yellow. I have moved my Mexica into the 12 district to build. The following image shows how that looks.

The bridge was there first, followed by the white Temple across the canal. So here I stand.

The white player uses the last bridge on his turn.

According to the rules, when the bridge supply runs out, you can move bridges. Orange says he plans on moving the bridge so that I'll be stuck. White says that he thinks I'd be able to move a bridge back to that spot, but I said that I didn't think that would be the case. The bridge has to be built with two land spaces - does a space with a temple on it still qualify as a land space?

We ended up saying that we could not build bridges on spaces with a temple or calpulli on one side of the canal.

Were we correct?
