I'm sorry, didn't mean to imply that Stephenson's Rocket should be removed. I meant to suggest either this game should be removed or the alt name attributed to Stephenson's Rocket (i.e., "Great American Railroad".

Actually, I'd prefer the later. Remove the alt name from the other game entry. It's just confusing.

Now, we just need to convince someone to do it. I nominate Jeff as this is his thread.

They are different games with different maps and different rules -- no different than the Ticket to Ride series having their own listings.

I think your right.. one should be removed, but I'm guessing every time someone sees either this game or the alt name recommended for removal it get's submitted again. You should submit a correction for alt title so they match.

Maybe at least until it's decided maybe the "alt name" on Stephenson's Rocket entry can be removed? It's just a little confusing The "alt name" isn't even correct... it's just "Great American Railroad" and leaves off "Game" which is actually part of the game's name (like is is on this entry).

Just searched for "Great American Railroad" and not only did this entry show up, but so did Stephenson's Rocket with the name of this new reprint as an alternative name.

Either this entry should be merged... or the alt name on Stephenson's Rocket should be removed....

I think this thread was supposed to be about The Great American Railroad Game, not a discussion of which is the best rummy variant. I need a place to gripe about Great American!

Why the long delay?? I would like to think the game saw a round of development, and Knizia wanted a more perfect reflection of the 19 C. American economy. If the game incorporates East Coast capital, Pennsylvania coal mines, and Ohio Valley farming, it would certainly be worth the wait.

Most people prefer Wyatt Earp with three, William. I wasn't counting it as part of the MR series in my comment, but it's clearly a member of the same family. I personally don't care for the game, because of the bullet hole mechanic, but it's still a very popular game and the best of the expanded series for three. Until now.

Agreed, yay. But since I first played the finished game with Mike Fitz almost five years ago, my thinking is more "It's about time!".

Still, it should be worth the wait. It's as good as any of the other Mystery Rummy games (high praise from me) and is really the first game of the series to play well with three (it's also excellent for two).

So YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OK, this is getting offtopic but...I always heard that Wyatt Earp was very good with three?

Or are you not counting that as a member of the series?

I have Wyatt Earp, but have only gotten one play because my wife and I usually play these when it's just us. Our JTR deck is getting so worn that some cards are pretty badly marked...soon I'll have to scour ebay for a replacement.

I had preordered this game from my local game store, expecting it out in November, 2007... but then the game store told me it probably wasn't going to be out until December, then I noticed the game was no longer listed on the Rio Grande Games website, and the year listed on BGG now says 2008, so I sent email to the contact address on the RGG website and just got the response:

The artist ... is now working on it again. I expect it in the spring. Sorry for the delay.

I am aching to get this game!

Indeed. Given that the rider, "from the original designer" has not been mentioned, I can only assume that the new rules are not from RK; giving one even more reason to doubt.
